Subject: Shadow people experience
Hello, I'm an Italian guy with a shadow people experience to share with you. First than all, I'm sorry for the misspelling errors I may write. My experience has to be dated around 1990-1991, when I was 5-6 years old. (I'm currently 25).
It was night and I was sleeping with my mother in a double bed; my father was working as garbage man for a night turn. I suddenly woke up and then I saw a strange human-like shadow moving through the two shutters of the windows opposite the bed. These 2 windows open on a balcony 3 metres from the ground floor and there is no entrance in the balcony except from one of the 2 windows into the room. (It's a door-window.) I watched the shadow moving back and forth for 5 seconds at least. Then I woke up my mother to show her what I was looking at. As soon as my mother woke up, the strange shadow disappeared in the wall between the two windows. After some time i described my experience to my older brother and he shocked me, revealing he had my identical experience when he was 5-6 too. (He is 6 years older than me.)
Here's the shadow description: It was very tall and it was dressed with a long coat and it had something strange on the head, like three thorns in front, upon and in the back of it. Later, I read something similar (to) my experience on the Internet and I determined the 'thorns' were really a fedora hat seen from the profile. The shadow moved back and forth and it looked like it had the hands in the pockets.
My personal opinion: The shadow was just keeping guard of the room. It didn't look to be hostile, although it didn't expect to be seen.
I really wanted to share this experience with other guys interested on this paranormal event and I hope this may be useful.

Subject: story and theories
Some of this will sound bizarre and a fair amount is speculation. Maybe it's all just inside my head.
I don't know how long I have had them around but I have noticed them for the past several months. They are usually not here and then arrive and stay for a day or two. I believe that it is principally 2 or 3 that are here and then it's not as noticeable, but when I have confronted them and told them I see them and want them out they have emboldened and come in larger numbers and then it's insane.
The house is full of electricity is what it feels like and the lights get crazy changing from rose to bluish to normal and back again and the like. I can hear some of their voices loud enough that I can follow the conversation and at one point it was so obvious that I stared at three of them talking amongst themselves and I saw them clearly and could see who it was. They looked up at me and said do you think he can see us. They then scattered.
It's a trick of some sort and people are doing it, dangerous criminal sorts I think, and I want to figure out how it is done. They are not actually in the house when they do it I don't think. I keep thinking it has something to do with all of the electrical wiring and cameras and phones and things that we have coming into our houses. I wonder if people experiencing this have some combination of home phone, security system with detectors around the house, furnace, etc... and this combination allows for some really amazing and probably not overly complicated thing such as this. I see them mostly in reflections and shadows, shadows are doubled, turning the furnace off seems to affect their ability to make an impact. I dunno. Probably just craziness but I'm mostly looking for information. I have tons of stories to share. Please keep my info private. Thanks.

Subject: Shadow People Incidents
I had never had an encounter with shadow people until I started dating my current girlfriend. The Shadows seem to have followed her here. I have been able to keep them out of the bedroom at night by doing a salt circle around the room and forbidding them to cross it, but they will still stand outside the door and taunt her. They knock things over in the house and make a lot of noise at night, and seem to dislike our cats. Sometimes I can hear them talking to each other. There are usually 3 of them. We have seen the "hat man" most often. I am not sure where they enter, as I only see them when they are already inside. They bother her the most. Sometimes they literally torture her. They have been here the last 3 nights in a row. They raise the temperature around her. Sometimes I will wake up at night and her entire body is soaked in sweat. They have grabbed her ankles while she was sleeping. We don't know what they want or why they are here, but I can feel the violence and hatred coming from them. I wish I knew who they were and how I could keep them away from us for good.
Feel free to contact me with any questions:

Subject: Sleighton Farm
This happened over a weekend in 1989 when I was incarcerated in Sleighton Farm, a juvenile correctional institution located in Glen Mills, PA.
At around midnight I walked from the TV room to my bedroom to lay down to sleep. The room was dark but light coming in from the window to my left allowed me to see things in the room. As a requirement, my door was left half open for the staffs to do headcounts. I can hear Vanessa William’s ‘Dreamin’ playing on the radio from a room few doors down.
Within a minute of me laying down I noticed a silhouette shadow came in from the door and stood to the right side of my head. His movement was swift and appeared to float rather than walk. He was what I would describe as “absolute dark” male figure with no facial, clothing or any other features on him. Light from the window couldn't reflect any features off of him. He stood at least 6'6” with wide shoulders.
As I tried to get up to confront him I noticed my body was frozen and could not move. At that point I felt great fear on my chest. He asked me a question with his thoughts, which as I remembered, answering him would betray somebody I know. I told him “no” with my thoughts, he responded by hitting me on the side of my head then asked the question again. At that point I went from fear to furious and struggle to get up to attack him. After a few seconds of struggle I was able to move but as I got up to turn towards him he was gone. I did not see him leave, he just disappeared.
Immediately after he left, I could not remember what that question was, as if someone erased it from my memory. It was a shame because knowing the question would probably help me understand what he was after. Vanessa Williams' song was still playing in the background. I felt great pain on the side of my head from him strike. I woke up my friend next door who loan me his Bible for protection. I couldn't sleep the next two nights in fear of his return. I haven't seen any silhouette shadow since then.
Please share my story on the Official Shadow People Archive. Thank you.

Subject: one of my storys
For two years I worked as a Nanny in Andover MA. It was an older house and I always had a funny feeling about it. Then one night at the foot of my bed he was there and all black. I could see the shape of him black like a shadow. He always had on a hat like the one Indiana Jones wears and a long coat. There he would stand every night. I knew he was there even if I did not look I could feel him there staring at me always staring at me.
My bedroom was the only bedroom on the second floor of the house. The only other room was a library slash computer room. After that first night with him I feared the stairs every time I went to go down them I felt like someone was going to push me down them.
At night I knew not to look at him it was like I could feel if I looked at him then something bad would happen. I can't explain it other than it was like I was allowed to know he was there but never to look. On the weekends I would go home to my Mother's house to get away and have a break from watching the kids. I never saw him at my Mother's house he was never there so I was free from him at home and that was nice. Then one weekend when I was at my Mothers there was a fire in the house. The fire started on the first floor and roze up to the second floor where I would have been. They said if I had been there I would not have made it out.
The fallowing Monday I went back there to see if there was anything left of my room. So I could get anything that may have survived. He was not there that day I went back but I got the same feeling going down the stairs that I always did but I never saw him again after that.
I never went back to that house after that I gave my notice at my job and went back to school. This is not the only experience's I have had but I have been thinking a lot about the shadow people lately and went online and was shocked at how many others have seen them. So I figured I would share one of my storys.

Subject: Shadow Person Story
Here's my story for your compilation (you may post it):
I was asleep when I woke up from the top bunk of my bunk bed (I was 10 at the time) and looked straight into its glowing crimson eyes, and stopped breathing. From what I remember, it was six to six and a half feet tall and was a silhouette just cut out of everything, like a shaped black hole. The only features I could discern were the eyes. After a few seconds I guess I remembered something my mom always told me, fear only controls you if you let it. So I just kept whispering 'I'm not afraid of you' over and over, I'm sure to convince myself, until I passed out from not breathing and didn't dream or wake up until morning. I never saw it again.
It seemed vaguely masculine to me, but I only saw its face from the neck up. It didn't seem to be threatening me, but its aura was of cold paralyzing terror and I get shivers and tense up just thinking about it. I've thought of it a lot over the years since then, and I can't imagine it wanted to hurt me, it may have just been that it couldn't control how I perceived it.
Sometimes I think it's a guardian angel, and other times I think it's just a confused, tortured soul who was trying to find some help and stumbled into me. Either way, now I feel remorse for not doing anything to find out more about it, but I was just a little kid so I suppose it's an age difference.

