It just so happens that I, Catherine, have had many experiences with shadow people. Most of the stories that are on this site are like mine with the loud stereos turning on out of the blue, TVs doing the same, and the black figures in the middle of nowhere then disappear when they are seen. But mine comes with a slight twist. I have been seeing shadow people for about 5 years now and it seems that every year it gets worse but I try to block it out and pretend that nothing has changed. That's a little harder to do now because these "shadow people," more like demons, have been able to get into my dreams lately. I will have a dream, more like a nightmare, where I am doing something with friends or family members then I get into a fatal accident of some sort:

I'm white water rafting with friends and we come upon these fish that talk. (Crazy I know) They ask if we would like to race them. So my friends and I begin to race, faster and faster we go not exactly where the next turn lies. We come up to a rock and I fly out of the boat like a rag doll. My skull gets cracked open and I see a bright white light...

Then I wake up. Not only do I wake up but I wake up with a pounding headache, one unlike any other headache I've ever had. Standing around my bed when I wake up are 3 tall dark shadow figures that seem to gain pleasure from my pain. Other times I have had similar dreams and I wake up to 3 shadow figures that disappear once they've been seen. I have come to the conclusion that they feed off of hate, guilt, fear, and lies.

Sometimes I will have these feelings around my house that a certain room should not be walked into. Other times I will be walking around my house and I will walk through very cold spots and have bad thoughts. Thoughts of hate or thoughts that I shouldn't be here nor anywhere. Times have been hard and times have been scary but I've found friends that have helped me through those times. One has even seen shadow people as well, and showed me this site. That's my story. If you have any pieces of advice I would be grateful!

I have one for your website. Here is a sketch of the entity we have encountered. It seems to have attached itself to my daughter. She has been seeing it in her room since she was small. It would come out of a shadowy corner or her closet and stay in her room for hours, checking out her toys and things. She is now 20. I have seen it, my husband and son.plegalssmall

It comes at night - usually 1-3:30 a.m. It sometimes touches you or comes right up to your face. It crouches down and runs quickly to and fro, leaving a stream behind it.

My daughter sees it frequently. It whispers to her but she cannot make out what it is saying. She freezes and is unable to move. She said it feels like there are cobwebs on her face. It often comes right up to her face and she feels it breathing on her. It has pulled her hair, legs and her blankets. It is terrifying to say the least. It has also followed her to friends' homes. Some of their parents have mistaken it for an intruder. So other adults have seen this as well.

My son feels it tapping him on the head and both of them have seen it running in the hallway between their bedrooms. They shut their doors at night but it still gets in their rooms.

My two cats see it all the time not just at night. I can see the cats staring at something but I do not see it. Then, once nightfall comes, I do. We believe it to be malevolent and to bring bad things, luck and cause disruption in the family. If anyone can tell me what this is, I would appreciate it. Terrified!!!

Thanks.

I don't really know where else to turn with this. I found your site on the internet and thought I'd relate my experience. My grandmother was always very superstitious. I remember during overnight visits, I'd sleep in the spare bedroom in the attic where she kept her library and find books on the supernatural and the occult. I was young, eight years old or so, when I saw my first shadow... out of the corner of my eye, moving up the wall. I turned and it was gone. I wrote it off as being spooked by my surroundings. "Quit reading the scary books before bed!" Right?

My grandmother passed away days after my sixteenth birthday and my first car accident. By all rights I should've been killed, but I walked away without a scratch. I remember visiting her after my accident and her final goodbye before she passed. The house always seemed to be charged... some kind of energy. Something I couldn't put my finger on. But it was with mixed feelings when we left that I knew I'd never see the house again.

From that time on I've seen the shadows. Sometimes smaller, like the size of a dinner plate, traveling along the periphery of my vision, and then disappearing when I look. Sometimes they're larger, the size of a 12-year old boy, but when I look, nothing. I've tried to write it off but have never been able. I thought it might even be something wrong with my vision and so I visited an optometrist. When I mentioned it, he replied, "Well, we all see floaters sometimes." This really didn't help to dispel my concern.

