Subject: Here's one for ya

I was working in a butcher shop (as a butcher) about 3 years ago now... I kept seeing flickers and shadows from the corner of my eye, very frequently, and they seemed to be humanoid in shape. Sometimes I'd work late, and I saw these things once or twice a week for awhile. I tried to find a rational explanation for it: Being tired, staring down at my butcher block, alone, thinking too much... But the movement of these things were so deliberate it was very hard to explain. I really felt like there was someone else there. The shadow would always run and evaporate as fast as I could look at it.

One day I was cutting up chickens with a co-worker. Then I suddenly saw a shadow "run" from the meat room door to the back of the room, straight down the path where anyone coming in the door would walk and then it disappeared. It moved fast, almost like speeded up, like a tape or video.

My co-worker turned around at the same time, obviously seeing something. I asked him what he saw, realizing I at last had a witness, and he said, "I saw some kind of shadow figure or something run from there to over there." Now, this guy was a simple dude. He couldn't just make something up that easily. He saw what I saw, no doubt.

So unless you want to explain this as a mass hallucination, there was REALLY something there. After Bob and I both saw that thing together at the same time and discussed it, I ceased to see it anymore in that place. However, 3 years later I was working in a different butcher shop and the subject of ghosts and the paranormal came up between me and another butcher. This guy said he once saw TWO such beings in his house when he was trying to take a nap on his living room couch. It seemed they were watching him, and then one said "He looks alright to me." And both figures simply walked towards a wall and dematerialized. I haven't seen or heard of anything else since, but I'm suddenly starting to realize how widespread such encounters with shadow beings are, and how similar these experiences are. It's very weird, creepy and interesting. I hope someday we can explain it and we will learn something new.

Subject: My Encounter

I was trying to go to sleep, but I simply couldn't. Being very bored, I laid on my bed. I wasn't expecting anything, and suddenly an extremely dark shadow, (the shadow was not a silhouette of anything, however), appeared out of the corner of my eye. The shadow was on the carpet and stayed for a couple seconds until it rapidly disappeared into the shadow of a rocking chair. I was so frightened! A couple seconds after its exit, I heard a click on my desk in my bedroom. And under the desk something shadowy was moving. It was moving like it was filling with more shadows. My bedroom door was open so across from it, I also saw a shadow shaped like a circle that kept growing bigger. I commanded the shadow to leave and stop frightening me. It left after I commanded it to leave twice.

Subject: My encounter

One Night in Wisconsin I woke up about 3ish... And there it was... In the corner of my room I saw a shadow. It had the shape of a woman and it had a hood on and seemed to be outlined in a dark grey and I could see the black when it was black in my room. It was floating about 6 inches off the ground. It was wearing a gown and it seemed to be staring at me and breathing deep as if angry. Then it started to move close to me. I was scared shitless, I could hardly breathe and I barely could move. I tried to scream but nothing would come out of my mouth. So I hid under my covers and fell asleep and when I woke up, I had Xs and slashes scratched into my stomach. I didn't see it leave but I do remember being sore when I woke up.

Please use this on your site... I think it's great what you're doing. I think everyone should be aware of the creatures and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has seen this... And a question I've also have seen a small child like shadow... Idk if that means anything.

Subject: Seeing Shadow People

Hello.

I am 12 years old. I've seen many shadow people and I don't know why. I found out that they were called shadow people because on Google I looked up "Ever seen a figure in all black?" Then there were choices and I clicked "What are shadow people?" It told me everything.

This is what I saw.

I was on my computer talking on the phone like at 12:00 or 1:00 A.M. My T.V was on and sometimes I turn around to watch it. So I turned around and I saw this black figure walking right across my living room. Then it went away. I told my friend that I was on the phone with what happened and she got scared. Then my friend said she had to get off the phone. So that made me more scared because my mom was sleeping and I was alone. So I turned off my T.V and turned off the lights except for one because when I turned it off it turned back on so I ran upstairs to my room and I left my light on all night.

This is the second one I saw which was scarier. I was on my computer and it was like 1:00 or 2:00 A.M I turned my head for a second and I saw the figure look at me for like 5 seconds and It went away. It looked like it went into my bathroom but I am not sure. That time I didn't go upstairs. I stayed on the computer. I talked to my friend a lot about it because she said she sees them to. She said that every time she walks upstairs she sees a figure dressed in all black. She said that one time she felt like it was chasing her up the stairs.

I've seen more when I am in my room trying to sleep.

I asked my older brother if he seen Shadow people, He said he saw one walk back in forth in the living room. That was the same spot where I seen one. He said that he sees them a lot from the corner of his eyes one time it made him run into his room. I told my mom and she said she never seen any Shadow People so then I asked her if she seen any weird things and she still said no.

That is what I seen I haven't seen more yet but I probably will.

Subject: Shadow People

Well, I've seen shadow people at least, like, three times that I can really remember. The first time I was very young and I just got my mom angry. She went upstairs to go and sleep and I decided to go clean up the house so she can forgive me. Half way through, I thought I saw and heard my brother say that, ‘he was going to go wake up my mom’. After telling him to leave me alone, I turn away from him to continue my work. He (what I thought was my brother) turned completely black and DASHED up the stairs. I tried to catch him but I just brushed his leg and blacked out for less than a second. I turn around to see my actual brother looking at me with a very confused look on his face. We moved a few years later. (Not because of that incident, dad got a better job)

The second time was, without a doubt, the creepiest moment. This was a different house too. I went to sleep like every normal night. I sleep with my doors closed and my lights off, so my room is beyond pitch black. However, at one point in the night, at like around 3am or 4am, I wake up (no idea why) to see what I thought [at the moment] was my brother. Being a bit peeved and really confused as to why he woke me up, I yelled at him and threw my pillow at him and nothing happened, the creature didn't flinch or move. The creature was a few feet away from me; staring directly at me. I was confused because when I looked at the creature, he was wearing a trench coat and a top hat. This creature was so black; I didn't know something could be so black. After a while, I just didn't know what to do (I sure as hell wasn't going to get up and turn on the lights because he was directly in my way) so as any 16 year old man would do, I hid under my covers. After what seemed like half an hour, I looked up and it was gone.

The third time and the last time was really quick. I was driving back home after a Halloween party I saw a black figure run faster than humanly possible. I blinked and it was gone.

I’m 18 now and haven’t seen any more. I don't know what to make of it

Subject: Shadow man stayin near the bed

A couple of months ago, during midday, I was lying in my bed when a sudden need of sleep came upon me.

I think that I fell asleep because things turned slow and dizzy, but the next time I opened my eyes it felt like some time had passed and something woke me up. I slowly turned my head to the left side to see what time it was, but then I saw with the corner of my eye, something black entering through the door (that is in front of my bed).

I felt panic star to come to me and suddenly I was unable to move my head any further; I became paralyzed. The thing, a dark smoky man-shaped thing, moved into my sight and stood there staring at me for a moment. I was really scared but for some reason I began to fall asleep again. When I opened my eyes again I didn´t see anything, but I was all sweaty and scared.

The phenomena hadn´t repeated since.

Please do not use my name or email address.

I have been seeing the shadow people for as long as I can remember. The first experience I remember clearly was when I was about eight or so. My bedroom had a long slanted closet that directly faced my bed.

I remember seeing a tall shadow person, standing in my closet, staring at me. It never moved and I don't recall how it left. At first, I was scared to the point of not being able to move but over the course of several visits, I learned how to pretend I didn't see it, or sometimes 'them'.

Its not like I see them everynight, but I've had quite a few visits; at least 30. I saw them most as a child and an early teen. I can go for years without a visit. It almost always scares the hell out of me, but they usually only watch me.

In my early 20's, I had a visit, one night, by 4 or 5 of them. While they usually scare me, I never had the feeling like they would or could harm me before. While they usually keep distance, they got very close and were touching me, actively trying to scare me. This incident lasted about 20 or 30 minutes and instead of fading or my usual 'not remembering' how they left, I actually remember one of them opening my door, waving at me and shutting my door.

What scares me the most is now that I have kids, I've seen them around again. Usually around my youngest daughter. While they scare me, they will not torment my kids. I've chased them out of her room, screaming, cursing and challenging them.

Even that only keeps them away for a while.

Subject: my shadow person experience

I saw my first (and hopefully only) shadow person on in the very early hours of September 5, 2011. I remember the date because I had returned the day before from an overnight at the famed Axe Murder House in Vallisca, Iowa. I don't know if something followed me home, or if i was just hyper aware from the experience and thus open to seeing such a thing, but anyway here is my story.

At the time I was living in my friend's basement. At night, a light from the neighbor's back yard would shine in on the enclosed back porch/mudroom and down my steps and kind of faintly illuminate things in my space. The night I saw the shadow person, I woke up to a dark human shaped figure standing in front of my stairs to the left side of my bed (in between my bed and the stairs). It wasn't a shadow on the wall coming from upstairs, it was IN the room. It was very clear because of the light from upstairs. As soon as I saw it, I turned and switched on my light, at which point, it wasn't there anymore. My cat saw it as well and was looking up and around in the corners of my room, glancing from one corner to the next (she had never acted like this before).