Subject: My shadowman
Hi! My name is Lynn and I have been "haunted" by a shadow man for about 3 years now. He is very tall and very slender. He gives off the sense of complete and utter evil. He is volatile and angry and more than simply unpleasant. He scared the hell out of me.
I was asleep on my dads couch in his front room when this shadow man attacked me for the first time. This shadow man tried to rape me. He has repeatedly tried to attack me every night for 3 years now. I gave him the name "George" because when I first met him, he was benign in nature. I thought he was just a friendly ghost. Then, for some reason, he became violent. I walked through him once and it felt as if he hated me or wanted to hurt me. I always know when he is around me due to a profound sense of total panic and I sleep with a lot of light around me so he doesn't try to attack me again. So far so good. BUT-he still hangs around.
He is pitch black in color. He doesn't look like the "hat man" or the hooded figure either. But-he likes night time and he loves to hide in the darkness. But lately he has gotten bolder, appearing in artificial light. I see him at work all the time. He makes himself quite known. It's as if he stalks me. He waits for me to be vulnerable so he can attack but I keep up my guard and prevent that. He would wake me when I would sleep at night (only at night) no matter where I was. He follows me. I used to think he was an incubus. BUT-then I heard about the "Shadow people". And I have read stories that hit too close to home. I can sincerely relate to those stories and experiences. This isn't really a story, I guess, I just wanted to tell someone about it. It's just so frikkin scary. Nothing ever frightened me like he does in my life. He feels like a dirty secret. It's just crazy! Thank you for reading this.

Hi, my name is Jake, I'm 15 years old and I've noticed that most people that have submitted stories are older, but first I just want to say I'm so relieved to have found this site. I thought I was insane or something but now I know I'm not alone.
It happened a few years ago. I was sitting on my coach staring at the tv with the power off waiting to go to school. I look down for a second to check the time on my phone and them I return my gaze into the blank tv, but this time when I looked I saw a shadow just behind me In the reflection. The shadow just walked slowly with his head low down the length of the couch and then looked up into the tv back at me, then it slowly put it's head back down and walked/dissolved into the air. I was scared but did nothing and just returned to waiting trying to forget what just happened. The shadow didn't seem threatening, he seemed more depressed or disappointed and like it knew something that I didn't. It was just a regular shadow but with a thin layer of dark fog around his figure.
Maybe a week later I noticed my lamp was on when I woke up. I thought nothing of this at first figuring maybe it's just some electrical problem or my mom, until one night I was watching tv alone at night and my VCR suddenly tried to eject a tape. I tried to ignore it and went back to watching tv. Then maybe a week later I was sick with a fever and I was watching tv again and the same thing happened so I just turned my head and tried to sleep I blinked my eyes for one second and suddenly a chill went through my body and I was frozen. As I was recovering I saw it walk out my door it was very transparent almost invisible. I was terrified and to scared to scream or say anything, but the one thing I did notice is that my fever was gone, as if I never had one in the first place.
I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if it somehow "cured" me but I'd didn't argue and I didn't tell anyone because even I though it was crazy. I think that particular shadow was a guardian or protector of some-sort, but since then I've always been scared to be alone or in the dark because I'm afraid a different sort will come forth.
I would like to keep my information anonymous please.

Subject: My shadow encounter
I believe in ghosts, but I had never had an encounter until shortly after dad died in 2005 of leukemia. We were very close and I missed him dearly.
One night after my son was asleep, I was sitting alone in a dark room with only a candle lit, contemplating my life. I was at a real low point that time in my life, almost total despair. Across the room was a box, and the light from the candle cast the box's shadow on the wall behind it, directly in front of my eyes. At one point I looked up and there was the perfect shadow form of a man sitting on top of the box. It was identical to if a real person were sitting on the box casting his shadow on the wall, but NO ONE was sitting on the box. There was no one in the room with me. It was startling, and I started looking around the room on my side for an intruder, knowing that wouldn't make sense because the shadow was sitting on top of the box in front of me. I was afraid to approach the box. It was there couple minutes. Finally I got scared and wondered could it be my dad. I said, "Dad?" in a frightened voice. I looked away and looked back and it was gone. It was a complete shadow, no features. I still don't know what it was, but I know I saw it for an extended period of time. I looked away and looked back several times, and it was still there. You can use this if you want.

Subject: My story
Hi I'm a 17 year old boy from Sweden. It all happened a couple of years ago, don't remember the exact date but I was about 15 and it was in the summer. I was at a Christian camp, and it was a meeting with worship songs. I just got a feeling that I had to be alone so I walked out into a small path in the forest. It was dark but not so dark that I couldn't see anything because there was a lot of light around from the lampposts. I had music in my ears and I just felt God's presence very strongly. Suddenly, I just felt that it was time to turn around. When I turned around, I saw a Big black shadow form, it looked bigger then a normal human being and I couldn't really get a good look at it cause it disappeared so fast but It looked like it was wearing some sort of cloak, it was darker then the darkness from the Forest. It was standing maybe 10 steps away from me, and just like that it was gone. I could feel how my whole body turned cold; it felt, for a second, like I was dead. The feeling just can't be described. First i tried to stay calm, I thought first that maybe it was my own shadow, but when i looked for mine, my shadow was just behind me so It couldn't be that. Then I just ran as fast as I can back to camp. I still feel like there is an evil trying to reach me.
If anyone can help me with this please email me and excuse me for the grammar.

Subject: i need answers
A couple years me and my cousin saw the same black, foggish, shadow enter the living room and disappear. The only thing I think triggered this was that the tv was on a static channel... like all grey and black and you know... the messed up channel. We both looked at each other and ran out as fast as we could. WTF!!! was that! We asked each other and we both said the same thing so i know that it wasn't my imagination. Ever since then we haven't seen it. Everybody thinks were crazy. I need an answer bc that was real. I haven't thought about it until a couple days ago when I visited my cousin a couple days ago.

Subject: The Hat Man in the Park
Well, this all happened last winter. I was 29 years old at the time. I had recently been over at a friends having some drinks and watching the Leafs game. Around 9:30 that night we had stepped outside for a smoke. When we seen these lights flying over the city. I have looked up these lights in a triangle and have seen a lot UFO pictures and videos on the internet involving them.
We had video taped them but they didn't show up in the playback. Then as time wore on in the night it had slipped my mind. I decided to leave his place sometime around 3 or 4:00 in the morning. So, instead of walking around a big park, known as Sunnidale Park, Barrie, Ontario, Canada, I decided to walk through the park as I have done so many times before. There is a big valley in the park that has walking trails in the forest. As I was making my way through the forest, half way through the valley and half my way through, I looked over to my left and seen in the full moon night, a shadow of man in an old school hat, kinda like the one the Undertaker† from WWF wrestling wears. And was just standing there staring at me. I have never been so afraid in my life. But all the time I was afraid, I was also relaxed; it was something I can't explain. I had turned away and it was gone. Unexplainable...how is it I didn't hear sticks on the ground breaking or ruffling around? To this day, I will not walk through there after dark. Just wondering if anyone has encountered something similar.
Thanks for the time!

Subject: My Experience with shadow people
It first started with the feeling of someone watching me but when I would look around I wouldn't see anyone. Then one day, as I was standing in the bathroom getting ready for work, I saw something out the corner of my eye passing the bathroom door. Keep in mind this was during the daytime hours and I was at home by myself. After it happened, I shook it off like it was just my imagination.
I started seeing this shadow person more and more often but only out of the corner of my eye. Then one night my daughter was sitting in the living room watching tv when she saw, what she described as, a flowing black mist up in the corner of the living room. I don't know if these two things were connected as we also had to have our house blessed for serious paranormal activity.
Out of everything I experienced in that house, the shadow people worried me the most. Not because I felt threatened by them, cause, honestly, I never did but because I had no idea what they were. Thanks to your site I now know that I am not the only person this was happening to.