I still see them. Sometimes with more regularity it seems. I'd like to know more. What are they? What does it mean? In the end, I'm left with more questions than answers.

I have been seeing shadow people for many years, but recently I see them more clearly and for longer periods of time. They are usually in the living room; though i sometimes see them move around the cars in the driveway. My whole family has seen them; my husband, son and daughter-in-law. They are black shadows of people who move about the house and run away when encountered. They seem harmless. They are just there. I don't think they are ghosts, because most people can't see ghosts. I know a lots of people who see them and they have no psychic abilities or interest.

After discovering your website and reading other people's experiences with these bizarre shadow people phenomena and after speaking to my wife about it at great length, I decided to share what I have seen. I can assure you, I am not disturbed easily by anything. I feel that I am a fairly open minded individual but grounded in reality. Here's where my world of reality turned upside down.

Between the years of 1997-1999 I have witnessed (invariably) something that I was not prepared for. In the condominium where I lived (which use to be an elementary school for about a hundred years) I witnessed something that defied belief. When I would prepare for sleep, I would get my favorite book out, and read in bed with my one bedside lamp on and with the television off. Off to the side of my peripheral vision, I would see something moving in the corner of the ceiling, so I would then put the book down and look towards the area of movement. Unbelievably, there was a black, misty cloud moving up the side of a door frame to the bathroom and into the corner like a mist being guiding in an unusual pattern. The weird part was it didn't go away, it just kept moving up and around the ceiling in a strange and deliberate pattern, like it was under intelligent control.

The first time I saw this, I wanted to scream out to my wife who was downstairs but I was so nervous; I didn't want to frighten her about it. I would rub my eyes and try to convince myself that it was just some kind of tired hallucination, but then again and again this moving, twisting, black mist would climb around the corners, the walls, and actually crawl across the ceiling.

I think throughout a two year period, I have witnessed this phenomenon 8 distinct times. I have to admit, I now view the world with much more openness to the strange and unknown factors that surely surround us. I never ever felt in danger by what i was witnessing, just a little nervous and very curious to what it was.

Sincerely,

Doug in St. Louis, Missouri.

We moved to New Orleans from Houma, La. when I was 11yrs old. 'We' being, my parents, two older brothers, my twin sister and myself.

We rented half of a very new (maybe 5 yr old) home in a subdivision called Lakeview. Entering the house, you would first pass through the kitchen/dining room into the living room which opened onto an inside patio. There was a long hallway that "L'd" with two bedrooms, the first being shared by my sister and myself and the bedroom at the end of the hall being shared by my two brothers. My parent's room was off of the living room.

I would see, well, shadow people in 40's-50's dress walking with brief cases, the men wearing hats (I do not remember many females). It appeared that they were on a very busy street similar to Canal Street in N.O.

Once I opened my eyes in the middle of the night and saw a young woman, with long hair, standing at the end of my bed. There was a bathroom directly across the hall from my bedroom and I would pretty regularly see a cat in the bathroom. He would see me also and rub up against the door frame with his back and tail arched high, as they do when they recognize a person. I never really was frightened by this, and never said anything to any of my family.

We moved back to Houma 2yrs later, and while hanging out with friends in our front yard, we started talking about ghosts and such. One of my brothers began speaking about the "shadow people" he used to see at the house in N.O.. I've got to tell you, that I literally jumped on him and was yelling and hitting him. I could not believe what he was saying, since I truly believed that what I had seen was my imagination.

Exploring our mutual experiences we learned that not only had we seen the same people, but my brother also used to see a little boy playing with a ball on the wall across from his bed. We were not ever allowed in the boys' room on threat of death, so I could not have seen this. I have wondered if anyone else that lived in that house, before or after us, had similar events happen. I have not seen any "shadow people" since moving from that house.

That is my story.

I have been searching for so long for someone who can explain so many odd things that have happened to me. I have to be careful who I discuss these kinds of things with, or they might just think you are crazy, or seeking attention. There are two separate events I would like to share with you.

Ever since I was very young, I have had seen many shadow people, and many strange things happen to me. So I spent the majority of my life sleeping with the lights on.

