Subject: My experience

Dear group,

Here is my account.

About 3 months ago, I awoke suddenly from sleep, lying on my right side, on the right side of our double bed. (My husband was fast asleep on the left side of our bed). I had a complete real and physical sense of someone in our room; I sat straight up, and looked towards the end of our bed/bedroom door to my left.

I saw as real as day, a tall human shaped figure composed of black smoke. It had been sat on my husband’s side of the bed; towards the feet end. I didn't feel scare me at all, almost the opposite. It seemed to become instantly aware that I was seeing it and in a few seconds mobilised upwards and outwards off the bed and over the bedroom door. I was aware of being fully awake. I went in search of the figure, and even double checked the outside door locks. I was not upset or frightened, even slightly comforted. A nighttime protector? Guardian angel?

Subject: Shadow People.

Hello,

I have had many experiences with the shadow people over the years. But this story still has me baffled.

It was the last Thursday in September 1978, I was living in Queens, New York. I needed some extra funds to pay unexpected bills, my money was tight.

My wife and I went to bed at around 10:30 p.m. she fell asleep but I was still up, suddenly I saw a man of about 5’-10” in height walk out of the wall in our bedroom and walk directly toward me, he was dark but I could make out his facial features, he appeared to be in a pleasant mood. I got out of bed and followed him, he walked to our bathroom and disappeared, but he said something to me that caused me to go out the next morning and buy a $2.00 lottery ticket that netted me $2,500, I paid my bills, bought my wife a gift and put the balance in our savings account.

I don’t remember what he said to me and I have not seen him since.

Subject: My Shadow person experience

To whom it may concern,

Let me start off by saying I'm a rationalist. I try to 'debunk' anything paranormal before actually accepting the fact that I've had an other-worldly experience. That being said, I do believe in the paranormal, always have.

I will never forget the one and only time I've ever seen a shadow person. My experience happened when I was 15 years old. There was a wooded area parallel to the apartment complex I lived in. Just to give you an idea, when you walk out the front door, looking directly to the left was the woods. So one day I stepped onto the front porch and just happened to look over at the tree line. I immediately notice a silhouette of a man kneeling in the canopy of the trees (about 40 feet). The only way I can describe it was a black mass; a solid silhouette with no defining features what so ever. No clothing, no facial features, hair etc. Just a man solid black. He was kneeling with one arm raised holding on to a branch above him as if he was holding himself to maintain his balance. I stared at him and he stared right back at me for what seemed like an eternity. In reality it was about 7 to 8 seconds. I was frozen. Not from fear but more from shock and awe. I couldn't believe I was actually seeing this. I remember thinking what in the hell is that!

After about 8 seconds he suddenly and quickly stood up and started running/jumping from tree to tree (with ease). He jumped 3 trees over until he was out of sight and my view being blocked by the apt building. I immediately ran to that side of the building to see where he was and I was left with nothing but the trees swaying on a windless day. Like I said I will never forget this experience but never really thought about it much after that.

When I was about 21 I had stumbled across a documentary about shadow people and I immediately knew that that's exactly what I had seen way back then. I'm 28 now and have had a lot of paranormal experience since. So much so I wouldn't think anyone would believe me. I'm glad I found this website and looking forward to hearing from you about my experience. I would like to write about my other paranormal experiences here as well so let me know if you’d like to hear them. Thanks for reading.

Please share this story on your website as I would like to hear feedback.

Thanks,
The3rd

Hi, thought I would share my story which happens about three years ago just outside Winchester, Hampshire in the U.K.

I was about forty-four at the time and it was winter. We used to live in a big house with a large garden and at the bottom of the garden I had a cabin/study. One evening I had just locked the cabin and was going up to the house and for some reason I had the urge to turn around which I did. Standing half way up the garden I was looking back down at the cabin and noticed a shadow kind of creeping through the trees behind the cabin, it did not take on any particular form but I would best describe it like a huge cat, let's say six times the size of a regular cat, though saying it was like a cat is not strictly true it; was just a long shadowy form that I literally watched creeping through the trees.