Subject: Shadow people.
I was at my grandmother's house one night, as a child. I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night to see a figure with no definitive features looming over me. It stayed there, seeming to stare down at me for at least three minutes. Then, it walked to my great-grandmother's room and stood in the doorway for at least ten minutes. In an instant, it vanished into thin air. The next morning my great-grandmother told the family that she'd also seen the figure standing in her doorway in the middle of the night. She died a few months later.

Subject: Shadow people
I never new what they were called or that other people experienced what I had, thought I was the only one until yesterday.
I can't remember my exact age, but I believe I was between the ages 6-8. I slept on top of a wooden bunk bed my father made for me. The house was built around the 50's, it was close to the mid 90's. I remember climbing my bunks ladder and half way up I stared towards the hallway of my house, I saw a black shadow, flat and shaped like a person, short in height wearing a coat, and creepy enough a hat just like the hat man picture. I clearly remember it wearing a hat before seeing the hat man picture on Google, this lead me to believe what I saw was even more real then before when I was denying it a bit in my head.
I don't remember any other sightings as clear as that one, but I do remember having a few sighting before, always expecting to see one, looking from my room to the hallway even before the last hat man sighting.
I would like to add hat man was walking a dog and at the time he was only passing by facing forward I saw his left side, he was walking from the kitchen area to my bathroom close to my room. It happened in Maryland in a house I lived it as a child never saw one again. When I saw them it was never with the corner of my eyes, I always stared straight at them. Yes, hat man was walking a dog, if you know of any other encounters with a dog please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Subject: Shadow person in hospital
I am a nurse and I work nights on the Pediatric floor of a hospital. One night at around 0300 I was standing in the hall chatting with some coworkers. The light in the hall was on. I don't know why, but I had the feeling I was being watched from one of the darkened rooms at the end of the hall. In that room was a baby asleep in a crib, no one else. I looked down the hall into the room and saw a very black figure that was tall and thin standing against the wall. It was so unbelievably dark as the room itself was dark and it was MUCH darker. It appeared to be looking back at me and then immediately darted across the room and out of sight. It was very fast. I ran down to the room because I thought someone was in there and it freaked me out. I didn't turn on the light. The room was empty except for the baby, but had a very unnerving feeling to the air. I remember the hair on my arms standing up. I was glad that wasn't my patient that night as I did NOT want to go back in that room after that. My name is Christy and my email is email@example.com. Subject: Shadow People Account
I have had several encounters with these beings over the years. The first time was when I was 14 years old. I was sleeping in my bedroom around 3 am, when I suddenly woke up, like a sensory alarm went off. All the nerves in my body were tingling and I couldn't move. I saw a tall, thin, black hooded figure "glide' into my bedroom through the door. It approached the foot of my bed, maneuvering around the furniture, then turned and came right up to the side of my bed and bent over me, very close to my face. I could only move my eyes and was struggling the whole time to move. When it got about three feet from my face, it vanished instantly and I sprung up in the bed, as I could suddenly move again. Of course, the experience left me terrified and intimidated.
The second time, I was 16 years old. I was sleeping in the morning, when the familiar "alarm" went off and I suddenly woke up, with the same tingling sensation and unable to move. I saw the same type of black figure, but a little different, standing about six feet away from the foot of my bed. It didn't move this time, but it made an undistinguishable sound, like "ay". Then it disappeared, and I sprang up in bed. This time, I immediately wrote down the time and date of the incident. 9:15 am Tuesday Oct. 16th 1979.
Now, I'm 48 years old and I live in an old house in Florida. I have seen shadowy figures passing by doorways and windows. Also, a dark "smoke" appears and disappears very quickly, similar to the "smoke monster" on Lost. I don't fear whatever it is like I did when I was younger. It's more of a fascination now.

Subject: Figure in the Doorway.
I was in the third grade, so I had to have been at least nine, making this ten years ago. I was living in a house in Redding, CA at the time and my grandma had come to visit. She was on the bottom bunk and I was on the top. When I woke up that night it was either late at night, or early enough in the morning for it still to be very dark in my room. I can't remember why I woke up, but I climbed down the ladder and walked to the door to open it up. It was when I opened it that I saw it. It was like a freakishly HUGE man blocking my way. To me it seemed to almost reach the ceiling, and was extremely wide, wide enough so even if I tried I couldn't get through my doorway. It scared me so bad I couldn't scream, all I could do was slam the door shut. After slamming it I let out a very loud gasp and burst into tears, waking my grandmother. I couldn't tell her what it was, partly because I was crying to hard and partly because I was too scared. It took about thirty minutes to calm me down, and I can't remember what happened after that. I had to have fallen asleep. Ever since then I've seen many shadow people. Mostly just out of the corner of my eyes, though I did see one walk across the bathroom while I was taking a shower about two years ago (the door was glass, therefore, I could see through it). I have never seen one as close and as vividly as I did that night, though all seem to want to scare me.

Subject: Shadow male in 2000
After reading some of the stories on your site, I felt I could share my experience from the year 2000. I was 18 and had moved out of home; I was having quite a few problems: family, etc. Whist staying in this new home, I had regular occurrences of things darting around in my peripheral vision and the dishwasher, which we did not use, would go off by itself.
One night I came home from work in the early hours of the morning. I decided to close my bedroom door for the first time since staying there. My bed was against the wall and I was facing the wall. When I turned away from the wall, I saw this black figure of a male standing directly next to my bed. I was very scared and tried to discount what I was seeing, e.g.; moving back and forth in front of it, opening and closing my eyes (thinking my eyes were playing tricks) looking around the room for any other shadows and there were none. None of this worked and the figure stayed there! In the end I drew open the blinds and ran to my bedroom door and opened it.
After this experience, my house mates and I were very scared and decided to stay in the same room one night. After a while I stood up and said "That's it. I'm going back to my own room." Just after I said that, the dishwasher went off (we were all upstairs with the appliance was down stairs in the dark). I decided to stay in the same room as my room mates and that night my body burnt up inside.
I moved out, due to other circumstances, not long after but moved back in a couple months later after having more family troubles. I asked my friend if any unusual things had happened since I left and she said no. I only stayed two weeks and no experiences happened.
One thing I have noticed is... that people seem to have these experiences when they are having difficult times in their lives. I have not had anything like this happen to me since and still want answers!
I hope my story encourages other to come forward and share their experiences

Subject: Shadow People
In 2002, I built a new home in a new subdivision in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Because I work with energy fields, I had the land cleansed and blessed prior to breaking ground.
My family and I moved into the home in Dec 2002, and frankly, our lives were never unhappier because of an evil presence lurking in our brand new home. My business started to falter financially, I had a stroke, and my family was, just basically disintegrating in us living our separate lives.
Many times, as I was sitting in my breakfast nook, I thought I saw a figure moving up on the balcony overlooking the family room. This happened so often that I assumed my mind was playing tricks on me.
In 2006, my oldest son was home from college, and we were sitting in the breakfast nook, talking. All of a sudden, a light that was over our island, burst, and glass rained all over the kitchen. It was as if some unseen thing just exploded the light bulb..
Six months later, once again, my son was home and we were sitting in the breakfast nook chatting. When there was a lull in the conversation, there was a very loud moaning coming from upstairs in my son's bedroom. I asked him if he had left any music or TV on, and you could tell by the terrified look on his face that he didn't. Needless to say, he slept on the couch that night.
We ended up selling the house one year later, and on the night before the sale, my son's girlfriend was helping me clean it up. I had to run to my new apartment, and left her there alone. When I got back, she was on the front porch, crying, refusing to go back in. While she was alone in the house, a loud moaning sound once again, filled the entire house.
I don't know if we built the house on ancient burial lands, but I do know that there was a force in that development that was definitely unhappy. This was a small development with just 20 homes, but in the first 10 homes built, the homeowners either got sick, got a divorce, or ended up financially ruined.
Needless to say, I am glad I no longer live there. Building my dream home turned into my worst nightmare.
Please do not print my name.