I have seen ghost before, usually at night at which I just mumble, "go away" and then go back to sleep. This night, even though I didn't see it move towards me, no glowing red eyes anything like that, I was so unnerved and uncomfortable with the situation that I headed upstairs to bunk with my roommate. The next day, after finding out that my roommate had felt 'watched' the day before, I came home from work with some sage for smudging (which I later found out was the wrong kind of sage, LOL), and smudged the crap out of the whole house while telling whatever it was to leave. It worked, thankfully, (regardless of my mistake) and I never saw or felt the thing again while living in that house.

It was the summer of 2006 and my cousin, brother and I were walking on a back road late at night. When all of a sudden I turned my head around and there it was, a "Shadow Person". It was tall and bulky all the way around it and so very black, even for night, it was darker than the night sky.

To see if I was just seeing this thing and not just making it up, I told my cousin and brother to see what was behind us (Yes, they both saw it as well) and I started walking faster and faster and it was catching up to us then it vanished and ever since that day, never seen anything like it.

Hello, I've been reading your stories about shadow people I didn't even know what they were called until today!

I guess my story fits here. It was a year ago or so. I was sitting outside smoking a cigarette when I kept feeling like I was not alone. I didn't think much since we live in the country. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I saw something big and black standing about 100ft in front of me. It was just black, almost creepy I could see it since it was so dark out. It looked at me with bright red eyes for just a few seconds and was just gone. Didn't move or anything other then its head to look at me. But I was so freaked that I just looked at it.

Then just last week, my brother in-law (who lives on the same street we do) said, he was sitting at his house and kept seeing shadowy figure moving around by the street. But he could not tell what it was other than he knew there was no one out there. Then, just two nights ago, I was sitting outside again and could hear all the dogs barking down the road. As I looked up, I saw this big dark shadow gliding/moving fast but not like a normal human. It looked as if it had, like, a long coat with a hood on it. As it went by houses, the dogs began to freak out. But it just kept going down the road until I could not see it anymore. All I did was move to try and see it better but no way I moved made it any less dark, even when it went in front of the house light across from my house.

You can post this up on your site if you want.

Addendum

I've never seen a cemetery but my husband grew up on the same street and has said there is a small cemetery somewhere in the woods. But there is a story that and older couple were tied to a truck and dragged to their deaths a long time ago...something to do with money. My brother-in-law said, he normally sees it right as its getting dark, which makes since because I've never seen it until its pitch black out and it always comes from the direction of where he lives.

Subject: shadow person experience

I was newly divorced and moved into an old farm house in a neighborhood. When I first moved in, I was about to go to sleep. When I turned off the light, something started shaking the covers at my feet. I thought it was a raccoon or some large animal. When I turned on the light, the commotion stopped and nothing was there.

Months later, my kids were having trouble at home so I was teaching them to say the rosary. As we were saying our prayers, a baseball that was sitting on a sewing machine, flew across the room. My son still remembers this.

Then one night I was sleeping. I was awakened by something and I sat up and looked at a figure. It was blacker than the night; that's how I could see it. It was standing next to the doorway of my bedroom seeming to look at me over its shoulder. I tried to get up but I fell back onto the bed asleep. I woke up several times to see this figure and tried to get away from it but kept falling back into unconsciousness. During the sightings, I remember thinking this thing was very good at what it does and it exudes great confidence. I don't know why I thought this.

The next morning, I woke up with no recollection of the experience and I went to work. During the morning at work, I was on the roof of a metal building, sheeting the roof, when I fell twenty five feet off the structure. I woke up, in the hospital, 4 days later after surgery and in a fog from morphine and pain killers and remembered the shadow man on the wall. I remembered a voice in my head saying, "Are you sure you want to go over there?" The voice was talking about the edge of the roof. I think now maybe something was trying to warn me. I may never know.

Subject: Just happened today.

So I had just awoken from a weird dream. Weirder than usual: it was people forcing me to perform tasks or I would be brutally punished. I can't really remember the dream that well. Anyway, so I woke up around 6 a.m. and usually when I just wake up from a dream that early, I lay there and try to go back to sleep.

The sun was just starting to rise and it was a little light shining through my bedroom window, putting a dim light in the room. I tried to go back to sleep but I sensed something weird, like I was honestly being watched. Something told me to turn over and as soon as I started to turn over, I saw the shadowy figure out of the corner of my eye. It wasn't really tall but it was a black pointed 'hoodie' figure. I could only see it from the waist up but I kept looking out of the corner of my eye to see if it would move.

This is my first encounter so I didn't know what to do. It didn't move or anything, it was just standing there....staring at me. I couldn't see a face. As soon as i got the courage to turn all the way over, I jerked over really fast to let it know I saw it. As soon as I snatched my covers down it disappeared into the floor. I turned over in my bed, my heart pounding. I started praying and still now, I'm trying to figure out was it just a hallucination or was it real.

I really believe it was a shadow person because I decided to do some research on my encounter this morning and everything that I saw, was described.

I was scared to see the figure but I'm not like.terrified. I feel more curious than ever. I do know that I don't want to see it again. I couldn't really make out how the figure was acting; it didn't seem threatening but it might have been something negative. It was just staring at me like it knew exactly who I was and there was a reason why it was watching me...I could tell it was glaring at me. It was standing straight up but I felt like something was wrong. I didn't see any eyes though.

I do not want my email and last name included in my story. If there is anything you guys can tell me about this encounter I would love to know more about it.

Subject: My shadow man story

Hi. First off you have my permission to submit this on your shadow people archive web site. I know for certain that I have seen shadow people although it happened when I was a young girl of about eight years old. I would see them every night and it was always the same.

Like most kids, I would wake up to use the washroom in the night. My room was at the very top of the stairs so when I opened my door, the stair case was directly in front of me. My grandmother's room was only two steps away in the adjacent room. So I would wake up and have to use the toilet and as soon as I would open the door, there would be two shadow men at the bottom of the stairs. They were definitely men and they were clearly solid black. I could not see through their bodies. They seemed to be waiting for me to come out of my room because one had a clip board of some kind and the other would bound up the stairs and run to me. Of course I was terrified but the only reassuring thing about it was, he would try to tickle me. I remember laughing at that point (sometimes you don't want to laugh but when tickled, you can't help it) and then in an instant they disappeared. Both of them were gone. Sometimes I would make it to the bathroom before they got up the stairs and after my business was done and I opened the door, they would be gone. Sometimes I would just make a run for my grandmother's room and make her come with me to the washroom; they never came into her room or appear if she was present. I remember the one with the clip board, always stayed at the bottom of the stairs and checked me off his list. They were very scary but I don't think they were there to frighten me or scare me. It was as if they had a job to do by checking in on me.

After a couple months this all ended and I have never seen them since. It is a very strong memory for me and when I found this site I finally knew that I wasn't the only one. I hope that my children never have to experience that but it is kind of nice to think that someone was watching out for me.

Thanks for letting me share,

Jen, Ontario, Canada

Subject: Shadow people, go ahead and put on if you want

I've been fortunate (or unfortunate) to have had two encounters with the shadow people, the first time I was only four, I was in my living room when suddenly something resembling a cloaked man race across the wall. It could've been a car according to my parents, but it not even same shape as car shadows.

The second time when I was eight, it defied all logic. It was in a neighbor's backyard, with the sun hitting the wall and nothing casting shade upon it, yet, for a brief second, there he was, the same cloaked man. I blinked and he was gone. I have not seen him since. Years later I was looking at urban legends and randomly clicked to this site, and found an illustration of my old acquaintance. I like to maintain a skeptical attitude, but I truly do believe this isn't some trick of our eyes or shadows. I don't know if they're good or evil but they're there, and hopefully my story will help others think so too.

Subject: The Hatman in dreams?

First of all thank you for creating such a wonderful site. For people like me who have been greatly affected by the shadows, it's nice to know there are others out there who have experienced the same entity. My experience has been different from most of the ones I read on your website and I wanted to get your opinion.

Short Version:

Ever since I was a kid, somewhere around fourth grade, I began seeing The Hatman...but only in my dreams. He was exactly as all the other people out there described him. In fact it was the stories they told that validated my dreams, I always suspected there was something more to them. Every time I go through an extreme sad moment in my life, a death or heart break, I have what I call a *shadow dream*. When I was little it was The Hatman who visited me, now the dreams are of him taking the form of people I love...doing evil things and then revealing himself when I become aware in the dream.

I was wondering if you know of other people being visited in dreams by him like this? If you don't mind me asking, how did you get interested in this subject?

Subject: My Story

My first (and only) experience with "shadow people" occurred when I was 12 or 13. I'll never forget it.

I had just awoken from a less than sound sleep. My television had stayed on most of the night and I, feeling a little liberated due to the weekend, decided to watch it. Pleasantville was the movie that was on the set. It was maybe 20 minutes in.

I won't lie. The movie had me a bit on edge so I pulled my blanket into a more comforting position. It was a common occurrence for my mother to leave the bathroom light on at night so my open door drew occasional glances from eyes to the dull light in the hall. On one of these glances, I saw something. I thought maybe it was someone returning from the bathroom and maybe I hadn't noticed them on their initial venture. Then I saw it again. Blackness. The figure moved inhumanly fast. It darted past my doorway three times, each filling me with unrelenting terror. I could make out only a silhouette; it was male. It was slender. It was a moving shadow.