I must have stood there for about a minute in which it went from one side of the garden to the other, from right to left where it disappeared into darker shadows. I did not feel afraid but was puzzled and noticed all the hairs on my neck standing on end. I walked back to the house went inside and locked the door, then I did feel scared. I had never heard of the shadow people until later that night when I started trying to find some answers as to what I had seen via this site and the Internet.

I have never seen anything since or indeed before that night even though I am more vigilant than ever hoping to see something again so that I may convince myself that I'm not crazy. What I do know is that I definitely saw something that night. Tom

There used to be a swimming hole near Williams College called The Tubs. About 30 years ago, five friends and I were swimming there on a hot spring day. The Tubs is a series of granite pools along a stream in the woods.

We were in the top pool. On one side was a hill with trees and leaves. At one point, three of us noticed a man in canvas colored clothing and wearing a hat walking up the hill about 20 yards away. We were surprised because no one had been around far as we knew. Then he stopped and looked back at us. We each saw he had no face, only a dark zone. Somehow, he passed out of our awareness and we were left to compare notes. We all saw the same thing. This all happened pretty quickly.

After this, we just hung at the pool - there was no fear, only fascination and gratitude for seeing something clearly not of this dimension.

Subject: Seen a shadow person

Feel free to use my experience on your site!

I had always been into ghost stories and being spooked (my mom is also really into psychic things as well and is very superstitious).

One night about 5 to 6 years back (I was 9 or 10 at the time) I was heading home from softball practice with my dad. We were on the outskirts of our town when from far away I could see a dark figure crossing the road after a bridge under a traffic light. The light being green, my father did not stop. The shadow being was right in front of our car, and I was shaking my father and telling him "Dad! You're gonna hit the guy in the road!" Right as our truck is inches away from the figure it turned and I got a look at its face. It has been a while but I remember the face as being shadowy with no features but wide red eyes. My dad drove right through it and nothing happened so I knew right away it wasn't a human. As we drove away I sat there shocked. My father had been on the phone the entire episode and had not seen anything crossing the street (I must add he is not a skeptic and doesn't believe in anything even slightly paranormal). After that I refused to look out the windows and sat silently freaking out the rest of the ride home.

The shadow person I saw looked about 5' 6"-ish and it seemed to me to be a teen; the way it walked had that kind of jaunt that teen-age boys have but it did not feel evil. It also looked pretty human; I could see vague clothing on it even though everything was shadowy and it did not float or look wispy around the edges. I probably would have noticed his lack of color (and human-ness) had it not been very late at night and only an old street lamp was illuminating the street.

I had recently bought a book on the paranormal and saw an entry on "shadow people". What I read reminded me of this experience and (having written said experience off but still remembering it as being weird) finally told my mom. She was surprised I hadn't told her earlier and told me of her past paranormal experiences. Feeling more sure in my story, I looked up shadow people and saw more stories similar to mine on your site. Maybe someone will finally figure out what shadow people are and what they want someday!

I have not seen him or anything else supernatural since then, but maybe in the future who knows?

Subject: My Shadow Experience

My first experience was at 16 I am now 44. I kept seeing fast moving shadows from the corner of my eye, this lasted a few months then one night, I awoke from sleep to see a "male" gender shadow at the bottom of my bed staring at me. You would have thought I'd screamed but my intuition was protector coming from the shadowed figure. He stood still and I fell back asleep.

Now time had passed since that experience, I never saw him again. But at 44 now, I came out of bathroom from getting ready to go to work on 2nd shift. Alone at home, around 1:30 pm I looked up at my front door and there stood another Shadow except this time a name was made known to me in my mind; someone I had been seeing on/off for few months. As quick as it appeared and made the name known, it just then disappeared.

My daughter is 23, she said at night, she could feel a presence in my room, that sometimes she felt it watching her from my bedroom doorway from the dark, but when I returned home that night she said all was calm.

There is a feeling in my bedroom, sometimes it is foreboding feeling and other times it is just there. The shadow has never harmed or communicated to me, just the visit to let name be known to me. I see this person once in a while still, date occasionally but not serious. When he is here at my home, you can feel the "bad" feeling throughout house, I'm not sure if the Shadow sense danger from this person but I know the Shadow is here, not from physical appearance but my gut feels it here, only in my bedroom.