Subject: my story
I was about 3 when I saw my first shadow person. I got up in the middle of the night and headed to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I didn't turn the light on because my mom was asleep in the living room. When I turned the corner, I saw figures playing cards at the table. At first I thought I was dreaming so I went ahead and went to the cupboard for a glass. As I passed the table, the figures disappeared. I turned and looked towards the sink and there was a figure coming out of it. I, being only a child, ran in terror. I woke my parents up and told them what happened. To my amazement, they weren't surprised. I had seen a little girl standing at the foot of my bed a few weeks before and my parents had already accepted that I must have the ability to see the unseen. I have since had many more sightings of shadow people.
I went to Gettysburg a few years ago with my choir class and saw many shadow people. It was clear daylight when we arrived at the battle field. The class got to walk around through the rocks and woods and explore this legendary area. My friends and I come upon this mound of rocks with one big rock next to it. The big rock had a hole in it that somehow I knew was a bullet hole. I turned to show my friends and instead saw about 10 shadows standing in the distance. As fast as they appeared, they faded. I asked our guide about the rock and she said that when they had first made it a tourist attraction they went through everything to try and find anything they could that may have been left over. She confirmed that there was once a bullet in the rock and I was shocked to have known something like that. As we were leaving I looked back at the field and saw numerous shadows. There were too many to count. They didn't fade, they just stayed there. Some were walking away others just standing there.
Every once in awhile, I will see a figure in the dark or out of the corner of my eye. I hear strange noises and have dreams about people's deaths that I later watched documentaries about. For the most part it doesn't freak me out because of my past but I know that there may be a time where I encounter one that isn't so "friendly".

Subject: Shadow person tale
Hi, my name is April and this is my Shadow person story.
So, back when I was in middle school, (I'm 20 now) Kaitlyn and I spent the night over at a girl named Brittany's house. It was around midnight as we had stayed up late watching movies and whatnot. Both girls had fallen asleep in their sleeping bags on the floor next to me but I wasn't tired so I lay there awake just thinking. For whatever reason, I looked out her bedroom door, which was open across the living room, where I saw a very tall dark cloaked figure with no features, just standing there in front of her parent's door (which was closed) facing my direction. This figure was skinny and looked to be 7 ft fall and it just stood there not moving but I saw it clearly and it scared me pretty bad. My heart felt like it dropped into my stomach. I attempted to wake up both girls by talking loudly but they must have been heavy sleepers so I shook Brittany and she woke up freaking out wondering what was wrong and I said, "Look, I just saw a ghost across your living room!" I looked over but the figure had vanished and Brittany was terrified of the idea of ghosts so she went and got her dad. He told us no one was in the living room. They were both sleeping and all the doors were locked.
I give you permission to post my story on the official shadow people archive

Subject: last year I saw a shadow person
I am a Christian and I pray in the morning and in the evening a lot for general protection.
When I first moved in this new apartment, I was hearing footsteps in the empty apartment upstairs, and the weird thing is that the footsteps would follow me as I went room to room. At first I got a little suspicious and thought someone upstairs had a camera and was a perv or something and could see when I went room to room. it was a bit unnerving. I decided to do my spiritual warfare prayers which I usually do on a daily basis for protection. As a Christian we are supposed to do that to keep evil entities from attaching themselves to us because the world is full of spiritual stuff we cannot see, as you know.
Any how I was doing my prayers in broad daylight when all of a sudden, right in front of me and a little bit higher off the ground, was a short hunch back female in nature hooded creature. I have seen spirits in my life but none like this; it was cloaked and all I saw was red slitted eyes that seemed to glow in the abyss of a black nothing under the hood. I did not get scared but surprised. At that point, I started to bind and cast out spirits in the name of Jesus.
I never saw it again nor did I hear the footsteps as much. I figured out it was coming from upstairs. When I looked up at it, it seemed to rise up a little and look at me. I felt the energy of it more than I could see an emotion. It looked shocked because it knew I was going to cast it out! It slowly faded backward and through the wall and that was the last I ever saw of it, Gone with the Wind. It was really ugly but I was unafraid because I knew it was a demon of sorts and that's it.

Subject: Our Dogs Barked at a Ghost in Our Living room
I have always been a skeptic about ghost and paranormal activity. Over the years we have had several strange occurrences that I just can't rationalize. This weekend was the final episode that has made me a firm believer that there are ghost in our presence.
We built our home in 1990. From the very first few years after moving in we began to experience strange happenings that we passed off as just strange and we would joke that we had a ghost. One incidence, I was having a party at my home. It was getting late and everyone was gathered in the kitchen saying their goodbyes. My daughter, who was 10 years old at the time, was out of town, so when I heard her voice calling me from another room quite loudly, I turned my head quickly to the sound. So did a friend of mine who asked with surprise, "Did you hear your daughter calling you?" We both ran into the other room only to see that no one was there. We both heard the same thing. No one else in the kitchen had heard it. This I can't explain.
Since then, I have experienced my nightgown being tugged from behind, beds shaking, voices of a love one who was not there, lights coming on by themselves, the sound of footsteps going down the hall and door knobs jiggling with nobody there. Most of these occurrences happened when we are sleeping and could be explained as our mind playing tricks on us. This weekend, however, I was out of town and my husband stayed home to work. Since I was not here, he let our two dogs, which are usually caged at night, sleep with him in our bed. About 5:00am the dogs woke him up barking and growling as they were staring towards our living room. My husband got up to look in the living room and he saw the silhouette of a man quickly walking away. Afraid of an intruder attacking him, my husband quickly found a weapon to defend himself. When he went back into the living room nobody was there. All the doors and windows in the house were locked and there was no sign of a break in. What my husband saw was a distinct black figure walking quickly across the floor and the dogs had seen it too. I now undoubtedly believe in ghosts.

My name is Carrie P. and this is my story about a shadow person I saw, as best as I can remember it.
I was up late one night in 1993 sitting in the living room playing sonic the hedgehog with the volume on mute because my husband was sleeping (he had to get up early). From where I was sitting I could see my dining room, the blinds were open and the street lights from outside were shining in. I could also see the hallway where the bathroom and bedroom were located. The bathroom light was on and the door was open so the hallway was bathed in light.
As I was sitting there I heard this growling sound coming from the dining room area. I looked over and saw a black silhouette of a person. I first thought it was my husband so I called out to it. It then began to stalk towards the right going towards the kitchen. It walked passed the dining room windows where I got a clear view of a seemingly solid black humanoid form. Its head was smooth as if bald and its form seemed to be devoid of clothes because it was also smooth. It had a distinct human form, but was ink black in color. It stalked through the kitchen, I couldn't see it but could hear it and I followed its progress in a state of shock. It then came out of the kitchen into the hallway passing the bathroom door blocking out the light; this thing was solid, you couldn't see through it. It entered my bedroom where my husband was sleeping and I was thinking that it wanted my husband. The thought that it wanted my husband jolted me out of my state of shock and I jumped up, ran into my bedroom and turned on the light. I had some idea that I was going to use God's power to fight this thing.
When I turned on the light my husband was sleeping in our water bed, the bed was still, and the Shadow Person was gone. When I think about this event I am creeped out by not knowing how long that shadow person stood there looking at me before it started growling and alerting me to its presence.

