So... I'm glad that I found the term 'shadow people' suddenly everything has fallen into place as I finally know what I saw that night.

It was earlier on this year. I have been going through a very tough few years - I have left my alcoholic and abusive husband. I have had to move back into my mums house with my children. I have my childhood bedroom back. It is a large house and my childhood bedroom is large with high ceilings and an all white decor.

So the night in question I woke to find a dark shadowy figure stood over me. His outline was like my husband's - tall and possibly with a hat. My first thought was 'what is the husband doing here?' Then I quickly realised it couldn't be him as he lived at the other side of the country. I then became scared as I thought that the figure must be an intruder. My heart pounded. I blinked and the figure disappeared suddenly. I turned the light on and looked at my clock. It was 3am precisely.

The feeling from the shadow person was not one of a negative energy. It felt like a being from somewhere else. I thought maybe it was an alien. It scared me due to its real-ness and my shock at finding someone in my room! I knew the figure wasn't a ghost.

For the next 2 nights I had dreams that came true the next day. Which I thought was strange

On a personal level I seem to be going through an awakening. I seem to be developing psychic abilities. Knowing when things are about to happen. This happens on a weekly basis.

That's my story.

Please withhold my identity.

I have only told one person about this once, and I am pretty sure they didn't believe me and no longer remember what I told them or choose not ever bring it up again.

Four years ago, I saw something I will never forget. I woke up from a good night sleep, looked at the TV and realised I couldn’t move; I could only move my eyes. I looked to my bedroom door and I saw it standing at the closed door of my bedroom; a hooded cloaked shadow man. I tried to scream but nothing would come out. I struggled to move but that didn't work either. Suddenly, it rushed at me and was on top of me instantly. I closed my eyes trying to scream but no sound came out. It was crushing and choking me until, finally, it let go. I was able to let out a low, out-of-breath, “Help!” that no one heard. Then, the shadow man just vanished.

I went downstairs to ask if anyone heard me screaming. That's when I told the only person I ever told. I was told, no, they didn't hear anything and said it was probably a dream. I tried to explain it wasn't. I can tell you what was on the TV when I first woke, unable to move anything but my eyes. It was the news, about an accident the night before. I rewound the program and yes, there it was, minutes earlier, just as I said.

It happened. I know what I saw but, sadly, no one will ever believe it until they see it themselves just as it took for me to believe it.

Subject: My Experience

I’ve been experiencing shadow people for years now, but I, along with everyone I told, thought I was just imagining it. However, after doing research and discovering your page I realized that all of it actually happened. I’d like to share with you my first encounter.

This was about 6 years ago. At the time, I was living in a two-bedroom apartment with a close friend. It was a fairly simple layout.

One night, I woke up and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. I made it there without a hitch but on my way back to my room, a figure in the living room caught my eye. For a second, I thought it was my friend then I realized it was definitely not her. It was over 6 feet tall with long legs that faded at where it’s feet should have been; the only facial features it had were two red eyes. It was blacker than our unlit living room and its hands were claws at its side.

I was frozen, mostly with fear but I also felt like I was being held there by this being. One of its hands started to reach out to me and that’s when I finally broke free from its glare. Just like that, it was gone. I stood shocked before going back to bed. I woke up thinking it was all just a terrifying dream but then it happened again, and again, and again. It’s not frequently occurring that I actually see a shadow person but I can almost always feel something. So far, they haven’t caused anything physical to happen but the fear they give is enough.

Subject: A Connection With The Other World

I've always felt a connection to the supernatural. Ever since I was a kid, things like ghosts and goblins have always caught my attention, and I have always believed in them but everyone has always told me things like them “don't exist”. I know they are wrong because I have seen shadow people on more than one time.

The first time I saw a shadow person, I was ten. I was home alone, doing my homework in my room when I decided to get some water from the kitchen. On the way back, I looked into my living room and I saw it. The shadow person. It was extremely tall and seemed to be darker than darkness itself. I still remember how it felt to see it. I was terrified and calm at the same time, and I couldn't seem to look away. After what seemed like an eternity, I got enough control of myself to blink, and it was gone.