I am a Pagan but believe in God too. But at a young age I always felt something apart of me that didn't fit into an average human, spiritual side & this is where I feel the Shadows presence.

Many blessings🌙

Was getting some sleep to go into work on night shift and around 10 to 10:30pm. I was slowly waking up and could see numerous shadow people or children. I could hear voices saying over and over, “Wake up,” and “Don't go back to sleep.” What's really crazy is there was also like…a shadow dog, licking my face to wake me up and not go to sleep (we have no pets).

Funny, I know but it's not the first time I have seen shadow people. These were like children and a dog was present and they seem non-threatening. I could see them out in the hallway; my door was open to my bedroom and I could see them at the foot of my bed and around my bed. I wasn't scared but thought I was having a near death experience (again).

I finally did wake up to my youngest son burning his hamburger downstairs. Of course, I could smell the smoke and the alarm went off.

I don't know if it was a warning to what was going on with my son if he walked away from the stove or what, but as I stated, it's not the first time I have had these strange and eerie encounters.

Thank you for letting me share my story. Be Blessed!

Dear Shadow people org,

I want to share my story because I’m so freaked out I need to share it with someone! It was very brief and happened whilst I was half awake half asleep but has left a lasting imprint on my mind. All I know is that I definitely wasn't dreaming.

Country: Italy

City: Bologna

My boyfriend went out with his friends for a drink and I stayed at home to chill out after a long day at work. I sat down on the bed, Skyped my best friend for an hour and a half, ate some pasta and then settled down to watch a bit of telly on my computer.

After a few hours my boyfriend came home and we went straight to bed as we were both tired. I was a little restless once I had fallen to sleep, I kept tossing and turning as it was a warm summers night, not unusual for this time of year and I spent quite some time trying to get comfortable.

In the early hours of the morning, I am woken up by the only thing I can describe as a feeling that someone else was in the room with us, apart from me and my boyfriend. I instinctively turned my head to the left and see 2 black figures standing in the corner of the room, they had no features I could make out; no eyes or mouths or clothing. Just 2 black shadow-like figures that seemed to be vibrating or oscillating slightly. The figures were exactly the same as if they were twins, same height, same shape. I couldn’t make out any legs, it seemed perhaps as though they didn't have any but their body shape was well defined.

I cannot describe the feeling I felt as 'scared' because I was in that half state of sleep where enormous emotions like worry or happiness don't really exist and the things you feel are merely micro emotions that have a calm edge to them. I remember feeling concerned that they were there but not threatened in any way. At this point I turn over to my boyfriend and say to him, in Italian, quite calmly, which is unusual as in such a half state of sleep you would expect only mother tongue thought processes, “There are 2 people in the room with us over there." At which point he told me to be quiet and I was just dreaming. The next thing I know is that I’ve fallen back to sleep.

Don't really know what to think and am looking for answers!

Emilia

Subject: My Experience

Hello. I, too, have witnessed the shadow people. Please withhold my name.

When I was very little, my father would often nap because of the stresses of raising a child. For a few years, starting from age three and ending at age six, I would see a silhouette lurk and walk around the hallway of our California home. I, of course, was too busy watching SpongeBob to really acknowledge the shadow person but over time, his existence grew on me. I would sometimes glance at the corner of my eye and see him in the middle of the hallway. Since he was a two-dimensional being, it was hard to tell what direction he was facing, but felt he was watching me. He never seemed to have harmful intentions, however.

In the waning years of age 3-5, he "evolved" in a sense to where I no longer would need to see him in the corner of my eye, but rather could look straight at him. At this point I was waving at the cryptid as if he were my friend. I never got a response; he just seemed to stare off into space.

At around age six my mother took me with her to Escondido, where I had various creepy encounters with the paranormal. However, when my father gained custody once again, I tried searching for the shadow person. The man in the trench coat and fedora ceased to appear.