Subject: My shadow person experience
Well, it started when I was in 4th grades in... I think the year was 2002. I was in the basement playing an old racing game on the computer while waiting to leave for school.
Now, the layout of the basement was you go downstairs, walk into a doorway and head down a hallway to the room where the computer was located.
So here I was playing my games when I suddenly see a figure walk into the hallway from where I had previously entered. He walks in, stops, and looks my way. As soon as I saw him from the corner of my eye he vanished.
I remember distinctly he was wearing a fedora and a suit similar to a news journalist of the 1950s. I guess the closest thing I can compare it to is How superman dressed while disguised as Kent Clark.
I didn't really get scared. I just dismissed it as a shadow from the trees shining from the screen door upstairs. But I tried to debunk it, but I could not, so I figured I just simply seen a ghost.
I've never told anyone about it until I was 18.
I never saw it again after that. I always wondered what it was or why I hadn't seen it any other times.
So that's that, I give permission to put this on the site if you want.

Subject: Shadow Person/Persons
Hello. I work in a warehouse in Ohio. I have been here 15 years, and have always heard stories of shadow people that were here. I was never located in the buildings that they seem to be seen. That changed in 2004.
I have now since experienced these people or beings. I have sensed, seen and felt their presence. It is nothing that can be described. I believe there is more than one. We work 3rd shift, and almost everyone has either seen it or felt it. I have seen it 6 times that I can say for sure I saw it. I have "seen" it countless other times, as it is VERY quick, and does not like to be seen. It is usually hiding behind boxes and doorways, and keeps very hidden. It's almost like a mistake by it if you do see it.
It is completely black, sometimes inhuman for, other times a mass, and occasionally transparent. I have also seen it almost take the form of a giant bird. I have seen the hat man once, which was the best view I had of it, I was driving down an isle, and looked to my left, and seen it at the far end, just standing there looking at me, in the middle of the isle. By the time i realized what I saw, it was gone. I have NEVER sensed evil, more curiosity. It almost wants to you to know its there, by making noise. I have heard pallets fall that didn't, doors close, fences rattle, etc. There are so many stories I could not possibly type them all. After a while you just kinda accept their presence.
I wanted to mention 2 things to close. I find it odd that they are here, and I do feel they are trapped here. I also find it more odd that we'll will go weeks, and sometimes months with no activity, and then have a bunch of stuff happen at one time. I also want to say after the years of dealing with this, Hispanic people are a lot more prone to it than other races. I am not sure why, but usually if it is around, one of the Hispanic people will see it first, and sometimes are the only ones to see it. Just FYI.
You are more than welcome to use this and my info.

Subject: Shadow person experience as a child
When I was around the age of 12, I had witnessed my first and only experience with a shadow person. As a child I would constantly stay with my grandparents, because my mother worked late.
In my room, I slept on top of a water bed. My memory has faded since it has been over 14 years since the experience, but what I can remember is the brief contact with a supposed shadow person. I remember the sensation of being watched, but not at all afraid. As I turned (slowly) from the facing the right side of my bed down to the foot of my bed, anxiety began to increase. Once I was able to distinguish a figure standing there I froze in terror. The figure of a man, like a charcoal drawing slightly darker than the room around me, stared for a couple of seconds at me. It "felt" like a male presence. No hat or any other features; just a person. After, I would say about 15 seconds, the person bent down and extended both arms towards the bottom of the water bed and calmly pushed down into the bed. This caused the bed to move up and down. Although it seemed as though it was calmly pushing, it still had a tremendous force between each push, making me move up and down with the waves. This only lasted about 7 seconds. Immediately I had the feeling of "waking up" in which I was facing the right side of the bed on my left side again. However, the water bed was still moving up and down with a great force, but slowly calming down.
I immediately jumped out of bed, and focused on the door. I ran while avoiding looking at the foot of my bed. As I passed the foot of my bed, I felt an overwhelming sense of anxiety (like when you feel someone is behind you, when you are running up stairs). I ran into my grandparent's bedroom, saw both of them asleep and ran under the bed. I laid there for hours until I fell asleep. I don't know why I didn't wake them up.
Today I still wonder if I completely dreamt it but the bed moving up and down with such force makes me think differently. There is no way, me, as a child laying sideways could have made the water bed move with such force. There also was no one in the house that night other than my grandparents and myself.

Subject: SHADOW CAT/CREATURE
I was out in my back yard, bringing in the washing, in the early hours of the morning. Suddenly, a shadow darted towards me and, thinking it was a black cat, I jumped to one side to avoid it. It was immediately clear to me that there was nothing substantial there. The speed of its movement had made me jump so it took a while for my heart rate to settle. I put it down to a trick of the light/my eyes but after stumbling upon this site, I'm beginning to wonder.

PS. As an astrologer it is interesting to note that the last time Neptune was in Pisces (as now) we had the emergence of the Spiritualism movement and associated phenomena.

Subject: My LOOONG Experience with Shadow People
My name is Melissa, and for many, many years I have been dealing with nightmares, paralysis while laying in bed, and worst all, while being visited if, you will, by these "shadow people". Yes I must agree with most in saying that DARK, no doubt EVIL, entity appears in the shape of a man. I have even seen a hooded one.one that even said my name, MELISSA.
I don't know why they come around for sure but I have an idea as to what attracts them to me: SADNESS, ANGER, MISERY. things that I have been dealing with for the last couple of years. I believe that they feed off of this and when they come around. Their only job is to make me feel angry, depressed, sick of life, and even my children. The people I love seem to notice the change in me when they come around. I believe they are messengers from the Devil to help capture as many souls as possible. ONE of these shadows spoke to my son in his head and told him that he wanted his s(oul).
My children and I have seen many, many scary things and hold on to GOD in all these events. My kids have seen shadow MICE, shadow LIL PPL the size of my two year old...WELL A LOT, too much for me to even put into words
THE ONE THING that helps me personally; I light up 7 candles in the BATHROOM and pray in the name of GOD that this malignant evil LOST should leave our home and leave me and my family alone. I give you light I say! In the name of GOD!!! GO IN PEACE and leave this home in the name of the highest lord Jesus Christ!! Cuz again, I sleep with the light on, cuz as soon as it's OFF. THEY COME.
THE WORLD is at war a war for souls and the Devil is using demons and shadows to acquire them! Look to GOD always!! Keep a white candle light, as they HATE the light.

Yep - not a believer in shadow ghosts but believe I saws one a few weeks ago.
When I arrived home from work that evening, there were many people in the street a few houses down. It looked like people returning from a funeral (they acted somewhat sombre) but they were not dressed for such an occasion. Strange?
I heard from a neighbour prior to this event that the old lady living at that house didn't have much time left.
Anyway later that night as I was watching TV - I saw a shadow (human shape and size with no distinguishable features) walk past a floor lamp - I looked at it directly - it walked about 2-3 feet and lasted about 2-3 seconds. It appeared that it saw me and disappeared as quickly as it arrived. I wasn't scared - quite intrigued, Even my dog was looking at it.
I don't believe the old lady passed away that night as I saw a home care nurse at their residence a few weeks later - so I wonder if it was relatives visiting to say goodbye - she had an out-of-body-experience, saw me and went back on living again?
Who knows what happened but I definitely saw something. It has got me intrigued.

I was going to bed and I fell asleep normally, and I woke up around 3:00 AM and I looked over to find the time and I saw this thing leaning over my bed. It didn't have eyes but it looked like it was watching me. When it was there I could barely breathe and I felt suffocated and felt like I couldn't move, like my body was paralyzed. The shadow person was tall half slender but not fat; I could easily see the outline of the body and it had no eyes. It looked like it was a bit curious of me. I didn't see it vanish I just turned around and eventually fell back asleep. I felt terrified and scared of what I should do because I never believed in paranormal things so I felt a bit threatened.
I live in a apartment and I feel like it's watching me every time I'm in my room, and it's only in my room. My friends think my room is haunted. One saw the door open, another saw things moving and I hear bangs everyday.