I know for certain four things about that night.

ONE: I will never stare into a dimly lit doorway in the wee hours of the morning- AGAIN!

TWO: My brother (and former roommate) has a VERY high tolerance for panicked pinching.

THREE: I did NOT imagine or daydream or doze off and fantasized what I saw.

FOUR: I will forever keep an open (and skeptical, less since but still nonetheless) view of things of the supernatural sort.

I can't say for certain that what I saw was good, bad, or the Easter bunny. But I know this: It was as real as the word herein.

I'm 19 years old now and haven't seen my nighttime visitor since.

I give shadowpeople.org permission to upload my story.

Well it all started when I was about 5 years old, I was living in a rather large house with 2 stories my room was at the end of the hall right beside my mothers.

One night I woke up and as I woke up I saw a full figure with no face just a dark black figure staring at me, I was paralyzed with fear. I was already a paranoid child and was always afraid of something bad happening. So it was very traumatic.

I didn't see one for a long time until I was about 13 when I was home alone one night I was watching the television and I would see something at the corner of my eye and it would slip away. I would be always be aware of these things growing up and still seeing today black shadowy figures face to face in the distance and sometimes at the corner of my eye.

In January of 2012, I was at my girlfriend's (at the time) house. We were sleeping in bed when at about 2 or 3 a.m. I was awakened by two shadow figures to the left of me and the bed. The one closest to me grabbed my left arm. At that moment, I felt nothing but complete fear and the need to protect myself and my girlfriend (at the time). When it had my arm, it felt as if my soul was being snatched and I had to fight to remain with my body. I've never had an experience like it ever, before or after. It's still something that lingers in my head from time to time. But I feel my faith in God protected me that night.

When I was 10 or 11 years old, I was a huge fan of pokemon, and I even thought they were real. I was very scared of "ghost" pokemon because they were said to shapeshift into your shadow just to scare you. Because I was so terrified this would happen to me, I would always sleep with a flashlight, and I was scared to sleep alone (my grandma slept with me).

One night she left me to go to the bathroom, and I turned on my flashlight to comfort myself. I aimed the flashlight at the bookshelf, and there I saw a shadow that certainly didn't belong to me (I was laying in my bed, the shadow was standing up). It had the form of a little girl, about my age at the time. She had her hair in a loose ponytail. Like an ordinary shadow, she did not have a face. She did nothing but stare at me until I shut off the flashlight. For some reason, I was not afraid. I felt apathetic towards the shadow.

At the time, I thought it was a ghost pokemon playing tricks on me. When I got older, I thought it may have been a ghost, and asked my grandma if anyone had ever died in the house. She said no-one had died there, so that ruled out ghosts. Today, I am convinced it was indeed a shadow person.

You may post this in your short stories section, if you like.

About three weeks ago I had my first face to face shadow person experience. It was quite frightening.

It was about 11pm. I was watching TV in my bed. I had work in the morning so I shut the tv off. As I was laying there trying to sleep I heard a scratch at my bedroom door. I figured it was my dog, who would often scratch at the door when I would shut him out for licking himself, because it is the most annoying sound. I walked out into my hallway and he wasn't there. I thought nothing of it, went back into my room and shut my eyes. Once again about ten minutes later I heard the scratch at my door. I got up, walked into the hallway, once again, nothing. This time I decided to leave my bedroom door open.

I lay back down and shut my eyes. Maybe fifteen minutes later, I felt this unexplainable presence, as if someone was watching me. When I opened my eyes, there was a jet black figure, about 6 ft tall, standing over my bed peering down at me. I couldn't move or close my eyes or even scream. I just laid there terrified. It didn't seem as if the figure wanted to hurt me, it was more like it was just watching over me. It stayed for about sixty seconds or so, then merely dissipated into the air.

Not even three nights later, my mom came darting into my room screaming. When I asked her what was wrong, she described the exact same experience to me. Since then I've been doing research and am quite glad I found this website. We thought we were crazy. I'm jimmy, I'm a 19 year old male; and I have had the same shadow person experience twice as well as my mother once in three weeks.

I am a very mentally stable person, young, smart, and witty. I believe in extra-dimensional beings and an after-life. I am fascinated by the thought of them and am always hoping to have some sort of encounter. One night, not too long ago, I did have an encounter with a shadow man.

My bed sits right beside my wall and my computer sits 6 feet from the wall, illuminating it with a faint blinking light. I was in a dead sleep on my side, facing that wall, when I was suddenly awake. The first place that I looked was the wall by my feet and there it was. The shadow of a man that was very dark and distinctive. I could tell right away that he was facing me and was sitting casually cross- legged. I was shocked and quickly looked toward the light to see who was sitting on the edge of my bed but no one was there. I looked back at the wall only to notice the shadow had disappeared.

I was stunned for a second but just figured it was a figment of my imagination and tried to go back to sleep. However, my mind was still reeling over what I had just seen. I wanted to know the time, so I turned on my TV to see that it was about 3:13. I searched my room and no one was there. I was able to go to sleep shortly after, but I haven't forgotten the real-like shadow.

It wasn't until today that I noticed other people have experienced this phenomenon. I am glad I'm not alone.

Sometimes I get a call to do some "ghost busting". I don't care for it but sometimes it gets very interesting.

This nice lady asked me if I could come to her business. Her customers were getting freaked out by something strange. I thought this was interesting so I went over. It turned out to be a bar. The bar man was scared. This was at night.

Anyway the place is divided into two levels. The top level overlooked the lower. I didn't know quite what to do. There was no cold small breeze nor a prickly skin sensation; the usual evidence for me that something was up. I glanced at the second level and there was a shadow person who dove into the shadows and disappeared. We both surprised the other.

Shadow people are real. I don't quite know what they are all about. It appeared as a deep black human like entity. I clearly saw it. I told the owner what it was and that it was up to her what she wanted to do about it. She wanted to know if it was evil or benign. I said I didn't know. Just because I experience these things doesn't mean I understand it. She decided she would just let it be. A few months later her night club went out of business.

Subject: My encounter with shadow people

Hi, I'm 13 years old and I just recently had my first encounter with a shadow person. I had just come home from a really, really tiring day which was finished off with a strenuous session of Taekwondo classes. I pretty much crashed on the couch and fell asleep on my back. I didn't have any discernible dreams for pretty much the entire night until right before I woke up - and here's what happened.

In my "dream" (if you could call it that), I was lying down on my bed with my keyboard and mouse, browsing the internet. (This whole dream, by the way, barely lasted 3 minutes.) I kept seeing this weird black blob in the upper center of my door, which is right next to my computer desk. I kept looking over at that door, and each time the blob went away when I looked at it. The third or fourth time that I looked at it, another black thing appeared below it, around 40 inches or so in height and I saw it slide into the crack of the door. It was...a figure. No eyes, nothing; just a black figure in the shape of a person. It just stared at me, then, it started to come towards me, not stepping like a normal human being but sort of floating over, like it didn't have any weight. I didn't even get enough time to react, I just saw it make a diving leap at me and I closed my eyes and heard these repeated, "WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH", noises right by my head and then I woke up - it was 6 or so in the morning; the sun was partway up.

Interestingly, I had a dream, a week or so before, of a transparent red figure standing outside my house on the patio, behind my large glass sliding door. It had a slightly red transparent body, but it also had piercing red eyes that terrified me. I honestly don't know what's going on, I've never experienced these things ever before. I've heard some people seeing this shadow figures as docile, friendly creatures, but all I saw in that thing's appearance is hate and malevolence. I'm so glad I'm not alone, though. Thanks for letting me share my experience with you guys, I'm so glad I could get this off my chest. I give you guys full permission to upload this to the Archive.

Subject: Shadow people

Here it goes. It wasn't until a few days ago that I knew of the shadow people.

However....when I was about 7 years old, I was at my father's house. He was at a rock show and I was being babysat by his friend's daughter and boyfriend. They were about 18 or 19 years old. I was sitting at the edge of the recliner playing with my Legos with her boyfriend. My babysitter was in my dad's room folding clothes. All the sudden, a shadow, with a full figure of a human, came walking up from the downstairs and walked across the wall. And it stopped and stared at us. He had legs and lanky arms. Then, it proceeded into my father's room. Then my babysitter came walking out the room asking us if we had just 'seen that'. The boyfriend told me that was his friend but I know he was just trying to protect me. That was the only time I had ever seen something like that... until this November when my father passed away.

I experienced sleep paralysis on the night of his cremation and I saw a shadow above me. I could not move or yell for help! It was the most frightened I've ever been. And it's happened a few times since.

Well, the other night I was watching the telly with my dog. And out of the corner of my eye I saw a misty shadow with slight build. It wasn't staring at me, but it was staring at my father's memorial picture and ashes that I have on display with candles. I looked, then, it saw me. It turned and just, poof, it evaporated. About 20 seconds later, I heard a big bang coming from my upstairs. My dogs ears perked and she went to investigate. At first I thought it to be my father.... then I started to do research on these beings. My father would never put fear into me.... let me know what you think.

Hi, im kelly

Ok. So I live on a ranch... supposedly it was a plantation back in the 1800s. But anyways, I have three kids. My son had been started doing this 'hunchback' walk and doing 'monkey' sounds. At first I thought, well, that's cute but then I started to wonder where did he get that from? My son is only 2.