The next time I saw a shadow person was 7 years later. I was at my girlfriend's house, alone in the house watching a movie with her in her basement. She needed to go to the bathroom so I decided to get some more snacks. As I closed the refrigerator door, I looked up into her parents' room, which was directly opposite of the kitchen entrance, and saw my second shadow person. This one was different, less clear and seemed to be made of smoke. The change in appearance didn't change its effect on me. Afterward, I asked my girlfriend if she had heard anything weird in her house, but she looked at me like I was crazy.

My latest encounter was just over 6 months ago. I was at home, watching TV when I felt a chill run down my back. I turned around, and there it was, but more intense than before Exactly as it was the first time I saw it. I am sure that this was not the last encounter I will have, and I don't know if I am prepared for the next encounter.

Subject: Brazilian sighting

This story is at least 12 years old. My son was a child and he's an adult now.

My parents live in a big city in the Rio de Janeiro State, across the bay from Rio city. As far as they know, they are the first owners of the house. They live in a small military condo village that was built by the Air Force over what was just farmland in 1980. Knowing the dark past of slavery in Brazil, who knows what could have happened on the farm but as far as I know there was only grass there.

I have searched for a scientific explanation for a long time, but all hypothesis doesn’t fit what happened.

The house is small and the TV room gives a straight view of the kitchen. The white refrigerator is the first thing that you see. The sofa shared the same wall and you just had to look to your right to look at the kitchen. People prefer to enter the house by the kitchen so it's fairly common looking at it by reflex.

So, there's my 56-year-old mother, me (35) and my son (8) just talking about totally irrelevant stuff (TV, school, my son being bored) when I casually look at the kitchen to my right and see a black figure cross from where there's a table so no human could do this, in front of the refrigerator and to my mother's bedroom.

Here's what I saw: It was blacker than the dark of the kitchen, a male silhouette, bald, two arms and a torso but under it was like a thick line of "smoke" and nothing under. It was fast, 3 seconds I guess.

I was ready to dismiss this like my brain toying with me but I turned to my family and everybody was looking scared. My son saw it. My mom saw it. We all looked at the same time, like we do to see my father coming from work. Whatever it was, it was just passing and didn't acknowledged our existence.

All scientific explanations explain individual sightings. Sharing a hallucination happens after something preps the group to see the same stuff, just doing everyday stuff doesn't qualify.

I never saw it again. Someday, I have to ask my mother if it returned. But it's one of the only things in my life that I can't explain rationally.

My wife and I moved into a rental house along with my mother and my stepson and his girlfriend. The house was located in the middle of the woods in Harrogate, Tennessee.

To make a very long disturbing story very short: from the second day in the house we were all hearing things that shouldn't be there. The walls would bang, and you would hear footsteps and other non-explainable noises. About the fourth night there, I was in bed around 3:30 am with my wife and laying on my back with her head resting on my arm but she was facing away from me.

At the angle we were laying, I could see out the bedroom, thru the hallway and into the living room. I see a shadow that was blacker than black and about 7-foot-tall, roughly shaped like a person. It came from the kitchen into my line of sight in the living room. I watched it, fully awake, come all the way down the living room and zigzag thru the hallway into our room. It went around our bed and went right past me and stood in the corner behind me in the corner to my left. I was kinda in shock I think, I mean …I just watched this thing come all the way through our house and went right past the foot of the bed and now standing behind me.

I remember almost laughing in my head as feeling extremely curious and amazed all at once. I didn't move or make a sound and all the sudden, I remember what looked like a black tornado came out of the main shadow and went over my head and started coming down towards my wife. She was asleep on my arm so when I saw this, I pulled my arm and my wife towards me and the blackness drew back just like it came. I felt it got angry by this…overwhelming malice. And then it went into the wall and disappeared.

We left the house the next day and never returned.

I had my first encounter when I was about 5. I was sleeping in my bedroom in a rental house in Terre Haute, Indiana. I opened my eyes to see a shadow standing over me. It was much like a black cloud but shaped like a person. It had no face or eyes. I was so scared! I tried to scream yet had no voice and couldn’t. Throughout the years I saw it again and again. Sleeping, I would sense something over me and open my eyes and it would be there.