One night, I went to turn the lights off and crawl into bed. I was 16 and figured I was too old to be so silly. Unfortunately, when I crawled into bed I looked to the right of me and standing by my bed was the silhouette of a man. I saw him perfect even with the light streaming in from the window behind him (a streetlamp). He didn't move, and I was paralyzed with fear and screamed, and he still didn't move. I ran to turn the lights on. Since then, he has never showed his whole figure clearly to me.

The second event was when I was nineteen and brought home a young man I was dating. He went to kiss me and this shadowy hand came between us and pushed the guy away from me. LOL Well, the guy I was dating ran from the house and our relationship ended because he swore I was surrounded by evil.

There are so many more stories I could tell you but I don't want to take up your time. I just need help to know who, what, how and why. Thanks for your time.

Sincerely, Confused

Annette

I was visiting your site today and just wanted to say it gave me such relief to know that I was not the only person experiencing this kind of paranormal or whatever it is that is going on with me. I too have a story to tell.

I had just got home from work and entered a dark apartment. I was heading for the light switch but the stuff I was holding in my hands was slipping, so I decided to set the stuff down before I turned on the light. I turned around to do just that when, right there behind me,.I mean, right behind me, was this tall shadow of a man. (around 6 to 7 ft tall.) I jumped, screamed, and dropped everything I was holding because I thought someone had broken into my apartment. The feeling I got was like when you come around a corner and bump into someone unexpectedly, well that was what it was like for me.

This person, thing, ghost, whatever it was. stood so tall, it was like I was looking at its chest, and than had to look up to see a face but it did not have one. It was just all shadow. An outline if you will, of a man.

For a moment I felt frozen, but when that feeling passed, I quickly turned back to switch the lights on. To my surprise it was gone. Nothing there but me, my fish and the mess I dropped on the floor.

I still don't know what it was that I experienced that night but what I do know is that something or someone is with me, and I see it everyday now. I don't get the feeling of fear from this thing anymore; I get the feeling of being protected, like something or someone is watching over me. It even comes to work with me. At first it seemed strange and I thought I was losing my mind but now after some research on the web and reading other stories, I know that I'm not losing my mind and I really do have a spirit that is with me now. Or maybe it has always been with me, it just never showed itself until now.

I have a lot of questions and no answers but what I want to know the most is why me and who is it that has become a daily part of my life.

Let me tell you about my experience with shadow folk.

I was sitting upstairs in my parent's pub when I was about 17 yrs old, just minding my own business watching TV when I felt myself being watched. As I felt this, our dog, who was lying next to me, stood up and started growling. It was then I noticed what could only be described as a man shape, cut out of space. What I mean by this is: that it was perfectly human shaped, but without features... very male and muscular. Just a black shape of a man, but not dark with shadow or unwell lit. Where there should have been detail, there was just blackness like a black hole.

It was standing in the door frame when I challenged it by saying in a loud voice, "Who's there?" It took a startled step backwards in a kind of fight or flee stance and then fled. It was very fast and though I was only a few feet away from it and the corridor from which it fled, by the time I reached the doorway and looked, it was gone. Until quite recently, I did not know what it was or even if I actually saw it, but then I heard about shadow folk and checked out this site. So here is my story, and to all those who doubt me I say: I do not know what it was, but we need to find out, as it is very weird indeed. Also, I did not feel it was evil, just curious. Thank you for listening.

Michael

I live in a big old house that has been converted to 4 apartments. I've lived there for almost 10 years and nothing out of the ordinary happened until a woman & her 3 kids moved in.
I started waking up & seeing a tall shadow with a trench coat & hat. At first I thought I was dreaming, but then I noticed my dog was also watching it. She didn't act scared, afraid, or anything... just very alert. The shadow would usually disappear thru the wall to where the woman lived.

I was going crazy. I didn't believe in anything "paranormal," but I knew I wasn't dreaming either. Every time this shadow came into my apartment, I would wake up, just sit in bed & watch it. The ultimate punishment for me is being awakened. I have a hard time going back to sleep.

The new neighbor was a real party animal & seriously involved in drugs. After about a month, she split & her aging mom moved in to take care of the kids. After the drug addict left, everything went back to normal. No sightings, everything ceased.