Subject: Shadow people appear every day...catrina
I have had experiences with shadow people as far back as I can remember. Only one has ever felt threatening. It was tall with faint red eyes and a sort of top hat on. it did not do anything, just stood there and then left when another appeared near me and pointed at me then at the wall where the threatening one had appeared from, I was about 10 years old then, and when the threatening one had left the other came next to my bed and watched me and made me feel comfortable until I fell asleep. It was about the same size as me (a ten year old girl) and had what looked like a long dress on but she was blacker than black so it was very hard to tell. It scared me horribly the first few times they showed up.
Since then (5 years later) she has come almost every night and whenever I'm alone to see me and she has recently brought another along, the new one seems to be male very tall with a cloak on, silver eyes like broken glass and what looks very much like smoke near his feet, I call the girl, Annabelle and the boy, Aerron and the both seem to like their names. They comfort me when I get depressed and hang out with me just like my real friends when I'm happy. They protect me. I see others all the time who walk with me or just watch me even when other people are around.
My sister sees them too and she hates them and thinks they are all evil. She said that around the same time I had my first experience with mine she also had an experience with one. She clamed it was smoky looking with bright red eyes and was blacker than anything she had ever seen. She says it felt like pure evil and was following her for about 10 minutes until it jumped into a tree and knocked a tree branch on her. She still has the scar from where the tree branch hit her. My experiences are good and hers are bad. I also know others who have had experiences with them and it seems as if their personalities have an impact on how frequently they see them and if it is good or bad.

Subject: A True story
My story began when I was twelve, over a simple dream. I never believed in anything more then life leads to death. Soon I would learn that I am not sure its just death.
The dream is one I would never forget because ever since then I have been haunted in my mind. Haunted by a sound that this shadow forces me to hear, and it only happens when it is near. The sound is not a voice, and nothing that I can simply describe. The dream involved me outside of my old house on Coolidge drive, and when I say old house it means I no longer live there. This is a street in Portsmouth New Hampshire. This was back in 2003 some where between May and July. Any way in my dream I walked outside onto my front porch where a bench awaited me. I sat on this bench and looked across the street. Who did I see but a kid and soon after seeing him I saw two cars approaching each other at a great speed. They collided with in seconds. A flash occurred and I awoke.
The morning I awoke for some reason I actually went outside, and who did I see but the same kid I saw in my dream. Ever since I saw this kid, my life changed and by changed I meant I heard the sound. The kid's name is Josh. He no longer talks to me. That night would be the first night I saw my shadow. I awoke to the sound, that haunts me to this day. I awoke with this silhouette of a human standing over me. I full blown dark mass. I thought it was my parents, or my sister. However when I looked deep into it I saw no human at all no face no body just a shadow. I can never explain this to any one because when it comes down to it, they think I am simply crazy. I dont even care any longer. I need to get this out to some one because even through all my research I can never find any answer onto why, I must be haunted by this thing. I want to know what it can do to me, what it wants from me. I used to fear it, but now I am just annoyed. I am now twenty years of age, and even though I moved to Florida almost a couple thousand miles away from my old house, It still, some how, found me here.

Subject: My Shadow Person Experience
This is an experience that happened multiple times, in fact so many, that instead of terror, I would feel anger when I saw him.
It started when I was 14. I woke up for some reason and I couldn't move. I was absolutely paralyzed but I could look around, think, blink; just not move my body. I looked towards my feet and at the foot of my bed was a man, all black, with a black top hat on. I couldn't see any details because he was completely dark. He just stood there not moving at all. I don't know how long I stared at him, but I finally was able to move. I sat up quickly and he was gone. There were other experiences too, and my brother also saw him. We never spoke of it until one day we were sitting around telling stories about all the weird phenomena that happen in our house and I mentioned the man with the top hat. I asked him to describe what he saw and he describes what I saw including the hat.
The last time I braved sleeping in the basement I had the same experience as before. Woke up paralyzed, there he was. But, I had become accustomed to it and started to experiment a little to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I would make sure I could look around, blink, close my eyes for a few seconds, look, he would still be there. I would try and move and finally the last time I forced myself up and he disappeared. I saw the man so much that I refused to sleep in the basement anymore. Even into college when i would come home I would sleep on the couch upstairs. Myself, my friends and brothers all had weird experiences in the basement besides the shadow man. Light bulbs would unscrew, sounds of footsteps upstairs or walking down the stairs when nobody was home, doors opening and closing, a ghost of an old woman and I even got punched in the face once when I was in bed. I thought it was my brother, but then I realized that I had bolted the door from the inside irrationally thinking that that would keep out the shadow man. That night I slept with a bible. Yeah, I've seen one. He never hurt me, or interacted. Just looked at me.

Subject: my shadow experience
It happen like 17 yrs ago. The house was dark when I went to the restroom and I left the door open so there was a window down the hall to where you can see light from outside. Well, when I was taking a piss in the restroom, I had a sense that something was behind me, so I turn around (still pissing) and saw a shadowy figure standing at the door way. It had a human figure and was pitch black solid and its height block the door way so it stood tall.
It stood there a few seconds just looking at me and since I was still using the restroom I didn't run, I was very scared and instead of yelling or anything like that I just finished (pissing) and when I turn to look again it vanished. So I went back to bed.
Then that morning I died but didn't know how long. I just heard a faint voice and followed its sound till it got louder, and woke up to my wife, at the time, slapping me hard to wake up. She said I wasn't breathing or responding to nothing for a few minutes. So I still curious what this shadow figure is. Was it the "Death" himself or something else?

Subject: Hi, this is my shadow being story which is 100 percent true.
Ok first I would like to say you have my full permission to use this story on your great site. And my name is Jude Peter Lacey, I am 20 years old and my date of birth is 19/02/1991.
Ok, when I was at the age of 11 or 12 years old I lived in a very haunted house. One night my father said it's your turn to wash the dishes tonight so I went down stairs to the kitchen and began. On the wall in front of me just above the sink was a mirror, as I was washing the dishes I felt an un-easiness in the room. It was like someone was close and watching me, and the air was cold. It was about 9pm at this time. I kept looking around behind me expecting someone or something to be there but I couldn't see anyone, so I carried on washing the dishes trying not to pay any attention to the un-easiness around me. I then looked up in front of me into the mirror to see someone standing right behind me; it was black like a silhouette. I could make it out clearly, and from the outline it looked like it was wearing a suit. When I saw it a huge shiver went up my spine, I felt completely shocked. I spun around to face it and it had gone, so I ran upstairs and got my brother to stand in the kitchen with me whilst I finished washing up. To this day I still remember it clearly. I've seen shadows on walls before but nothing like this.
Anyway thank you for reading, and if you have any questions feel free to email me at - email@example.com thanks for your time.

Subject: Inspector Clueso!
Over the years I have always remembered my first encounter with the shadow figure I have always thought of as Inspector Clueso. And had always wondered if I had really seen what was so ingrained in my memory! Many years later I would receive confirmation of this that would floor me!
I was a very young child not exactly sure of my actual age but I would think I was around six or seven. It was evening and dark outside. I was in our family room at the front of our home and as I looked back towards the kitchen through the dining room I saw a black shadow walk from one side of the kitchen to the other side disappearing then out of my line of vision. What struck me as odd not only about seeing such a thing was how he seemed to be dressed. He was a totally black shadow but you could tell he wore a trench coat and inspector clueso type hat.
As I have said during my life I have thought about this strange encounter from time to time. But as the years rolled by life happens and childhood memories fade. I grew up and have children of my own. Never wanting to scare my children and always wanting to protect them I have never told them anything that might upset them about the strange or otherworldly things I have experienced.
This brings me to my high school daughter who came home from school and relayed this amazing story. Before this point my daughter never believed in anything paranormal. She road home from school on the school bus which dropped her off down the block just past our home. She said as she road by our home she saw a man or a black shadow of a man just standing in the pine trees next to our home. He was just standing there looking at the bus as it went by. She did a double take but when she looked back he was gone. She then went on to describe what the man had looked like and yes what she described was my Inspector Clueso.