I now live in Illinois in a new home that we built in 2001. I have seen shadows in my bedroom a lot. For days it was on my ceiling and shaped like a dark angel. My daughter smudged the house and it stopped for a bit. Now my husband is seeing it. He opens his eyes and it is there. He closes his eyes and when he opens them, it is gone.

I was 21 and was on a trip to Spain with an ex-boyfriend's family. We were staying at an old apartment building in a rough part of the city. The family I was with, weren't nice to me and had left me there for a couple nights while they went on some tour.

I knew the apartment had something going on; lights would go on and off at night, doors would slowly open and close with no wind draft. Both nights I pulled out the hide-a-bed in the living room with the TV on and lights. There was tempered glass doors in front of the entrance way and there was standing at least five human black shadow figures. They didn't move or do anything...I just had to turn my back and try to sleep. I actually named one of them "Norman" and asked him not to scare me please.

This was 2001 and I will never forget it and have never experienced anything like it again yet.

On November 25, 2017, around midnight I had just drifted off to sleep when I felt a presence in the middle of my bedroom, behind me. I heard breathing identical to my husbands and assumed it was him coming to bed.

I said, "Is that you?" as I turned over to turn on the lamp. Before I got the light on, I saw a tall, husky, black shadow. I felt terrified and unsettled as I reached for the light. There was no answer to my question and when I turned the light on, nothing was there. It vanished, but I don't know where or how.

I eventually fell asleep and when my husband came to bed a few hours later his breathing scared me. I asked him if he could breathe differently. I told him what happened as he was confused why his breathing bothered me so much.

I have never encountered this before or since. I have been reading up on "shadow people" as I believe this is what I saw . I have never read a story in which one was breathing. My husband has a distinct way of breathing and am in awe of the shadow person being able to match the his breathing and aura.

I live in a small town in Northern PA. My hometown is surrounded with history, including a haunted jail museum near my old apartment building.

I remember when I lived with my parents, as a kid, seeing shadows walking past the windows to the main door. My mother and I would constantly see who would be walking to the door, only to find nothing.

I never thought much of it until years later, when I was in my early 20's. My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment (the one by the old jail) and eerie things started almost immediately.

The big one, that I will never forget, is the night HE came into sight. I had just had my second baby a few months prior, so I was up a lot at night. The baby had been congested from teething, so I let him lay with his father and me, so I could prop him up to help him sleep. I turned off my TV and glanced down at a clock I had on a bookshelf. I looked just in time to see the silhouette of a very tall man, with long hair, in a long coat and hat. Not quite a cowboy hat, but close. The rim was smaller. I froze in fear. I just stared at him till I mustered up the courage to nudge my boyfriend. My boyfriend stirred a little and I took my eye off the man for only a second, but when I looked back, he was gone.

I didn't sleep at all that night. I turned my tv back on and kept glancing to the foot of my bed.

I never saw him head on again, but I still, occasionally, see shadows moving around. My biggest question is... why? Why did he come to me? Why do I see the shadows?

It was only yesterday that I discovered that I'm not the only one, and when I heard another person describe the same man, I did some research. I'm not sure if it scares me to know others have seen him too, or if it brings comfort. I just hope to find out his intentions.

I stumbled across your site and was pleased to see so many people experiencing the same thing as me, slightly different, but the same. You have full permission to use my story by the way.

I started seeing this figure when I was a young boy, around 13. I am now 37 and still see it from time to time. It is a tall dark shadow, hooded and very terrifying. It gives me a feeling of helplessness and fear to the point of my night time cigarette breaks being accompanied by my pistol. Few times I have heard the sticks breaking beneath it near the woodline. I have been to doctors and psychiatrists only for them to tell me that it is imaginary.

My uncle has seen it once and experienced the noise it made when it leaned against a shed one time. He shouted at it and it vanished. I have never seen it indoors, always outdoors my whole life. I am in Southern New Jersey. It is very frustrating dealing with this, even one point I thought I was going insane.

I'm happy to see that I am not the only person dealing with this. I have too many questions and not enough answers, as most on this site.

Greetings,

My name is Lezli Polm. I consider myself a 'sensitive' although I've been referred to as a psychic.

Throughout my life I have had many paranormal experiences. I even wrote a book about them a few years back. (Thin is the Veil; A Haunting Memoir) I wanted to share with you my recent and only encounter with a 'Shadow person.'