This happened today, August 31, 2012 at 1:30pm. I was walking in my room when, I swear, I saw my son doing that 'walk' and the "ooh-ooh" sound... I walked in his room...empty. It just completely disappeared. I thought he had walked away when I turned around but as I walked to my moms room, I discovered that my son was on the porch with my daughters.

In discussion with my mom, she stated that even she had seen it and had also thought it was my son. It crouches over and is about 2ft high, blacker than black and just disappears without a trace. I am totaly spooked still... and still tryng to process this thing in my brain!!

Use on your site if you want. Just don't use my email.

Subject: The Shadow Person

Most nights I stay up really late, writing, listening to music, reading, etc. But this night I felt really uneasy. The uneasiness you get when you turn off all the lights before walking up the stairs out of the basement. Like the darkness is closing in. I haven't had night terrors since I was ten, so I just managed to calm down and decided to stop what I was doing and go to bed. It had to be 2 or 3 in the morning--which is normal for me and it just naturally takes a while to fall asleep.

So I was lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, and I finally started to feel sleepy even with this really, tight kind of feeling, I thought, "Crap, I'm having a night terror." So I turned on my side, taking deep breaths and rolled back over and just *stared*. My bed is a futon and I realized I forgot to close the closet when getting into bed--leaving doors open, or windows unlocked before going to bed is kinda nerve wrecking.

I was going to get up but in the fuzziness of the dark, by the closet, something was moving. I dismissed it as surely being some trick of my eyes from being tired but it was getting closer. I saw the shape of a head, and shoulders and where the fuzziness was just a bit darker I could kind of see a torso. Then a hand stretched out toward me; a thick hand, bigger than mine. It reminded me of graphics for a videogame or someone wearing thick gloves. Closer and closer. I was frozen, trying to wish it away and the moment it was probably less than a foot from my face, I threw my pillow and buried myself beneath my blankets. I was petrified, my heart was racing and I kept having this tense feeling. It was tall, taller than me--trying to compare it to my closet door--it just emerged from the shadow of my closet. But out of curiosity, I took off the blankets, and it was gone. And very slowly, that tenseness started to fade. I slept with my lamp on that night, my desk chair in front of my closet doors. I thought about it a lot after that, picturing it and eventually, I told my supernatural obsessed friend. She told me what it was--overly excited--and gave me the URL for this site.

I'm not superstitious. I don't believe in the dark, but I gotta say, this is quite thrilling.

Subject: Sighting in suburban Paris apartment

I have never posted anything like this before as I consider myself a "rational" person with an Ivy League education and master's degree, but today's "event" seemed inexplicable and too real.

As history, one time in this Ile de la Jatte apartment, in the basement parking garage, I have seen what I thought to be a shadow moving into the concrete wall. I attributed it to my fatigue or imagination. Today's "event" was more obvious.

I was taking a shower which is doorless. There is a towel warmer next to the open space that faces a large mirror and two-sink vanity.

I finished washing my hair, when I suddenly "saw" something move rapidly from the corner of my eye. A very fast black, indescript shadow went towards the mirror and either into the mirror itself or plaster wall. I couldn't tell because the wall was part of cabin shower. From what I remember, it was not "human" in shape. It was a fast blur of darkness. What then caught my eye was equally strange. As I simultaneously turned towards the left, I saw my hanging towel moving, as if brushed with a gust of air. It was actual swaying!

Being analytical, I thought maybe the way I moved created enough air to make the towel move. Maybe water splashed out. However, the towel was too far away from where I was standing. There's no possible way. Additionally, the direction of the "sway" was opposite to where I was. The direction of "push" had to be from the attached alcove that leads into the bathroom. There are no windows nearby. No fans. No possible way for a draft strong enough to move what is a considerably heavy cotton bath towel. I had no hair dryer or any type of electronic devices in the area. I tried to move my body and arms to simulate the "air currents", but nothing happened to the towel.

I post this because I am absolutely sure I saw something paranormal today. There is no explanation to this except what I believe are "shadow people" or "shadow spirits", an energy we cannot understand!

Subject: Shadow person?

Hi, You can use this story but please no personal information. Our assistant manager had recently committed suicide. Don't know whether this could have been a ghost of him - or whether it could have been a shadow person.

I was working in the office overnight alone, on the 6th floor, typing medical reports. I was engrossed in my report but out of my peripheral, I saw a male in a long black trench coat (and hat? This was several years ago.) kind of hurrying through the typing room as if he had to be someplace. I didn't pay much attention until he seemed to wave at me. I passively waved at him, still glued to my monitor. Then he exited through the typing room door leading to the hallway but I didn't hear the door slam! He had walked right through it.

It didn't bother me until later because when it happened, I was engrossed in my work. That might have been a shadow person. Never saw anything similar before or since.

Aside from the 'iffy' shadow person, I was used to typing alone, third shift, often. During the night, I would hear what sounded like people coming in for the morning: jingling keys, throwing keys on desks, sighing, stretching, walking in the hall, and I often thought I heard people typing. Often, I went to greet whoever might have come in but there was nobody most of those times. Often, I felt like I was being watched by people - not malicious people, but just interested. It didn't bother me because I didn't sense any danger. There probably aren't very many tall buildings that aren't haunted.

Subject: Shadow People: My experience

Hi,

This happened a while ago but it has been in the back of my mind since. In the end, I decided to do a search on the net to see if I could find anything remotely akin to what I experienced, and so here I am.

I usually meditate before going to sleep, sometimes that leads to astral travel, sometimes I just end up in that state of conscious awareness of being physically asleep but esoterically aware of my surroundings being altered. To be honest I'm not sure if I was in this state or not when it happened since I was lying down in my bed, apparently asleep, or at least in all respects, unaware of any conscious split. But I was 'woken up' by a drilling sensation in the right side of my head. My right leg felt as if it was being held down. It wasn't a pleasant experience and it came in waves that grew in intensity. I lay there and allowed it to happen for a while because I'm someone who experiences things generally on a psychic level and curiosity generally gets the better of me and I'm well-tuned into the energy of a thing in terms of its nature. Had it felt 'wrong', (I dislike the word 'evil' it's so subjective), I'd have taken measures, but it didn't. I didn't fight it, it didn't feel threatening at all and I got no sense of danger. But the sensations became increasingly intense so I quite simply asked for it to stop and it did, immediately.

As I turned in my bed, I saw a dark human shape crouched over me. The moment I spotted it, it slipped out of the range of my peripheral vision and was gone. As a moderately capable psychic, fairly experienced in Spirit and Elemental energies, I would not say that this being was in any way evil or dangerous. I believe it was merely curious, as we are of it and whilst its method of introduction was less than desirable, no harm was done and it stopped the moment I asked it to.

I feel that people are more likely to assume its 'wrong' because they don't understand it and it's beyond their normal range of experience. The Being certainly understood my request to stop and respected my request. There has been no lingering energy since and I haven't seen it again. Please feel free to write to me if you have any questions, but really that is the full story as it happened.

Kind regards

Lally.

Subject: A shadow at xmas

A real strange thing happened to me when I was about 8 or 9 years old, my mom sister and I had gone to a friend for Xmas, and everything had been totally normal. We ate Xmas lunch, and afterward, I was feeling tired because I ate so much. I went and lay down on a bed in the guest room which was directly across from the door, about 2 meters off.

I was dozing off when I got an uneasy feeling and opened my eyes. I saw a shadow standing by the door; it was pitch black and almost as tall as the door frame. I could see a featureless head and shoulders, torso and upper legs, but nothing below that.

I tried moving or shouting but I was totally paralyzed! I stared at it for what seemed like 5 minutes and then it disappeared and reappeared a bit closer. Same thing happened again, and again each time, getting closer and scaring me more and more.

What happened next is kind of hard to explain. The shadow disappeared, and it felt like it went into me. I felt like I weighed a ton, and went ice cold, with hair standing on end everywhere! All of a sudden, I heard brutal screaming and shouting, like there were 50 men women and kids in the room with me. After that, I was terrified beyond words and struggled until I could move again. I ran into the room where everyone was and started crying. They asked me what was the matter, and I told them. I haven't seen any shadows since.

When I was about 9-10 years old, I lived in a detached house with my family. My room was on the first floor. One night I was very thirsty and I was about to go down for a drink. So I've just got downstairs then I turned towards the kitchen where I saw a dark person sitting at the kitchen table. I was looking at 'him' and he stared at me. We were just keeping eye contact for a few seconds then I ran to my room. I was terrified. Despite of the fear I felt, I immediately fell asleep. When I woke up, I was still terrified from the shadow being. It didn't feel like a dream because I could feel the cold and I could feel the movement of my own body. At that time I didn't take pills or drugs. :)

How I remember the creature: - quite tall - darker than dark, he wear nothing just darkness itself - he was sitting on the chair like an ordinary human - non-aggressive - he got legs and he could move like a normal human

That's my story, I hope it will help a bit in your research. My English isn't perfect, feel free to correct it.

Subject: Creepy babysitting night

Well, when I was about 13. The lady across the way from my apartment asked me to baby sit for her. So far the night was going pretty good once I got the kids into bed.