I've never been the one to believe in the paranormal, just kinda tried to never think about it. That was true up until a couple years ago.
I was around 19 and I was at a buddy's house watching TV with a couple people. This was only like the second time I had been over there and from the moment you walk in you get this odd feeling. It was starting to get late and everyone started passing out, pretty soon I was the only one left in the living room. Now for you to understand what I saw and how I saw it, I have to describe the layout of the room.
I was on the couch with the widescreen directly in front of me. To the right of the couch was a table with a lamp, the lamp reflected light on the hallway that was to the right of me as well. The hallway was long and started precisely where the couch was and went straight towards the rooms, the lamp was the only light on besides the TV and pretty much lit up the entire hallway. Anyways, I was sitting there watching some random movie when I heard a rumbling noise in one of the rooms. I didn't think much of it.
Approximately 1 minute later I caught something out if the corner of my eye down the hallway. I slowly turned expecting it to be a cat; he had a couple of them. What I saw put me into total shock. The shadow was about 6 ft and what looked like a man. The head, shoulders, arms, everything was visible. It did seem a bit darker than a usual shadow. It just walked right past me in between the lamp and the couch coming down the hallway. I couldn't move and for the next 10 minutes I stood motionless, hearing noises behind me in the kitchen, the direction it had headed. I'm the type of guy to come to a reasonable explanation but couldn't!! It was for sure a shadow of a human and there was no way it could make that shadow without passing between the lamp and hallway, soon after I grabbed my keys and left. I refuse to go back to that house to this day.
The shadow person seemed overall peaceful, I mean it passed 5 feet in front of me. It just disappeared into the dark. I know what I saw and I am now a believer that there are more than just us out there.

Subject: my experience with the realm
I had a very short experience with the shadow people years ago and had dismissed it mostly with all the night terrors I used to have as a child.
I'm 27 years old and about ten years ago I visited the shadow realm in my sleep. I was being awoken by my partner at the time to get up for work and I remember being in that state where your not fully awake and still dreaming. You're semi aware of the reality of being woke up but the dream is still that much stronger.
I was in a dark misty place......almost like really dark fog. There were shadowy figures with glowing red eyes that almost seemed to look burningly right through me. My first instinct was fear. And then it happened.one of them spoke (in English even). He/she/it said that I was in the shadow realm and that they were the shadow people and that I was welcome there and in no harm and had no need to fear, but that if I choose to stay that I could never leave.....so as much as I believe that we see these shadow people all around us, I also believe they live in their very own realm or dimension. If we cannot stay there (the shadow realm) without being stuck, is it not also possible for them to get stuck here?
I'm wondering if this could be why the visions are so quick that they are simply crossing into or through our dimension. So I finally googled shadow people and found this website. Although my story has few details, it seems a little more involved with the shadow people and their world than just a random hallucination.
Although I feel it necessary to point out that since I was a child I've had random hallucinations auditory, olfactory, and visual and, still on occasion, experience this and with my age, have begun experiencing the epilepsy and seizures that my mother and her brother and there father have passed on to me in genes. So maybe I'm just that much more "open minded" to these experiences and maybe my brain makes them up, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who believes in these beings and I guess the biggest thing that I've wanted to stress here it that there seems to be no reason to fear them or to fear that they will hurt you. I first feared them and they wanted me to feel calm and secure but also to know that it was not safe for me to stay in their realm should I wish to return to my own.....that seems to me like a being that is helpful not hurtful!

Subject: My experience
My story is coming in a little late, but I still remember the full detail of it and I give full permission to have it uploaded.
It was at 9:45 am as I went outside and sat on the bench to smoke my morning cigarette before I had to get ready for work. I was sitting there watching the squirrel's running and jumping on the opposite side of the yard, all the sudden, two of them stopped and ran straight up the trees as if scared. Confused as to why, I looked around in wonder and saw no threat (at first), so I continued to look at the wood line across my yard and saw this black void between the trees. I had my eye on it for about 3 seconds before it moved between the trees! I could see a very dark grey almost black hooded figure walking in my woods! It was so visible when it moved and I was expecting to hear the leaves crumple on the ground below it......nothing!
I wasn't scared of it, it knew I saw it dead on and was watching, but it wasn't scared of me and I really don't think it cared that I saw it! After it passed behind the third tree, it was gone, it just dissipated; vanished like a 'now you see me, now you don't' kinda thing. When I saw it, there wasn't a hatred or a cowardly feel, it was more of a "oh, you've come back" surprised feeling. It was hooded, and about 5'10" - 6' tall. This happened 1 1/2 wks ago.

Subject: Shadow girl?
Hi, I would like to recount a strange encounter I had a few months back for your archive, my name is Marcus, I am a 37 year old male and I live in England.
I was settled down in bed at around 1 AM trying to get to sleep when something made me open my eyes, it was far from dark as it was a full moon so I could see the room quite clearly, the door to my room is at the end of my bed and there before it was a formless black shadow, at first I thought it was a trick of the moonlight glowing around the bedroom, until it MOVED.
As the shadow slid slowly and ever so silently around the foot of the bed it seemed to gather into a humanoid shape around 5 foot tall, it had a stocky body which was possibly hunched over and it seemed to be wearing a dress, I couldn't see if it had legs from my prone position in bed, its head was a mass of long thick matted hair and it had long arms terminating in thin fingers - these were outstretched before it like a sleepwalker or something.
All this seemed to happen in mere seconds, this intruder was between myself and the door, I emitted a scream and without thinking leapt from my bed and rushed towards the dark shape, but as I reached its position it seemed to simply fade away to nothing, leaving me grappling with the door.
To date, that was my only experience with the shadow girl creature, maybe I scared it as much as it scared me.

Subject: shadow people
I felt compelled to write this short story about the shadow people my daughter is experiencing. She has seen several of these shadow people. We had paranormal spars group out in Dec 09 to investigate. They found several things, but did not see any shadow people during their investigation. My daughter has heard and seen 3 young children in her room. These are more like ghosts with features. The other week she was leaving for work as she works evenings and went to back her car up as usual. We live on a dead end road with no lighting. A few minutes after she left she called the house. I thought she had forgotten something for her work. When I answered the phone she said "Mum are you sure you locked the door when I left?" I said "Yes, why?" and she said she was about to reverse and looked in her rear view mirror and saw a shadow person who moved slowly into the woods. It scared her, in fact she said her jaw dropped!!
The other week she was at our neighbors, whose home was also included in the investigation. She opened a bedroom door and saw a shadow person. It had big eyes and a huge smile. She said she feels like she doesn't even know if this was real as it was so bizarre. She feels like the shadow behind her car was definitely no her imagination and the ghost children in her room were definitely not her imagination. I am just curious about this subject now and am going to start researching this subject more.