My husband and I were visiting our daughter who lives in Virginia. Since moving into their house in Springfield, they have had a few poltergeist type events. (things moving on their own). I sensed a presence in the home previously, but never had any direct contact with anything until this last visit.

I was asleep when I was woken by a dark figure standing right next to my side of the bed. It was approx. 3:00 - 3:30 AM. I know this because directly following the visitation, I looked at the clock and it was 3:42. The dark shape was totally black and I could see no features. It was probably 5' tall with a long slender head and longer than normal arms. It bent sideways and looked me in the face. I did not see eyes. It seemed more curious than menacing. Nevertheless, I was scared out of my mind to wake up to that. I tried to scream, but all that came out was a series of mewling sounds. Just as I was reaching over to wake my husband, it vanished. It didn't fade or move from the side of the bed, it just went 'poof.' Gone.

Since this event my daughter has had another instance of poltergeist type activity. A heavy bookcase moved overnight. I don't have any explanation for these occurrences.

Thanks for letting me tell my story,

Lezli A. Polm DD

My 1st experience with shadow people happened when I was about 5 years old, around 1979. I remember it like it was yesterday. Gives me chills every time I think about it.

I lived in Inkster, MI at the time with my older brother and mom. Sometime in the middle of the night I was sleeping in my own bed, in my own room and rolled over from facing the wall to facing my bedroom door and opened my eyes. Right there in the doorway, hovering in the doorway was a shadowy, dark, large male figure. No face but a full figure with arms, legs, head and human shape. The shadow figure completely filled the doorway side to side and top to bottom. I tried to focus for a quick second as it just seemed to face my direction and "watch me" silently and motionlessly. I then realized this is NOT my mom or brother and screamed loudly in fright and the figure seemed to wisp away down the hallway towards our front door. I heard a "slam" like a door slamming shut and then my mom and brother came running in from their rooms down the hall opposite our front door. I told them what I saw and she checked the doors and windows and house. All were locked, no one in house. She said it was a nightmare.

Next encounter about 1989, I'm a young teenager and I'm staying the night at a friend's house. I'm sleeping in bed and wake up sometime after midnight but before 4am and open my eyes. Hovering above me is the same dark, shadowy figure from my childhood. No face but full large figure. A complete feeling of calm, peace, comfort and knowing came over me. No scream…no fear…no fright this time. It seemed we "knew" each other, kinda weird. Since the last experience I had with my shadow person I feel it's a guardian of some sort.

It's now 2018 and so far, no more solid sightings...just the quick flashes of shadows that we all see here and there. But I always have that "someone's watching over me" feeling and I like it.

Thanks for reading.

A few nights ago, I was driving home at night, as I often do, and my mania was in full swing which is often when I see lights or shadow beings. I live in Albuquerque, NM in the USA and there is much supernatural afoot in New Mexico in general...I've encountered many scary, strange, and wonderful beings.

I was looking down the freeway and about 20 feet in front of me was the largest shadow being I had ever seen. It was a sexless human creature with a jackal head. I nearly had an accident. I slammed on my brakes so hard I thought I was about to hit something solid. As I passed through it, the thing shrunk in size and only appeared as a human child made of darkness.

As I drove away I couldn't continue to look back and they never appeared in any mirrors so I'm not sure what happened to them. This happened around 1 am, Mountain Time (Zone), and it has only continued to be just as terrifying, if not more so, since that night.

Every night as I drive home, I see children crying and wrapped in balls of shadow, but they are the shadow themselves that seem to slither into human form the closer I get. And as I leave, they turn back into crying children. I usually see shadow people attached to someone so looking so innocent is somehow more terrifying especially unattached. They seem terrifying to me. I'm not sure what this means but I do know a dark war is coming. I've sensed it for a while now. You can include this in your archives. Don't know what it means but it feels like a bad omen.

I witnessed something, or someone dressed in what appeared to be a black cloak. It didn’t have a hat. I was, at that time, living in El Paso TX on the 1300 block of Ochoa Street, date around August 2016 and time 12 am.