About an hour went by and I had this strong feeling to go check on the kids. So I got up from the sofa and was about to walk into the hallway to check on them. I stopped dead in my tracks because I got this bad feeling that something or someone was in the hallway. I finally told myself, ‘it’s nothing’. So I finally walked into the hallway and checked on them and they were fine! So I turned the light off and walked out of their room and the hallway. Then I started getting this feeling I was being watched so I turned around and there was this male figure, blacker then pitch black, just standing there looking at me. His eyes were red. (The figure was a male, I could tell by how tall he was.)

Me and this shadow person were just looking at each other. I could feel the hate it had for me. And it didn’t want me there. What it seem to go on for an hour, was only a few seconds of it just standing there. Then it disappeared.

The next night I saw another shadow person, only this time, it was a figure of a little girl and she was running from the kitchen to the hallway and disappeared. But the thing is... I felt what ‘she was feeling’. And it was the feeling of ‘being scared’. Something was chasing her.

Growing up I’ve seen, felt, and heard things. Those two stories are not the only experiences I’ve had.

Enjoy my story,
Tiffany

Subject: Shadow Man

I experience sleep paralysis on an off and on basis. The most traumatic experience I've had so far was about two years ago. At the time, I didn't know what sleep paralysis was, which made it all the more scary.

I was lying on my left side when I heard the shuffling. I heard the back door open and close and saw the kitchen (which is just outside my room) light flick on. I thought my mother was up, so I averted my eyes to the doorway. That's when I saw the dark, faceless (male) figure staring at me through the crack of the door. I watched it for a few seconds to make sure it was really there, and when I realized it was (in a sense) I started to panic. I tried to move but I was paralyzed.

It slipped its hands through the crack of my door (as if it was coming to get me) and its fingers started growing, stretching out across my wall and my door. I couldn't scream. I closed my eyes, made myself calm down (as much as I could) and waited to regain control of my body. Once I regained control, I opened my eyes and saw the figure was gone. There was no light on in the kitchen. I ran screaming out of my room and woke up my mother, who had sleeping the whole time.

I give you permission to upload my story to the Official Shadow People Archive.

Subject: Shadow Man..?

My name is Michele. I have been seeing my 'Shadow Man' since I was 6 years old. I've recently had my 22nd birthday. I see him almost everyday, most days more than once. It starts out with just a glimpse in the corner of my eye and when I turn to look he's gone. He's normally in the corner of rooms or up the top of the stairs or being the racking at work (I work in a warehouse). At first he was just at home, then he started appearing at my boyfriends house, my sisters house, my work. I've never been afraid of him. As he's been around since I was 6 I just assumed everyone saw them.

Things started to get scary last week when I was at work alone. I was out in the back room (which is spooky enough as it is!) when something caught my eye. I turned expecting to see my Shadow Man disappear but instead I was faced with on of the most terrifying things I've experienced in my life. I don't know if it was MY Shadow Man or something else but what stood before me was a tall gentleman in black. I didn't notice much about his appearance (eg. if he had a hat on) because I couldn't take my eyes off his face. What I saw were piercing red/black eyes, no nose, and a massive white/yellow grin (like the Cheshire cat from Alice in wonderland!). He had his head pointed down so he was looking up at me. I immediately ran into the other room and sat at my desk until I calmed down. It's been a week now and I can still feel him watching me. In fact, I can feel him watching me write this right now.

Is it the Shadow Man that has been following me nearly all my life? If it is why is he suddenly getting closer? My Grandad passed away when I was 6, is it him watching me? Is it something completely different? Should I be worried? If anyone could help me answer these questions I would be great full. I have scanned the internet but not found any useful information.

I admit that I see him more when I am upset or stressed. I would be interested to see if anyone contacts me with the same problem. Most of the ones I've read, people seem to see them once in a blue moon. I see mine every day.

Kind Regards, Michele

This is probably some of the clearest of memories from my early child.

When I was about three, four, five years old I could remember seeing four shadow figures moving around my room almost every night. Because of this I was scared shit of the dark and every night would leave the light on when I went to sleep. So I guess when I would fall asleep my mom would come turn the lights off. So hours later I would wake up with the lights and see four show figures moving around I could see the complete silhouette of mens' bodies with a hooded head. I would sit up in bed terrified watching these figures then I would run out of the room to my mom's room, wake her up, come back to the room and the figures would still be there until she would turn on the light and they would vanish.

This happened consistently night after for a few years and then stopped until maybe I was about eight or nine when I woke up one night face to face with a single figure and remember being choked for a short time until vanished. When I was younger and would see them, I wasn't sure of there intentions but I that point, I knew they were something of pure evil. Since that last time, I haven't seen them thankfully but the clear memory has always been in my mind. Recently I've had conversations about them with friends and found out some have had similar experiences so decided to look into them and found this website. I would like you to put this on your website because I want people to know these creatures are evil and are very much real.

Hi, my name is Emma and live in London, England. My story happened when I first moved to Plumstead in South East London.

It was with my best friend at the time and it was her Grandad’s house and we all lived there together. To cut a long story short, it was a three story house, Victorian and haunted. I felt it form the first moment I set foot in there. So a year in and I am asleep in my bed on the ground floor at the front of the house. I am on my back and something wakes me up and I am completely paralysed; all I could move was my eyes and I noticed someone standing at the side of the bed. I could tell it wanted me to pay attention to it so I glanced at it and we just stared at each other for thirty seconds or so. I can only describe it as a hooded or cowled male form, about six foot in height. It was also darker than the dark of the room. It wasn’t that menacing, just kind of disapproving of me. IT WAS VERY EERIE THAT’S ALL I CAN SAY!. So, so eerie, especially the eyes, which were grey, not red or yellow as they have been described before, and sort of slanted or oval shaped and they were very creepy indeed. Nothing about this being was sharp it wasn’t solid per se, so , I jolted and fell back to sleep. It wasn’t there in the morning.

Then two nights after that I was in bed ready to go to sleep when suddenly I heard male breathing coming from the couch by the window and it was loud and frightening so I hid under my duvet for the rest of the night. I was more scared of this because it confirmed a “shadow” ha ha of a doubt what I had seen and I’ve never forgotten it.

I was hanging out with my cousin one day by a train bridge that goes over a large creek. I saw this shadow appear out of nowhere. It was a little taller than me and I was 5’4” at the time. It seemed to be a male figure. It hovered about a foot off the ground. It was kind of dark and misty. When it disappeared I thought I was imagining things.

About two or three months ago I was sitting in my living room at about midnight. I saw the same figure walk down my hallway. It seemed to just stare at me.

Then just recently I saw this again at a local movie theater.

Hi, my name Floyd I am 32 and I live in Louisiana. I have been seeing shadow people almost all throughout childhood. I stumbled along your site and wanted to share my story.

First time I recall seeing these figures, I was petrified with fear. Then one night I saw the figure with a top hat clearly standing on the other side of the room. I watched him watch me for at least ten minutes and I jumped out of bed and lunged for him. He disappeared and I hit the wall, waking everyone in the house.

Lately, I have been seeing them again but now when I see them, there are 4 or 5 of them standing around my bed. They don’t really scare me as much these days, just startle me when I awake to see them. Yet, there is a feeling of fear or terror when they are present.

I don’t think they are here to hurt anyone. I believe it’s a natural reaction to have that feeling when you see something that just don’t look natural. I have seen two different kinds of shadow people. I have seen the one with the top hat all my life but recently; I have seen the top hat being with the fully cloaked beings with him. I don’t know what any of this means but I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Yes, it is ok to share my story.

Subject: Shadows On The Wall

I was about seven years old, at the time we (mom, dad and sister) lived in a house in the country that sat at the far end of a farm field on about one acre of land. The house itself was old and creepy. When we renovated, we found items in the ceiling like a baby's shoe and bottles with locks of hair in them, which only added to the creepiness of the place although stashing things in the ceiling was common in earlier times.

My bedroom was at the top of the stairs to the left of a small landing, my bunk-bed was positioned so that if my head was at the bottom of the bed, I would be looking out the bedroom door and onto the back wall of the landing. I had the top bunk, my sister, although she had a room of her own, would sleep on the bottom.

One night, with everyone asleep in the house, I lay awake. I suppose just up thinking about kid stuff. The night-light was illuminating the landing and I was looking out the door. It was then that I saw it, a figure cast upon the wall. It was completely black; its shape was like looking at a hooded, cloaked figure from the side. As it passed my door from right to left, it's movement was flickering and jumpy as if it was a shadow cast by flickering candle light. And then another figure, again from right to left, and another! I'm not able to remember how many passed my door, but they came one after the other from right to left for maybe ten to fifteen seconds. Being only seven, I was paralyzed by fear, I couldn't move and tried not to breathe, thinking that the figures would hear me and come for me.

I was never one to close my eyes or cover my face with the sheets, I always felt it would be worse to open my eyes and have something right in front of me than to see it approach, so I watched until they were gone. My fear of what I was witnessing consumed any ability to sense whether these beings were benevolent, malevolent, good, evil or just neutral entities doing whatever it is they were doing. What I know for sure is that was a night I will never, EVER forget.