After 2 months of normalcy, the shadow man started reappearing. Sure enough, party queen was back, hiding out in the basement because the police were looking for her. Finally, they announced they were moving out. When the woman's elderly mother was outside, I went up & started talking to her. I got her talking about her daughter. The one thing that still bothers me is her cryptic comment, "Everybody thinks it's the drugs that's messed her up & they're dead wrong." Before I could get her to expand on that, another neighbor came over & the subject was dropped. Then she left.

Everything is back to normal now. I have no idea what the hell that was, or how this messed up drug addict was connected.

My daughter, at age 11 or 12, saw shadow people watching from the doorway of her bedroom. She said it looked like two little girls--one about 12 and one smaller. They were solid black. She just laid there watching them watch her and my youngest son.

Years later, when my youngest son was about 15 and spending the night at his dad's, he saw a shadow man standing in the doorway observing him. My son thought it was his dad, and so called out "Dad?" With that, the shadow man's posture straightened, as if surprised that he could be seen, turned and ran down the hallway. My son got up and chased after him, thinking perhaps he was an intruder--but the figure had vanished without a sound.

My son and daughter are now 22 and 29, and only a year or so ago, found out that the other had seen these beings. Of course no one wants to mention this stuff because you feel like a nut case for having seen it in the first place.

Last year, from the corner of my eye as I sat at my computer, I saw a head shape as if peaking from behind the pillow on my bed. As I turned my glance directly at it to disprove to myself that there was anything there, I watched it slip slowly behind my pillow and it was gone. I was eventually able to get up and pull apart my bedding hoping to find some explanation, but there was nothing out of the ordinary--other than my haunting realization that these shadow folk are here...and that's creepy.

Of course I was immediately curious to see if there was anything online about this phenomena. I was astounded to put in a phrase like "shadow people" (which is the only description I could figure) and was flabbergasted at the number of reports that resulted.

Here's a creepier thought. What if the ones we see aren't the only ones there are. That is, what if it's a flaw that we can see some, that's why they're surprised when they realize we see them, and they run away. This would mean, if the rest are invisible, that we could be surrounded or watched all the time. Creepy. (I may never sleep again-LOL)

Hi,

Back in 1979, my family and I had an experience with these entities. I had just returned from an Army tour in Germany. My wife had preceded me, and was renting a house in Spanaway, WA.

On the night I returned, she had to work, and I spent the night alone. Beyond the foot of our bed was a walk-in closet leading to the bathroom. In the early morning hours, I was awakened by a feeling that I wasn't alone. Looking around the room, I noticed in the closet, a human shape which was darker than the darkness of the closet. It appeared to be a man in a western-style hat, hands on his waist. No details were visible, just the silhouette.

I lay there, not believing my senses, and the more I watched the more sure I was that it was indeed there. Summoning my courage, I grabbed the hunting knife my wife kept at the bedside and lunged towards the entity, at which point it vanished. Although rattled, I put it all to jet lag and the stresses of processing out of Germany, and went back to sleep.

Some weeks later, my wife came to me tearfully, and said she wanted to move back to her hometown in California. She said she was afraid for the safety of our, then, 3-month-old son. We had planned the whole three years in Germany to return to Washington, so I was nonplussed and questioned her extensively as to her reasons. After a while, she told me, "I'm seeing people in this house who aren't there". Upon further interrogation, she said it was a black shape, in a cowboy hat and she had seen it several times since moving into the house. I had not told her of my own episode until after she told me about hers.

So, we decided to leave. She called her parents in California to ask if we could stay with them for a while. They had been up to see their new grandson a month before. When she asked, her mother said,"Thank God you are leaving that house. I kept seeing someone who wasn't there." Upon further questioning, she revealed that she had seen a black shape, man-like, that disappeared when it started to walk toward her. My father-in-law had also seen it, but they had not told each other. I don't know what it was, but as we were packing to leave, neighbors told us that we had lasted longer than most of the folks who rented the house before us; they all left within a month or two, and we lasted 6 months.