I turned off my television and looked out the window, something I do every night, when I noticed the dark figure walking north on the sidewalk. It stopped suddenly and turned to look directly at me. It turned its head to the right as if to say, ‘I see you.’ It was probably 30 feet away and about 15 feet high.

It was dark, so I don’t believe anyone could see me looking out my window although this figure noticed me immediately and just stared at me or in my direction. It stared for probably 2 minutes until I got really creeped out and just left to my bedroom. I may have gone back to look but I don’t remember.

I’ve had other even stranger things happen to me in my life. I hope to see another one soon, so I can confront it with my 4K camera…whatever it is.

I don’t know if it’s the same thing, but it sounds more like shadow people than anything else I’ve looked into and I just want to understand.

I woke up last night and turned over with this sense of feeling someone or something watching me. As I turned over and looked into the corner of my room, there stood something tall, about 6ft and in grey shiny jacket and black trousers with its hood up. I kept looking to make sure I was awake, and I definitely felt scared but not in a way that felt like danger, but in a way that felt fear. The strong feeling I had was immense, I was petrified but still didn’t feel like it was going to hurt me.

I slowly laid back down and cuddled into my partner hoping it would go but it felt like it was a minimum of 20 minutes before it left. I laid there trying to figure out what it was and what it wanted. I waited till it started getting light before going back to sleep.

It’s not the first time I’ve felt something there but it’s the first time I’ve seen a defined figure. People who have been at my house see shadows going up and down the stairs and I feel like there’s something standing in the corners of my house all the time. I also have a massive problem with doors left open since I was a child I can’t be in a room with a door open and I don’t know why.

Up until roughly age 7 (I'm 16 now), I saw shadow people constantly out of the corner of my eye. However, I never thought about it, as the moment I turned my head, they were already long gone. I never thought too much of it until at age 7.

I was at my Aunt’s house celebrating New Year’s Eve with my family when I something catches my eye. My aunt’s living room is attached to a long, usually dark hallway with 3 doors on the right and 2 on the left. The farthest two doors are directly across from each other. When walking past the hallway in the living room, something caught my eye. I turned my head, but rather than whatever anomaly disappearing, the shadow figure, robed and hooded, slid across the end of the hallway from, at the time a female cousins’ bedroom, to my aunt’s bedroom. It was the first instance a figure had not instantly disappeared. It didn’t walk, standstill, or turn its head; it quietly glided from one door to the other without noticing me seeing it. I believe it didn't disappear because it didn’t notice me looking at it.

Ever since I have seen next to no shadow people.

Odd.

It was summer about 3 years ago in my home in Auckland and I had been out for a walk trying to get in shape. I got home about 6.45pm and the sun was shining brightly. I walked into my room to open the window as it was hot and stuffy.

The shadow person was lying sitting up in my bed staring at me. It was a dark human form but kind of transparent but had lighter eyes where the eye sockets are. I just stopped and stared back at it kind of surprised but trying to comprehend. I was not afraid and after a few seconds in one fluid movement it flew out the window and vanished. Afterwards I was left questioning whether I imagined it, or it was my own shadow but real shadows don’t have lighter eyes.

It was interesting, and I’m still not scared it’s like it wanted me to see it and I didn’t feel threatened. I think it’s just curious.

I now have the feeling it lives in my garage which is underneath my bedroom. I haven’t seen it directly again like that yet but get glimpses out the corner of my eye every now and then.

Before I saw it in the daytime like that I used to think there was a shadow figure in the corner of my bedroom near my bed wearing a monk cloak with hood. I woke up one time and saw something standing there. Not sure if it’s the same one. That one freaked me a little.

HI, I have only had one encounter with a shadow person but it's a memory I still carry with me after nearly 16 years.

I was 6 or 7 years old, and my class at school went on an overnight camping trip. We stayed in a cabin and I slept on the bottom bunk of a rickety bunk bed with a clear view of the doorway to the bathroom. We had left the bathroom light on as a night light.

I remember laying in the bed with my eyes closed, and when I opened them there was a black figure floating by the bathroom doorway. It was probably roughly 6ft tall, like the size of a grown man but it didn't have any features. I could sort of make out a human shape but just barely. I remember just lying there watching it for what felt like several minutes and it didn't move. I felt scared, but not scared enough to feel the need to close my eyes or hide under the covers. I just simply watched it until it practically, in slow motion, melted onto the floor and broke off into thousands of tiny particles. That part scared me more because watching the tiny particles spread all over the room reminded me of bugs and I remember feeling like they were crawling on me.