Subject: Finally, I feel that im not crazy

You have permission to use this. I live in Hermitage TN which is the home of President Andrew Jackson, war and slavery. I lived in these apartments that had a cemetery from the 1700s and myself, always felt funny or strange emotions or feelings about the land.

The first time I saw the SHADOWS, outside of thinking I saw something, I was getting on the interstate and was waiting on the light to turn. As it did, I saw a wide shadow come from the trees. It would be equivalent to about as long as a basketball court. I double checked and saw nothing again but felt strange and uneasy the rest of the day. I felt like something bad was going to happen. That day like 3 celebrities died , two people known through others the next day and my uncle had an aneurysm and was on life support for two months after that.

The next time I was about to leave my home and I saw the same thing coming from above my neighbor’s building. I got a type of anxiety over me and did not want to leave the house for the fear that something was going to happen. That shadow and the one before went into the air as if a flock of birds would.

The next two times were in my house in my bedroom. These would start from the floor on my wall from the cracks and go thru the top but as they were almost at the top more would come from the bottom. Some would make it to my ceiling before fading. The first time I was scared because it felt evil, as if it wanted someone’s soul and I don't even know where that would come up in my mind from but I just felt it was after something or someone. To best describe it, is like the ghost scene on GHOST with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze..look it up on ‘You Tube’ if you have never saw that movie.

The next time it happened I was angry about something and saw this but didn't take my eyes off of it. I end up saying out loud that “I AM NOT SCARED OF YOU!”…and they went faster from floor to ceiling until they went from the floor to mid wall before fading away. A lot was going on in my life at the time and by this time I was convinced that SOMETHING was feeding on the energy of the apartment and the area period and that it was out to literally drive me insane. I just now ran across a show about shadow people and I was like WOW...NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS BEFORE. THIS STUFF IS WEIRD AND REAL…

Subject: My story

Hi, I'll try to write this the best I can. Sorry for any grammar mistakes.

So, the first and only time I ever saw something like this was when I was 7, I and my brother were both in our grandparent’s living room, watching TV before bed. We were just talking like normal. Our kitchen was just right next to the living room with a wall that you had to go behind to get into the rest of the kitchen. I don't know when it came, but when it did, I happen to look to my right toward the kitchen, (I was closest to the kitchen; only 5 feet away to be exact) there I saw it.

It looked like a boy, maybe a little older than me at the time. He was unnaturally positioned on the wall; sideways, with both arms down to his sides with his hands resting on the wall as if using it for balance or something. I only saw him from waist up. He was pure black, pure. I could see him as fine as could be, as if someone was literally there, but no light reflected off him. There were no details at all on his body, only the shape. His hair looked like an older style, maybe from the early 50's.

I looked and saw him and I just stared for about 5 seconds. I then looked to my brother and he was just asleep, even though we were literally talking right before I saw it. The TV had even gone off. I looked to my brother and said his name in an attempt to wake him but no luck. I, then, looked back to the figure and we stared at each other for at least 10-15 seconds and he slowly went behind the wall, staying sideways and when the wall reached his neck, his hands slowly came off the wall and went back with him. The whole time I was never afraid or anything, I was only stunned and in disbelief but calm still. I didn't think to follow at the time but I wish I had.

Ever since then, I've wished to see him again. It's another reason I'm typing this, doing research on these beings. The next day after this sighting, our kitchen sink was full of dead termites, not literally FULL, but there were a lot. This concludes my story, I hope I can see the being again one day. Thanks for reading, and I hope it gets published.

Subject: Shadow person in the yard.

So this just happened to me like an hour ago. I’m 20 years old and live in Georgia. I have had similar experiences but this one just really stuck out for me and my friends.

I have been living with my friends for about a month now and I was just going out to my car to get my cigarettes. My friends have a huge back yard with very few trees. I had just stooped down into my car and gotten my cigarettes and I hadn’t seen anything out there when I got out there. I closed my glove compartment and stood up and there, in the middle of their yard, just behind their burn pile, was this black figure. It was clear because the moon is full tonight and I could see perfectly. It was probably about 6’ tall and pure black. I couldn’t make out any features which I thought was weird because the moon is out and the yard was so well lit. It didn’t move or make any motions. I watched it for a second and then turned and ran back inside. When I turned the corner of their house, I saw the figure was at my car when it had been at least 30 feet away before. There was no way that it could have gotten that close that fast and still be in the same position. I ran inside and told my friends and they came out with me. Nothing was there.

I was absolutely terrified and it didn’t feel like it was there to do any good. It put a really weird feeling in me like I have never felt. I don’t know how to explain it but my friend had mentioned shadow people and I looked it up and found this site.

Subject: Shadow Experience

Hi

I was in my bedroom on Sunday afternoon 4th November making up my bed when I looked across to the other side of the double bed which is beside the bedroom door. I noticed a dark shadow slide down onto the floor as if someone was trying to hide under my bed. I called my son's name thinking he was playing a prank on me. There was no response. I then walked round to where I saw the shadow and looked under my bed and there was nothing. I felt calm and I wasn't scared. I then went down stairs and my son was in his own bedroom. I just thought how strange. I have since wondered if it was my Mum who suddenly passed away last year. Will I ever know that is now the question.

It was 6 am, I remembered because that's the time I usually got ready for school. I was walking to my laundry room. I felt like there were eyes on me, that's when I saw it a figure that was darker than dark; it looked like it had been wearing a hood or a cloak . I remember it being short, like a fourth grader. It looked at me for two seconds and turned away from me. It seemed to want to leave, like it knew it hadn't been invited into my home. It walked like an ape or chimpanzee, it had a gap between its legs, and it happily swayed its arms back and forth, as if it were peaceful or even happy. It walked into the window, and it just disappeared. I remember that my heart was racing, and I was scared because I had known that it was real since I was younger, I believed in the paranormal

So I've been noticing shadow people for as long as I can remember (I'm only 13 but..). Up until a year and a half ago, I would see them going up and down streets looking like normal people or I would see a white looking figure run towards a shadow person before it disappeared. When this would happen, it looked as if the shadow person was watching me. Then I didn't see them for a while.

So a year and a half ago I kept feeling as if I was being followed or watched from time to time; especially when I tried to sleep. About 2 months ago, I actually saw one up front; it was just standing next to my bed watching me. Now I've read stories about their hostility or them being from hell, but that was not the case for me. It seemed just to watch what I did and listened to what I said, as if it was studying me. I was pretty curious about it too, so I asked it some questions just to make sure that I wasn't seeing things. The first thing I asked was if it was from hell or sent by Satan, and I had gotten no response. Then I asked a second time and I said, "If you are from hell or were sent by Satan, raise both of your arms. If not, raise one arm." That time, it had raised one arm.

The last time I had seen it, was in a nightmare. I was fearing for my life in this dream while being chased by people with guns and I remember a white figure grabbing each one of the men, one by one, until they were all on the floor, dead. The white figure then came face to face with me and I had a feeling that it was someone I've known and met before. So since then, I have not seen this figure.

I went to work thinking it was a normal day. I had worked about half of my shift and my boss was in the office doing paper work on her computer. Next to her monitor was the camera system. There are sixteen digital infrared cameras throughout the store, covering almost every part of the store.

It was about four o'clock in the afternoon. I was filling ice in one of the coolers when my boss runs out of her office telling me, “There’s a ghost in here!” I asked her what she was talking about and she told me to come and look at the camera. I saw a black figure that looked to be human and three-D but you could see through, yet very dark. It seemed to be male and was wearing a top hat and some sort of cape. He had his back to the camera but seemed featureless. He was full bodied. I at first thought that, maybe, someone had walked really fast by the camera or something but then it seemed to gather into a ball and shot off to the right of the camera. I then realized no one else was in the store but me and her. I find it very creepy. I have never seen anything like it. It seemed to be walking and then it was just gone, it shot off to god knows where.

I had been telling people the place was haunted because of things like, hearing talking even though no one else was in the store. I never expected see it, though.

Subject: Playground Stalker?

Yesterday, I was walking my son to a local playground to go on the swings. The playground is about 75 feet behind a maintenance/storage building. As I approached the playground, I could see a portion of the playground from the sidewalk, particularly the swing set and a umbrella shaped play toy that children can spin around on and hang from. There were no kids from what I saw and everything was dead quiet & still. As I drew closer to the maintenance building, the playground went out of sight until I rounded the corner of the building and came into full view of the playground. To my surprise, as soon as I came into view, a black blur caught the corner of my eye (I assume dashing into the maintenance building) and then I noticed the umbrella play toy spinning on its own with no one around. No wind, no children, nothing. The black blur of a figure was too fast to give any details. Just the size of an average human being, but moving at the speed of light.

I am semi-sceptical of these occurrences, so I kind of brush them off. But I thought you may want to hear this story because this is the only reasoning I can come up with for this experience.

Hi.

I am not sure this falls in your shadow people category but would love some input as to where it does fall. My experience occurred many years ago but has bothered me since. I had recently moved back to my hometown and was staying at my parent's house until my place was ready. I was sleeping on the divan in the living room. What I remember is that I was on the divan, I thought asleep, and I was aware that I was trying to scream to my mother but I could not open my mouth. I was just making a noise. I was terrified and knew that if I could not get my mother to wake me up, I would not wake up. It's like I was watching myself and I knew I was making a noise and that I wanted to call my mother but could not. Then, my mother was shaking me and telling me I was making a terrible noise. I did not tell her what happened but after she left, I looked over across the room and notice three, dark "people shadows" at the recliner. There was an older lady sitting in it and two men behind. The woman had what I knew was an evil smile on her face. They were just watching me. They were not there long but I can't recall how they left.