My great-grandfather wore a fedora, however I feel like that is irrelevant. He didn't wear a trench coat, and as far as I know, shadow people are completely different from ghosts.

Hi, I live in Lowell, Massachusetts.

I was renting a room from a friend in his apartment. Two weeks later I went to bed as I had to work in the morning. I was completely sober and had no drugs in my system just to clear that up. Anyway, about 3am, I turned over on my left side, opened my eyes and there, about a foot from my bed was a shadow of a person; kinda blobby-shaped and about 5 and a half feet high. I said to myself: what the f#%ck is that!

Next, I turned back over and said to myself: when I look again, it will be gone. So turned back to face it and it was still there. Now I remember I was not petrified when I looked and stared at it for about 15 seconds. So then I repeated the same thing. This time it was gone…completely gone. Thank God, it never happened again.

I was taking a bath at the time, I was in about 3rd grade. Mind you, I was facing the door which was open to about 6 inches or so. I see a hand come over the door, finger by finger, then another hand in the same fashion and then a head popped over the door and looked to be wondering what I was doing.

Hard to really explain the darkness I saw in the hollow center of the hands and “face”. It didn’t seem to want to harm me; more just watching. I was terrified, none the less and so came the screaming.

I heard my step father run through the house; from a faint thud to full out stomps while running. About half the time it took for my step-father to get to the bathroom, the fingers pointed toward the ceiling and the figure slid down the door and was gone.

My step-father entered a couple seconds after and asked what happened. He didn’t believe me and told me I needed to get into bed.

The house was torn down and there are now 3 houses on the lot. I’ve seen shadows since, but never as vivid as the first time.

Subject: The mist downstairs.

This happened to me only a couple of days ago but, I'm 18 and I was visiting my parents when I came out of my room to go to the bathroom. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see if my dad was awake or not so I took a peek down the stairs to see if there'd be any light. Instead of catching any glimpse of light, something quickly caught my attention so I looked down at the stairs. Sure enough, there was this pitch black mist or cloud of some sort rushing down the stairs and then it disappeared within at least 10 seconds.

From the looks of it, it seemed like the cloud, or whatever, had like a sketchy human like appearance as I thought I seen legs and the flailing of arms as it ran down the stairs, but it was too misty and fast to tell. Other than that, I was kind of confused or "weirded" out and I switched on the light to make myself feel at least a bit safer, and within the minute that I caught my own bravery again, I went downstairs to do my business.

I have had countless experiences with shadow people, benign and malignant, but they still kind of freak me out to this day.

Subject: My shadow person experience

I’ve seen shadow people long before I knew what they were. I used to think they were imaginary friends when I was a little girl. Naturally I became fascinated with learning about the occult, paranormal, and I really only enjoy horror/ suspense thriller films. Nothing really makes me doubt the paranormal but I do think logically before I make any decisions. I used to see shadow people out the corners of my eyes or while I was driving but something about today was different about the experience.

I was standing in my kitchen putting on the kettle for some tea. I sat on the counter and waited till the water boiled, and in the hallway where it was dark, I could sense something staring at me; almost staring so hard it wanted me to look at it. I looked and I stared until I could see the figure. It was a person. I couldn’t see its face, the clothes. I couldn’t tell if it was a boy or girl but I could feel that it was young, maybe in its teen years.

I saw it and it came closer to me (I was alone in the house) like it wanted me to help it. I felt its electric touch. Usually I would be scared at this point, running off into my room, but I just stayed with it. I watched it and it watched me; studying me like I was something out of the paranormal. It felt familiar the feeling of its electric touch. I was kind of in a trance and I told it in my mind that this was my house and I wasn’t going to let it make me afraid, it didn’t seem to want to see me afraid. I felt it’s touch again. I was shocked at this point and the water was done boiling, the kettle whistling for my attention. The last thing I see is the shadow person withdrawal into the wall of the hallway like it was going into the next apartment attached to mine.

I haven’t thought much about where it went but I know what I saw and I know what I felt. I hope to see it again and make contact. I hope my story was helpful.

I started seeing shadow people quite frequently about 2 years ago; always at night when I'm in bed and something wakes me up.