The whole experience amazed me because even at such a young age I was perplexed by why I didn't feel more scared. Its presence felt completely neutral.

I haven't seen a shadow person since, although I have a feeling that wasn't going to be my only time seeing one.

The more videos I watch about other’s experiences with shadow people, the more I know what I experienced as a child was real. Some of their stories are identical to my memories.

In the early 90s, my family was living in Haletown, Tennessee in a tiny grey house across the street from the old post office. Every night when my mother would tell me goodnight and turn out the light, she would leave the hall light on. Shortly after she left the doorway, a full bodied shadow in the shape of a man, with no identifiable facial features and as tall as the door, would come into my room and examine my possessions. Sometimes there was more than one, up to three at a time. There was just enough light pouring in from the hall for their movements around the room to be seen perfectly. I never screamed, moved, or tried to run because I was terrified of it realizing I could see it. They seemed to ignore me. I froze and could scarcely breathe, I was six years old, and for some reason, I thought everyone could see them. I'll always remember seeing them stand in the doorframe just before entering the room. I always wanted to scream for my mother, but I feared as close as the shadow people were to me, they could reach me before my mother did.

I can remember one night when three of them gathered around my original Nintendo, as if they were amazed. They never showed any interest in me, or acted violent, they just wandered around my room looking at everything. I've repeated this story to different people for 29 years. It's been 29 years since I saw one, but am still haunted daily by the memories.

I'm a 40-year-old white male whose been hearing impaired since birth. I've always seen shadows in the corner of my eyes. It used to only happen once in a while and it never really bothered me, I was more curious than concerned.

Recently I have been seeing them every day. It's usually in the corner of my eyes. I see it peeking around the corner or door. It's always just black, the silhouette of a head and shoulders. It started happening every day about 3 months ago. The other thing is I’ve also just started seeing them closer to the floor, almost like an animal crawling on the floor in the corner of my eyes. It's always black. Seems too black for a shadow. I live south of Boston. I'm not scared of them.

Ten years ago, I was in the hospital. Had been in the same room for about 3 days with the same roommate. The day she was let go, I was left alone in the room and was not worried at all.

In the middle of the night, I woke up and rolled over on my right side and saw the figure of a man standing in the corner. The room was dark except for the windows which the shades were open. I could see clear across the windows until it got to this huge hulking looking man that was just black. Couldn't make out any details on the person, couldn't see eyes or anything. I just laid there staring at it. It didn't move or anything, just stood there.

I immediately started screaming and ran out of the room. I wouldn't go back in after that. They had me sleep behind the nurse’s desk because of how freaked out I was. It took years to figure out what it was that I saw. This was at Heritage hospital in Taylor Michigan in 2008.

Where to start?

I was nine years old and lived with my parents in a house where my dad's best friend, Graham, had died of heart attack (important as it's relevant further on).

It started with my mom trying to open the porch door which would open a foot then stop. (Graham died on the porch). I'd sit in the living room and there was a frosted glass door and I'd see a darkness quickly pass by… never knew what it was but I know I felt terrified to look .

The time I saw the shadow person, I was on the sofa with my dad and he was changing a bulb in the lamp. He passed me the bulb to hold and I, for some reason, looked at it and as plain as day, I could see a dark figure standing against the wall. He was tall, just a solid black figure. It didn't appear to have a hat or even hair; it was just a solid black mass in the form of a person.

Twice I looked away and it was still there. It seemed to have its arms folded across its chest. I felt terror and deep uncomfortable feeling, almost a panic.

That same night there was a huge bang in the house, and I remember my dad checking if I was ok. I later learned there was no explanation to this bang, but I know it vibrated the upstairs rooms.

I am now forty and I feel like I have been cursed and this is the only occasion I can link to causing it.

I believe it will still be the same situation in the home as it was then I don't even want to walk past. We've had extreme bad luck as a family. My mom and dad divorced in that home, my brother was murdered, my mom died at fifty-seven my, dad has suffered and I've had no luck at all. No matter what I do, I can't seem to have a normal life.