I have not seen them since had, on several occasions, the same experience of going to sleep and then knowing that if I did not wake up, I would not. On one of those occasions, I knew what my husband was doing in the other room and I was aware that I was on the bed hitting it with my arm, trying to call to him and trying to get his attention or wake up. I don’t' recall him coming in but he did and told me I was having a nightmare and was making an awful noise. Has happened a couple times since. It has been about 25 years from the first to the last. I would love an explanation.

Subject: 2 different encounters, same shadow person

My name is Ashley Nicole, and I have had two separate encounters with the same shadow person.

It appeared to have a feminine presence, dark, white eyes, and wore a blue bandana. It walked into my bedroom, pretending to be my mother routinely checking on me and proceeded to kiss me on the cheek. I remember wiping the kiss away, telling my ‘mother’ to stop (because I was half-asleep and thought it was her). I suddenly went into sleep paralysis and started receiving multiple "violent" unpleasant kisses on the exact same cheek. It was suddenly gone when I came out of the sleep paralysis & woke all the way up.

The second time it happened; same thing, except it violently struck me repeatedly on my backside. I couldn't move, but this time I remember looking right in its face before I woke all the way up, gasping for air…out of fear?

I've been doing some reading about these beings frequently visiting those with a "gift" or connection to the spiritual realm. I've always known that there was something special about my mother and I as we both have O negative blood type, plus some psychic abilities.

Subject: Shadow People

At 8:15 PM on December 6, 2012 in Charlotte, NC, my 18 year old daughter and I headed out to go shopping. I turned right out of my driveway and drove up the darkened street past the only streetlight. About 50 feet in front of me, I thought I saw a shadowy figure in the middle of the road. I slowed down to give it time to move out of the way; either to the left or to the right. As I approached, I observed a black, tall, thin, wispy and quivering figure that resembled smoke. It did not hover but instead contacted the road, and it appeared to be as tall as a man. It vanished and I drove through nothing!

I said to my daughter, "Hmm. I slowed down because I thought I saw something in the middle of the road in front of us. I guess I didn't." To my shock and surprise, she replied, "I saw something, too." I asked, "What did you see?" She then described an entity, about six feet tall and wispy like black smoke, that accelerated rapidly down the road and disappeared. That was our eerie "Twilight Zone" moment!!!

I felt disturbed that I saw such a strange, unexplained "ghost" in my own neighborhood, and I was even more bothered when my daughter described the exact same being!! It wasn't just my imagination! She surmised that maybe it was the ghost of the man who had died alone in the house across the street from us, undiscovered for two weeks.

Before my daughter's similar description, I was willing to believe that I was just tired or that my 56 year old eyes don't see so well in the dark anymore. I have never seen anything supernatural before. I discovered your website while researching "black, wispy, smoky ghosts."

Subject: story

You have my full permission to upload this story for your site. In 2007, I was only 13 years old. There's a few possibilities why this shadow demon I call it, came to my house. Either it was because, some time before, my friends and did, what we thought was silly, the Bloody M. (Don't feel comfortable finishing it.) mirror thing or because there was a lot of death in my family at the time.

One night alone, I was in my room sleeping and all of a sudden, I wake up. Nothing really MADE me wake up, I just woke up on my own and soon as I opened my eyes, this black, dark black, figure was standing at the end of my bed; a cloaked shadow demon. Soon as I saw it, I was paralyzed in fear. I noticed the posters in my room were actually blowing off the wall and my fan was spinning extremely fast! I also had a wind chime hanging from my fan, which was spinning in huge circles! (I tried to replicate it after but never could.) When I looked back at the cloaked shadow demon, it tilted its head at me as if it were saying, "Whats wrong?" in a sarcastic way. It didn't actually say this but ‘gestured’ to say that.

I decided that no way in HELL was I going to stay in my room with that thing standing at the end of my bed watching me so it took everything within me to jump out of that bed. I jumped out with my head down and when I looked up, it was, all of a sudden, gone. It vanished!

I would say it probably stayed there watching me for a good minute. It was probably there even longer while I was asleep which is very uncomfortable to imagine but I just bolted right through where it was standing because I had to run that way to leave my room. I went in the living room for the rest of the night and tried to get sleep, which was impossible because out of fear it would just follow me there.

I have also experienced other beings which I believed to be demonic like: scratches, breathing on my neck and other full bodied apparitions. Thankfully, today my house is no longer haunted and this experience gave me full belief in God and Jesus Christ so I am thankful for the experience.

Shadow Woman at bedroom doorway:

On May 28, 2012 around 2am in the morning, all lights were off, blinds slightly open to let enough of the street light come through the window to be able to see in room as eyes adjust to darkness. At my doorway a woman was standing, she had long hair, skinny, and around 5’7” tall. She was not like a shadow you would see on the wall or the ground but just like a real three-dimensional person in the room. I could see features such as hands, arms, legs, and hair very well. I could not see her face. I was lying on my side facing the door when I had opened my eyes. It was like she recognized that I could see her and as she approached my bed, I raised my head and she leaned over to look into my eyes. I said, “Who are you?” in a very deep ready to fight voice because I was surprised that someone was in my house. I knew it wasn’t my daughter who was 6 years old or my wife who was 5ft tall because I could perfectly make the frame of the person out. I did not feel like she was threatening because she slowly approached me.

I jumped through her and turned the lights on and she was gone. My wife raised her head up and asked me if I heard something? My wife is a bit scared of her own shadow so I told her no and didn’t tell her about it until the next day. One other occurrence happened this same night, my 9 year old boy woke us up hollering someone was holding his legs down around 11pm on May 27, 2012.

Six Months and 15 days later, around 3:30am, I see this lady again when I wake up. She is standing at the door. As I see her I think, holy shit, I got chills from my head all the way down my arms and back. She slowly walked towards the master bathroom which had the door closed and disappeared. I grabbed my cell phone for light and she was gone. I got up and looked the house over. My daughter was sleeping with me and my wife was working night shift.

I think the shadow woman left because she knew I had been frightened. I’ve been trying to talk myself into staying calm so the next time I see her I may try to communicate but it’s hard to stay calm when you wake up in middle of night and see someone staring at you. I do not feel threatened by her presence but would love to communicate with her which is easier said than done.

Subject: The watching shadow

Hello,

Hope you can help me clear things up

Since I was a child, I have seen this shadow. I can see by the outline that it is a man; he is tall. I always see him by a window and I have lived in two different places. He does not do anything. He is just standing and watching me. And it is always a bedtime. Sometimes I feel him, also during the day. During the day I never see him. And it is only sometimes I see or feel him.

He does not look smoky; he just looks like a shadow. Although I have never seen his feet, it looks like he is wearing a long coat.

He does not seem threatening. I have never tried to talk to him but I always look at him. He seems calm. He does not move. I have never seen him leave. He can stay for long periods of time so I often fall asleep.

I do not fear him. I feel at peace. Like he is protecting me. But sometimes I am a bit scared because I do not understand. I am scared of the situation. Not always, just sometimes. Although I cannot always see him, I know that it is him. There are not ‘other’ shadow people; it is always the same man.

Is he from a past life? Could it been my soul mate that has died in this lifetime and is waiting for me. Not for me to die but for us both to start a new lifetime together? Is it a relative watching over me? Is it an angel?

Thank you!

Subject: My experiance with shadow people.

I’ve been seeing shadow people for about 2 years now, and there are two types I see. Usually they are following other people when I see them. Always male silhouettes just bunched together behind a person or several people. Sometimes it’s just one or it has been as many as seven. Usually they just follow behind them, fading away at the waist, but sometimes they reach out to try and touch the person or tug on their cloths.

The other type, just stares back at me, he appears suddenly, somewhere in the distance, closest he’s been is about 20 feet away, and usually he just stares back at me, his arms looking like they are in pockets or something. One time he sat down but kept his head turned towards me. And just last night, he was joined by two others, who stared back at me as I was having a cigar outside.

I don’t know what to feel when I see them, they don’t make any aggressive action, or act like guardians either, they just stare at me, like an observer in the zoo. The same goes for the following shadow people, they don’t seem to be aggressive, and those few times I saw their arms they seemed to try and get the people’s attention. I don’t know what to make of this cause they only appear when I’m feeling alone or sad, and they appear suddenly and just as suddenly they disappear, but strangely only when I’m feeling better.

My late husband sadly passed away September, 1999 from a brain tumor. Around May of the Year 2000, I was in the swimming pool in back of the house. I had swum to the right side of our long pool. The pool lights lit up the backyard. It was around 8:00 p.m. at night. I had just swam to the right side of the pool and came up out of the water when I saw a running black shadow figure having the same body outline as my late husband. The black shadow was hurrying to the pool gate leading into the swimming pool. The strides of the shadow's legs were exactly the strides of my late husband. When I saw the figure, the hair must have stood up on my neck. I had never seen anything like this in my entire life! I saw the black shadow arrive at the swimming pool gate than totally disappear into thin air.