Best regards,

Since I was a young girl, I have seen the strange things, I guess these were the shadow people. Up until the time I was 14 though, I saw them as white ghosts. Afterwards, I only saw them as the shadows. I recently went to a group that is local to my home, who regularly discusses spiritual sightings. They were not as open minded about the shadow people. They stated that the energy I draw towards me makes them appear and that they questioned whether I conduct "black magick" in my home. One woman, who claimed to be able to see auras, stated that I had a black shadow across my face and that I draw negative/dark energy towards me. By the time I left, they had me wondering if my soul was in danger since 2-3 times a year, the shadow people appear in my home. I am not someone who practices black magick. Can you help me understand why I see them so regularly and why some people believe they are demons? They are quite frightening but I don't believe I "call" them. I obviously avoid this store these days.

It's funny, I've met a few other people who have seen the same thing (shadow people and all) but I never knew there were so many. Anyways, this is what I've experienced.

The first time I was probably around 6 or 7 years old. My room is next to the stairs and there's probably only 12 feet from the top of the stairs to the end of the hall. So my bed used to be situated where the head of my bed was next to the door so If i looked to my left and a little above me, I would see directly into the hallway.

One night I was finished reading by the hall light (it was always on and my door was always open, i was "afraid of the dark." I actually just read during the night) and was lying in bed, not tired or anything.

Suddenly i felt something behind me and it seemed colder. I looked behind me and I saw this tall, probably 6'6", black male figure walking in the hallway, only 2 feet away from me. His body looked like it was black smoke contained in a male body with no defining features. Needless to say, after I got out from under my covers, i slammed the door shut with my eyes closed.

Around a year or two later, I saw him again. This time I was off sick from school. There was sunlight pouring in, a gorgeous spring day. I was watching T.V. when I felt something. In the short (only about 4 feet long) hallway between the living room and kitchen, I saw the figure walk from one wall to another. I was really freaked out, especially because it was in broad daylight, and both times there was nobody awake or in the house.

This isn't the time I've experienced ghosts either. The stories are endless, like my sister being repeatedly poked in the back in our computer room, and always seeing a guy out of the corner of our eyes from that room. I even called him James when I was younger. Things would go missing constantly and end up in random places I would never even go usually. Up to 6 lights would blow out within five minutes. I've heard voices, female though.

Hope this helped. Feel free to email me with any questions

I dunno if this is a "shadow person" or not, but here goes...

I was about 4 and was in my mother's bed. It was daylight, cause I can see... so I think I was either napping or sick. At any rate, I was supposed to be sleeping, but I was sitting up in bed playing. All of a sudden my shadow started to turn its head and wasn't following me. I started to get scared cause my shadow wasn't supposed to be moving on its own. I tried laying down, but it didn't lay down. Then, it leaned off the wall, reached forward, and tickled me. I screamed for my mother and it quickly went back to the wall, and laid down like me. My mom came running and I told her my shadow had tickled me. She told me I had just been dreaming, but I know I wasn't. I wasn't tired. I hadn't gone to sleep.

I never saw another shadow person, if indeed that's what it was, again.

I live in north Phoenix and in 2000, I was driving down Beardsley, now known as the 101 freeway, between 7th Ave & 7th St, when all of a sudden I heard this whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh... I called it a time warp sound because it sounded like "whoop, whoop, whoop" and I looked to my left where the sound was coming from and I saw this 6 or 7 foot tall, slender shadow man running through the desert field REALLY fast and he ran across the road, in front of my car, and off into the cemetery at 7th Street and disappeared into thin air.

I've told many people about it, some who have believed me, and some who have not. I felt a sensation at the time that the shadow was excited and actually surprised at the fact I had seen it. I could actually feel this. But I also felt the entity was shy and skittery also, and that's when it disappeared. He ran SO fast, like a marathon runner. I KNOW what I saw was very real, because although the episode happened fast, it was not fleeting.

I have also seen another shadow man in front of the house in our neighborhood, eavesdropping on a group of people's conversation, who were talking in the late evening outside. As soon as it realized I saw it, it ran away from the group and also disappeared into thin air. I am well educated, with a B.S. in journalism. These type of things amaze me and send my curiosity soaring!