Subject: Shadowman

I am from Corpus Christi, Texas and my encounter, while brief has stuck with me since I saw it, nearly a year ago.

I was driving home late from work, around 2 in the morning, I was about a block away from Ocean Drive and about a mile from a local cemetery, at a traffic light that just turned red.

I took a look at my cell-phone to see if I had any missed calls or messages when I felt a sudden panic build up in my gut; I quickly looked up and saw a shadowy mass that seemed to roll off the roof of a house and then rose up as it touched ground. The mass was clearly a man, but rose to an incredible height, I would guess nearly 20 foot tall. It began stepping forward and with each step it began descending as though walking downstairs until it disappeared into the street. I was briefly paralyzed with a sense of dread until the traffic light turned green.

I sped out of there taking a longer route to avoid passing the graveyard, feeling more relieved the further I got away. While I have yet to experience any further trauma from that encounter, I had the presence of mind to believe it a bad omen, and have avoided that street, even during daylight since.

Subject: Peeking Shadow Person

Hello, I live in the Nashville Tennessee area and have a shadow person in my home.

When I am sitting on the couch in my den, I see it peeking at me around the corner, always from the hallway. The hallway opens to my dining room, in which neither the hallway nor dining room have any windows. I don't recognize any features that suggest gender but have always referred to it as male. It is not completely black, just the normal size, shape and appearance of an adult's shadow. It seems curious and content just peeking at me.

I have always had paranormal or unexplained experiences since childhood, but only remember seeing a shadow person in my current home, in which I've lived for 27 years. I am a Christian and active in my Church. I have recently bought a set of Catholic rosary beads, even though I'm not Catholic, my father's family were, and at someone's suggestion, I thought that I would give it a try.

The first time I attempted the Rosary, my dogs started barking and running in circles, so I laid the rosary down and put the dogs outside. I went back and picked up the rosary beads and the chain was broken; one of the links of chain was not completely closed. I had bought it new, so I assumed that it was probably loose when it was packaged.

I went and got my eyebrow tweezers and closed the broken link of the chain. I checked the rest of the chain for loose links and found none, laid the beads down and went to put the tweezers back. When I returned to say the Rosary and picked up the beads, the chain was broken in a different location. Once again, I fixed it with the tweezers, and carried the rosary with me when I put the tweezers up.

I was getting ready to say the Rosary when my phone rang. I put the beads around my neck and answered the phone. When I stood up afterwards the, rosary beads broke and fell to the floor. This time the chain links were solid at the site of the break. I got a small flexible piece of wire and wired it together. Once I completed saying the Rosary prayer, it hasn't broken again.

I do this every day now, and also say prayers of protection. This has helped with the other unexplained disturbances but not with the shadow person. I have noticed that the less I acknowledge it, and the calmer I remain when I see it, the less often I see it, but it has never completely gone. Does anyone else have one that peeks at them or similar experiences?

Subject: Shadow figure

This encounter happened very fast and lasted only a short moment. It also happened to be my second encounter with a ‘shadow figure’. The first happened when I was young and in the 3rd grade but that story if far more boring.

This particular encounter happened around this time last year around November/December, on a drive home from Taco Bell. While my friend and I’s urge to get Taco Bell was created by a foreign substance, I promise the shadow figure was not created by that.

It happened as we were coming to a four-way intersection, east and west bound lanes had no stop signs while north and south did. I’d say about 30 seconds before we took our turn left to go north, crossing the intersection was where the shadow figure appeared. It happened so clearly and fast that I couldn’t believe my eyes. A shadow figure the size of a cat ran out of some bushes behind the sidewalk and made its way across the street at a very fast pace. As it went across the street, it grew in size. It went from a cat size, to a large dog size, and, finally, at the middle of street it reached its full size; the size of which would be equal to a full-grown man. The only difference is that now it could be fully seen levitating off the ground. The only way I could describe at that point is that it looked exactly like a Dementor straight out of Harry Potter. It exhibited no negative behaviors or anything and kept moving very quickly across the street and disappeared into the wall on the other side of the street just as we were taking this left turn to head home.