This was my one encounter with a shadow person. I had heard of shadow people in the past but this was the first time I had ever seen one. I assumed maybe the shadow figure was my late husband offering a final good-bye?

Subject: Shadow people in my dreams.

Since about age 5, I’ve always seen shadow people in my dreams. They've taken friends and family members away from me.

For instance, April 11th, 2009, I dreamed that the shadow people dragged my friend from a trailer in my dream. I get a call next morning from her boyfriend, telling me she died in her sleep, next to him; lips purple, exhausted expression. The people I see, look like actual two-dimensional shadows of people cast onto the floors and walls. I’m submitting a short dream that I just awoke from, regarding the shadow people and my unborn son.

In my dream, I could hear my son crying. On the flight up the stairs, there were images popping up in my head with a high pitch ring. When I got upstairs and looked where my son's crib is (which was not actually there yet), I saw the images of three shadows cast across the floor. These images stretched from the floor-wall joint of one side of the room, where the feet of the shadows lie, to nine feet across the floor of the room to the crib. There, the 3-dimensional heads and upper bodies of the beings seem to ‘exit from the two-dimensional portions of their lower halves. They stood above the crib peering in. I said to them: “Stay the fuck away from my son, you leeches!” The center one turned and instantly appeared in front of me growling like a tiger or something. I could see the being, farthest away, reach into the crib.

Up until this point, I’ve never interacted with shadow people but I took a swing at the one in my face. In, almost, the same breath, I woke up with my fist in the headboard of my bed. I cried to my wife for a little bit.

I don’t know what they want but they've followed me for the past 20 years in my dreams. My aunt used to tell me how she had gotten chased through the woods by shadow people as a teen. I don’t know what relevance they have to me but I’ll tell you what... it scares the crap outta me.

I was leaving for work one morning; it was about 6:30 am, still dark out. As I stepped out the side door to the driveway, I turned back to shut the door. A street light in front of my house cast a shadow down my drive way making it completely dark but a little bit of light does cast on my neighbor's garage.

As I turn to shut my door, I saw a shadow of a man with a hat not run but move fast across the front of the neighbor’s garage. Thinking nothing of it, in that motion of observing the rest of its movement, it dawned on me. I just saw a black shadow move in front of the garage where it is lit but I continued to see it move where there was no light. So I had to go get in my vehicle which in the dark area. From that point on I felt I was being watched. And whatever it was, it gave me the feeling ‘it was scared’. So who knows how close it was to me to feel that.

It was late 1990’s when I had my experience. I was living with my mother and I was about 13 years old. That night was a very hot summer night in Puerto Rico, and I couldn’t sleep.

My bed was right in front of my bedroom door and when I sat up to stand up and turn the fan on, I just saw this little figure, a cloaked hooded dwarf, looking to the floor. I didn’t know at that moment if I wanted to stand up or lay down and try to sleep again but 2 minutes passed and it didn’t move. I decided to stand up and it suddenly looked up at me and stared. Again, I just stayed quiet, staring at it too. About 3 minutes passed and it didn’t move, so I decided to walk to the fan and turn it up and I just saw it run towards me. I stand by the fan and it stands by me. About 30 seconds passed and it looked at me again...it had big bright red eyes and was about 4 feet tall. I felt like it was curious about me, about my kind and I also had the feeling that it was just a little curious kid and it meant no harm for me or my mom. We stared at each other for one minute and then it just left; it ran away from me. When I finally did move, I looked by my door and it just disappeared.

I wasn’t scared but I was definitely shocked. It’s presence was so peaceful tho, I wanted to see it again. I’m 27 now, and still waiting to see it again.

One evening I was sitting up in bed. My bedroom door open to the end of the hallway. It was about 10 p.m. I was wide-awake working on my ipad. I was facing the hallway, head up looking at my ipad when I thought my son had come out of his bedroom to talk to me. I saw him leave his bedroom and stop in my doorway, kind of out of the corner of my eye but more in front of me since I was focusing on my iPad but facing the doorway.

As he stood in my doorway, I said, "Hey, Louis what do you want?" and looked up from my iPad. The hallway light was on and I saw immediately that it wasn't my son. It was a very tall shadow man. I screamed, gasped loud enough for my husband and son to hear me and run to me. The shadow man turned slowly around, almost disintegrating into thin air and zooming down the hallway all at the same time. He was as tall as my doorway, square shaped jaw, medium build and wore an old military hat, the type that look like a tall cylindrical baseball cap.

It was frightening. It happened about 4 months ago and I have not felt comfortable in his bedroom since.

Subject: Shadow.

All the stories I have read have been of seeing shadows at night; however, my experience was in the morning.

I had spent the night at my cousin’s house and we stayed up watching TV. Well, after it was time to go to bed, I slept in my little cousin’s room and he slept with his parents. At that time, I had to have been 12yrs old. I am now 34 and remember it perfectly. I had awakened in the morning and went into the living room to watch cartoons. That is when I saw a shadow of what appeared to be that of a man; it was a perfect profile black shadow that wasn’t transparent, even though it was in front of windows with the morning sun shining in.

It seemed to be messing in the fridge but the door was closed. I went into the rest room and was so scared that I began to pray. I came back out and looked and it was still there in the kitchen. I then went into my aunt’s bedroom. They were all asleep. I didn’t wake them because I wasn’t sure if what I was seeing was real or fake. So, I went again to look and it was gone.

To this day, I don’t know what it was. And now that I’m older, I’ve thought about it every now and then. The funny thing is, that I remember the layout of the living room and of the kitchen but I don’t remember much else about that house other than they moved out shortly after. Don’t know why. But I know nobody ever believed me.

Subject: Shadow people?

My experience with "shadow people" started about two years ago.

When it first started happening, it was at night when I was the only one up. Every time it happened, I was walking across my basement to my room and I would see a shadow like figure out of the corner of my eye. At first, I thought nothing of it but it started happening more and more. The more it happened, the more defined the figure became. Every time it happened, the figure would appear in the same place. It would appear in the same corner of my basement and disappear, super-fast, into the closet. I never saw it for more than a second until last week.

Last week, it was around 8 PM and I was working out in my garage. I had music blasting out and then I felt some one watching me. I thought it was my mom so I turned around and for about 2 or 3 seconds this black figure just stared at me. It had very distinct black boots, the face was black, and I believe it was a male. I didn't have too much time to study the figure because it walked very quickly across the garage and disappeared into the window.

While we stared at each other, I felt very calm and not scared at all. After the experience, it took a little while to sink in and then I started to get scared and got out of the garage. Right after that, I went out of town and talked to my Aunt who told me I should search into what has been happening and that is how I learned about shadow figures. I'm just wondering what causes shadow figures to show themselves to certain people. No one else in my family has experienced this. I am also confused if they are good or evil. I also give you permission to share this story.

Subject: Shadow Hat People

Hi.

I was on this site and looking up shadow people. Just happened to be watching a show called, A Haunting, and something on the show tonight made me do a bit of searching. I found your story and feel that what I saw when I was younger to be the same as how you described this dark entity in your story.

The one dark figure was not a nice, guardian like, being. He was dark and evil. I knew then that he wanted to harm me. My figure was tall like yours, about 7 feet in height, wore a trench coat or very long jacket and had a hat sort of like a cowboy hat. My shadow person would always watch me from this tall fern in the front of the yard in my parent’s home.

One day, I was home alone and was looking at some pictures of my favorite singer. I was 12-14 years old then. On that day, the mailman had come and I went outside to pick up the mail from the box and had come back into my room to find the folder I had put away on my pillow that was up at the head of my bed. I found the folder propped open on top of my pillow which was now at the foot of my bed facing the bedroom door. I had seen the shadow man and felt him watching again. I knew he wanted me, knew he wanted to hurt me.

I have since moved far away from my parent's home, but I continue to see the shadow people. Many are tricksters and many are powerful, but nothing like the man with the hat. I feel sometimes, that my shadow man with the hat is looking for me but I hope he never does.

I don't know why I felt obligated to email you, but I am glad your shadow person left you alone.

Subject: Shadow Bat

Hello,

Last night at about 8:45pm, I was in my master bathroom, waiting for the shower water to heat up. My bedroom ceiling light was on and my cat was sitting in the middle of the room. I opened the shower door to run my fingers under the water and it still cold, so I shut the door and caught a glimpse of my cat staring at something. I looked up in the direction of which he was staring and there was a black dark bat that flew from the corner of the opposite side of the room towards me, into the ceiling lamp. I watched in full view it's wings flutter without a noise. I was able to definition of it's wings, but no facial features or body features. It was not see-thru or frosted. It was solid. When it got to the ceiling light, it disappeared. My cat had tracked the bat as well, as he was staring at the ceiling lamp. I never felt scared or fear. The feeling I had was purely amazement of what I just witnessed. I stood there a few moments longer and then my husband walked into the room.

I think I have always seen things out of the corner of my eye, without actual proof. This was not out of the corner of my eye. This was in full view. I am a mid thirties wife and mother who does not drink, smoke or take drugs who listens to country music and believes in angels. I am just your average suburban soccer mom. I cannot explain the reason for me seeing this.