Subject: Shadow person experience
I never spoke of this because I thought people would call me crazy and I'm not O.K. I just want a explanation to things .
Three yrs ago around 1:00 AM, I was getting a drink from my kitchen and by the time I reached by the fridge something strange happened. It felt like I wasn't in the world anymore but I can see my kitchen and everything else. I realized I was floating because I looked for my body and it wasn't there. So I looked at the fridge and no physical presence of me was there either. I kept thinking to myself am I dreaming? I knew I walked into the kitchen to get a drink. Seriously at that moment I thought I discovered some kind of ability. When I told my self to go to a certain direction I would go that direction , it was like the world around me was moving instead of me and I could still see things as if I was in my own body . I moved around this wall that separated the kitchen and living room and started moving to the hall way in this weird not too slow but weird kind of way like I was deff floating. When I was finally by the bathroom door I saw Something that looked like smoke but really black coming off an object that looked like it was sitting down facing the wall. I thought it didn't see me but right then and there it just came to attack me and it just surprised me so much I didn't know what was going on and I saw it's something like red for a sec like eyes and it was looking directly at my eyes and I couldn't move. Something kept telling me to not look. This happened quickly and then I just snapped out of it and I realized I was in the kitchen next to the fridge where I should have been. I told a few people about see the reaction and they looked at me crazy, so I didn't know how to talk about it. This only happened to me one time. I searched Google for shadow people and a lot of things popped up and the picture that caught my attention was a black figure resembling death.
Does any one know why this has happened?

Subject: My experience with "shadow people"
First, let me tell you how happy I am to have found this web site and to be able to share my childhood experience with these 'figures', as I have called them when describing them to my parents and my family. I am presently 53 years old and my encounters happened in my early childhood - perhaps from age 4 through 10. I can't say exactly the time frame. I know as I got older, the contact stopped.
We lived in a brownstone type house, attached on both sides. Our home had 'railroad' rooms, meaning that the home had a long shape. The living room was connected to the dining room, which was connected to my room, which was connected to my parents' room, with sliding doors in between. My room had no windows. The only light came from my parents room. I would lay in my bed at night and open the sliding doors to one side so as to be able to see the bay windows in my parents' room. There was also a fan in the center bay window, and on hot summer nights, that was the only breeze in my room. Almost every night, as I lay looking at those windows, a black silhouette would very slowly rise up out of my parents' bed, and very slowly glide toward me, bend down as if to tuck me in, then, disappear. No contact was ever made. The figure would always disappear as it was bending. I thought this was a normal phenomenon and I was never afraid. I was a little girl and I thought of these 'beings' as angels. The feeling that would come over me was a feeling of being protected and safe.
Recently, someone told me about a web site for a radio station that aired programs of strange phenomenon (I forgot which station). On that web site I started reading about these "Shadow People." I had never even thought that they had a name! I read other peoples' accounts and I realized that I am not alone. Our stories differ a bit, though. Mine don't have red eyes, or hats, or evil tendencies. However, the silhouettes that I have seen match some of the accounts I've read.
I just thought I'd share my story with you. Any feedback would be welcomed.

Subject: where do i find answers
I am looking for help and don't know where to look.
About two years ago, I woke in the middle of the night to find a figure standing at the foot of my bed; this was not a dream. The figure in question was tall, large build, black man in a colorful robe. He smiled then disappeared and I have not seen him since. I did not feel in danger although it was a shock but then I felt at peace and feel asleep
My research led me to believe this was my Guardian Angel/spirit guide which gave me an enormous feeling of assurance. I had not really thought about it until last night.
At just gone midnight, I was woken by my wife screaming and very upset. She is adamant that a figure of a man was standing over her, staring. Having experience similar, I believe her. She was so shaken up, she could not sleep and insisted we check the house, every room, every cupboard. Could this be her Guardian Angel? I don't think so. There are too many differences between our experiences.
If this is, as I suspect, a shadow person. I have questions. Does my wife need protection? How to protect her? Can the Guardian Angel protect her? How to contact my or her Guardian Angel?
I forgot to mention (in my previous email), when my Guardian Angel appeared, the room temp didn't seem to change. Last night the room was very hot. Is this relevant?

Subject: Sleep paralysis version of shadow creatures
I must say, as a lot of people state in their stories, that they have seen these beings whilst actually, physically, completely awake. I cannot say I have. However, I can provide justification for the sightings of cloaked or hooded small shadow creatures at about 3-4ft tall whilst paralysed in the hypnogogic or hypnopompic stages of sleep paralysis. I was certainly lucky enough to see these creatures from the word go, not as a periphery vision, but in fact face on, where about 4-5 of them would run at me from my doorway on a recurrent basis. I know there has to be some truth in this dependent on the sheer number of similar and if not identical sightings of these things from SP (sleep paralysis) sufferers, and their accounts like mine of having your eyes open, and being able to scan your physical surroundings exactly how they are normally.
At this point in time I believe I was around 8 years old+. I also had the classic symptoms of having one cheekily perch itself on top of my chest, and have annoying little pokes against my back whilst trying to get to sleep, and the running away if I witnessed one on my bed or trying to hold my legs down. Taking into account my age at the time, I am unable to remember any conversations with this being, but it is my belief that it didn't communicate and could only make weird inhuman moans which I did not recognise resembled anything human or animal. A good book for SP sufferers is one I've just finished reading Louis Proud, Dark Intrusions. What was very weird about this is Louis states the correlation this has with poltergeist activity, and my mum heard loud running up the stairs when I was only a baby. I believe these to be the early warnings of these creatures, also a sign of heightened geo-magnetic activity and we had a man die in our house before us, as well as these experiences happening just after my aunties tragic suicide. I Hope this helps other people, as I was able to overcome my SP experiences at a young age and haven't had a hallucination since.
I do give my consent for this to be published on your official shadow people archive.

Subject: My Shadow Person Experience
The incident that happened to me has bothered me since it happened approximately one year ago. My husband was out of town and I was alone in our house with my dog, a poodle named Blackie. I had just arrived home from school and was upstairs in my office reading mail and preparing lessons for the next day. Suddenly, wind or something slammed open the back door which opens to our garage. The garage was closed at the time. I was afraid but I went to the stairs and look down to the hallway on the main floor. On the hallway wall I saw the shadow of a person. I did not see an actual person but a shadow which only had the head and upper body. However, I did not feel terribly upset which now I consider rather bizarre. You would think that I would be very afraid but I didn't feel afraid at all. My dog did not bark, which is unusual because if anyone come anywhere near the house, he barks profusely. I looked down and when I looked up, the figure was gone. Finally I decided to go down stairs because the back door was open. No one was there. The door was open and I closed it. I looked around and saw no one. To this day, I still remember this incident and cannot explain what happened.

Subject: My shadow person experience.
Hi, my name is David. I'm writing to tell you about my own shadow person experience. I'm 30 years old now, but this happened in my early teens.
I "woke up" in the middle of the night one night. I was conscious and aware of my surroundings, but I couldn't move or talk. After a few seconds of being "awake" I felt like I was being watched. I looked around to find out what it was and saw the shadow person standing in my door. It was pitch black and very vague. I couldn't make out any details, but the silhouette was obvious. It was a little taller than 6 feet and had a thin, wiry physique.
As it entered my room it was a bit off with its aim. If it was a normal person its shoulder would have hit the door frame, but instead his arm just kind of flowed around it and re-solidified on the other side. The creature gave off a very menacing feeling as it slowly approached my bed. I definitely felt like it wanted to hurt me. The closer it got to my bed the more I panicked. He made his way to the bed and climbed up onto the foot of my bed on all fours. By that point I was so terrified that if I could have spoken I would have been screaming for help as loud as I could. He just sat there crouched on the foot of my bed for a few seconds while he said something to me, although I couldn't understand him. Then he just kind of absorbed into the air.
Once he was gone I could finally move so I ran as fast as I could for the front door and slept in the car for the rest of the night. I never saw him again. Personally, I think I was probably only half way awake and still able to dream. Dream or not though, it does give me the creeps to learn that so many other people have also seen what I thought was just my own personal nightmare.