I genuinely would’ve just tried to forget the encounter if my friend wasn’t there to confirm the exact same thing I had just seen. We had both just watched the exact same thing happen in front of us and we were bewildered. We’d never seen anything like that before and there was absolutely no other car in sight in any direction. Just us and “Dark Shadow” as we refer to It for now. I still can’t think of anything to explain it to this date. Which is why I’m emailing this story.

Subject: Shadows People and why people who do meth have such difficulty with them.

The first time I experienced a shadow person, it was fine, they didn’t mess with me. I was very curious, and this curiosity came back to bite me in the ass.

The next time I saw one I was high on meth. They were everywhere. I love fantasy, so my first thought when I saw a very small one, that it was a fairy. I was wrong. Either it pissed them off or they figured, ‘what the hell, lets fuck with this girl.’

From then on, it was a roller-coaster ride. I was fed a million stories. They were people I knew; they were demons and this list could go on and on. I came to hate and distrust nearly everyone around me, including those I love.

I got sober and still see and hear them to this day. A lot of people believe this is meth induced psychosis. It is not. I’ve been off meth for long time. What I came to find out was that I had been targeted by some spirits who like to screw with people on meth, especially ones who have been through a lot. Being as most people on meth are addicts, that makes it easy to pick targets. On and on this went for years, until I finally got to the point where I didn’t care what they said about me or threatened.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for most people on meth. They stay paranoid and confused as to what is going on around them. I learned way more than I wanted to about spirits. Not all spirits are bad though they are interested in life which can cause you problems if you can hear or see them. Mostly that they are bored. Being dead sucks. So, when they find people who can hear and see them, they latch on. To keep your interest, they will tell you anything. Try to keep you in drug addiction, alone as, more often than not, people on meth only see them after days of no sleep.

My recommendation is to ignore them or stay busy. It can be difficult to do since there are few who understand what you are going through and most won’t talk about it for fear of appearing crazy.

I know there is a chance you won’t put this on your site but I hope you do. Drugs in the story make it appear less credible, but this is not the fact. When this first happened to me, I looked everywhere for answers. I found none that encompassed my experience. Maybe my story can help just one person. Either way, shadowpeople aren’t shadowpeople; they are spirits. They come in all sizes because we do.

Subject: True story

I've long believed in astral travel and have practiced it to great extent. I also remain skeptical of many stories of astral travel experiences, so I try to remain as objective of my own experiences as possible.

One method I often apply is to travel somewhere previously unknown to me but known to someone else that I have access to. The practical application is to have a sketch pad readily available prior to traveling. Immediately upon return to my body, I'll sketch as many details of the location I visited, then present the sketch to an acquaintance for verification or refutation of those details. So far, I've had zero refutations, so I'm confident in the validity of my experiences.

About 10 years ago, my wife asked me to show her how it's done. I agreed and retrieved two sheets of blank paper and pencils. I instructed her to say nothing to me upon our return, but to simply sketch everything she sees on the trip. I told her I would do the same and we would then compare the sketch details for verification.

I held her hand and verbally guided her spirit out of her body while leaving my own body. I kept her spirit connected to mine and pulled her far out beyond anywhere I had ever been before. I could see a couple of planets zoom past in the distance as well as stars.

We soon came to rest on a large rocky asteroid. I could feel it tumbling slowly through the depths of space. I quickly noticed the presence of shadow people swarming over the surface of the asteroid. The surface was somewhat roughly stepped, as though the asteroid had formed in strata on a planetary body and broken away long ago. The shadow people had few visible details other than humanoid shapes and rather two-dimensional. They were on all fours, hands and feet, moving in gliding strides. I could see the forms of the nearest shadow people turning their 'heads' in my direction as if out of curiosity. I felt our safety to be at risk, so I pulled my wife away and returned us to our bodies.

She opened her eyes, clearly both exhilarated and scared. I reminded her to sketch what she had seen before saying anything else. When we both compared our sketches, it was clear the experience was real. My artistic skills are a bit better than hers, but even so, the stars in the background, the blackness of space, the steppes of the asteroid surface, and the forms of the shadow people were present on both sketches and nearly identical.

I now firmly believe that shadow people are real, and not of this earth.