I see quite large male shapes standing in the corner of the room and I can't believe what I'm seeing. I stare and stare then they disappear. I possibly put it down to my imagination but it was happening just about every night.

Then one night I saw a tall slim man with a type of fedora hat on, standing just outside my bedroom door (door was open). I decided to Google my experience about seeing figures at night and that's when I came across the shadow people phenomenon. There was quite a lot of talk about the tall man with the fedora hat and that's when I knew it was real. I was pretty excited to read that, not scared at all.

I told a friend of a friend about this before I'd even researched it online and he said he saw them too, and had only recently begun to. I think I've only ever seen the fedora wearing man once but it was very clear.

Subject: The man behind me...

From what I've read, my story is relatively unique in the distance and otherwise, very similar.

I had no idea this was actually a widespread phenomenon until last night and have played it off as a trick of the mind for almost 20 years now.

I'm a firm atheist. I believe in no being. But after reading all these experiences, I have to share. Because it is SO dead on...

I grew up in the desolate and lonely landscape of northern Minnesota. To be exact, Strandquist, MN, 56758. We were surrounded by woods, fields, and nothing else. You could lie down on the highway with no fear of being hit by a car. Just wide open nothing. Anyway, I often felt watched. I often saw things out of the "corner of my eye", or felt "something behind me". But not like this night. Never like this night.

I was walking along a dark road in the tiny town, population under 100 people. I had a much younger friend with me, myself being perhaps 13, and she 9. She had gone ahead of me, because I was walking slowly. As I rounded the bend by the church, I entered a darker area. Dimly lit, no real street lights for about half a block ahead and behind. And I felt...something...behind me. I turned around to look and came face-to-chest with a massive, dense, completely black figure. It must have been 7ft tall. Maybe 8. I was young, I'm not sure. I see many descriptions with a hat, but it was so close, I can't confirm that. I glanced up long enough to identify some sort of head structure, but didn't keep my eyes open long. And I don't remember seeing actual hands. It was humanoid, understood by my mind as a man, very thin, but felt very strong somehow. It was just standing there, not moving. It seemed ... tense. It was right behind me. Maybe 14-18 inches back. So close I could've touched it but it did not touch me.

I closed my eyes and screamed, more terrified than I've ever been in my life. The feeling was pure shock, foreboding, and in that moment, I was sure I would die. When I opened my eyes again, it was gone. No shadows, not even my own, just the dimly lit street. I screamed again, this time for my little friend, but never told her what I had seen. I just tried to forget it.

Yet, here I am. 20 years later. Still with chills up my spine.

Goodnight folks.

Subject: My shadow people encounters

Greetings,

I have heard from time to time other people mention encounters with the Shadow People. I saw one when I was younger, sometime around the age of 12, through the corner of my eye, it was walking up the steps to the second floor of my home, and scared me, but then disappeared before it reached the top. It was VERY realistic, vanished when I looked right at it. Looked like a full grown male, but pure silhouette. Had a presence to it, almost like a low frequency audio hum. I never forgot the encounter, but did not hear of others seeing the same thing until much later, over the internet.

There was a second time as well, I was asleep, living in the basement of the same house, in my early twenties. A shadow entity came to me and whispered a name into my ear. I was adopted, and searching at the time for my birth mother. This quest had produced the last name Smith, and I was stuck, wishing someone would provide for me a given first name. The answer provided by the Shadow Person was Linda, which later turned out to be correct. However, I did not believe the information at the time, and was annoyed by it. In fact, the name Linda was indeed the name of my birth mother, as I discovered about ten years later. It was the family name which I had wrong.

What I brought away from these encounters, is that there are beings who manifest in this reality as shadows only, and cannot normally be seen by people. But sometimes glimpses come through, as if almost by accident. They seem to be here to watch us, or over us, in some unknown way. Whispering in my ear the solution to a lifelong puzzle, while I was sleeping, strikes me as simultaneously benevolent and also mischievous.

Thank you for compiling this information and offering folks a venue to share their stories about this phenomenon. I hope this information provided can be put to use by others looking for solutions.

Took my dog, Buster, for a walk down by Indian Creek outside of Cedar Rapids, Iowa tonight 10/5/16 at about 1800 hours and coming back on the trail, I saw a shadow off the trail about 50 feet ahead of us. The shadow looked to be male and maybe on a bicycle; at least I thought so at the time because he was moving that quick. He was off the trail to my left and not making a sound.

When I got to the spot where I saw the person, I realized there was nothing there and not part of the trail. All that was there was standing water from the flooding and no signs that anyone had been there; no foot or bicycle marks in the mud around the standing water and no one around it. It would be impossible for someone to not be seen where I saw the black figure.

SHADOW PEOPLE DO EXIST.

To this website: You absolutely have my permission to post this short story on your site.

Anyways, my name is Jasmine and I’m 18, and I have always had experiences with spirits, including shadow people, since I could remember. (I’m a medium) ….

Well I was 17 at this point, as it was the late winter/early spring and my birthday wasn’t until this year’s May, and I was alone in the living room as my dad took my mom to the hospital. My sister went along, so I was alone.

I grabbed a homemade Ouija board (that I created) from my room and I knew of a shadow who lurked around the property, so I wanted to talk to him. I called out for him on the makeshift board and he came. We talked for a bit, and I received his name, and eventually there came a time where I asked him to show himself to me. Note, I was on the floor so I can easily use the board, and I was in front of a fold up chair. I looked in the television screen and I saw him directly behind me, sitting in the chair. He was bald as I could see, and he was of course the color of black, but he looked kind of faded. I gasped and jumped away from where I last sat, and when I came back to the spot (in awe) about 10 seconds later, he was gone.

I still talked to him on the board, but now I know that if you ask them to show themselves, they will do it with no hesitation.

Hello.

First, I give you permission to share my story.

I was recently living in an old rental house. On three occasions, months apart from each other, I had a feeling of the need to wake up from sleeping. As I awoke, I thought I saw my young son in the doorway of my bedroom (one time it was right next to my bed). I quickly realized that what I was seeing wasn't my son, but the shadowy figure of a man about 6 feet tall wearing a hat. The moment I realized I was seeing this and right as the feeling of fright and panic struck, the image disappeared leaving me feeling shaken and uneasy.

I have since recently moved and haven't experienced it in my new home but I will forever wonder who that man was and what it was that he was needing.

Hi my name is Brianna,

Well to start off I've been seeing shadow people since I was about 4 years old. My parents thought they were imaginary friends. There are 3 of them, 2 masculine, 1 feminine. My 3-year-old dog reacts to them and stares until they're gone.

One of the masculine shadows is about 7' tall, completely black with long straight hair and shining blue eyes. He's very friendly and I’ve always felt safe with him around. Since I was little, he's been around usually at night whenever I'm scared or upset or hurt. He just appears in my room and curls up next to me on my bed holding me and telling me I'll be alright. I’m the oldest of 5 siblings but he’s always been like a big brother and that’s what I call him. My dog is always excited to see him.

The other masculine one is not kind and I’ve seen him about 50 times mostly when I was little. He’s about the same height as big brother but heavily muscled with long sharp fingers and completely black with sharp teeth and red eyes. When I was 6 years old he would come through my closet almost every other night to glare and snarl scary things at me. Then for about 10 years I didn’t see him. From age 16 on he shows up every couple months from my closet and glares and snarls and whenever I didn’t/don't have an animal or person (or big brother) in the room with me, he'd choke me or pull on my legs and arms till I will him away or pass out. I always have bruises after I see him. I call him Bill but I’m not sure why. My dad has seen him before but he always thought he was imagining things and I never told him any different. My dog always growls at him.

The feminine one is also completely black, but she stands about 6' tall and has golden eyes and curly shoulder length hair. She usually comes up through my floor and just stairs at me and my dog, sometimes she complements me, I've only seen her a dozen times in my life. My dog wags her tail for her.

I'm 24 years old if that gives you any ideas about how long they've been around.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has dealt with things like this. Feel free to publish this.
