Subject: My story about shadow People.
*Hi, I tell this story many times to my friends. This happened where I live in the house of my dad in Charlotte, North Carolina, United State of America.
Generally happens during Friday or Saturday, or when the house is in silence, or when the light is dreary, usually between 2am to 3am.
When I sleep, I feel a rare sensation that wakes up me. I saw in the corridors, a black shadow walking in the kitchen or living room. It's all black and physically like an adult man. When that happens, I stand up from my bed and follow them by the corridors in the dark. I forget to switch on the light.
But many times the same thing happens. When I am close to them (or him), the shadow vanishes through the walls or doors or hides in a dark place. They disappear in front my eyes. But I know that they are there, hiding in some place, I can feel it.
I saw many times the same thing. Sometimes they (or him) move objects or switch on or off the lights, only to call attention.and then nothing. It is a very rare situation.
I always take pictures with my video-camera but nothing appears in the pictures. Sometimes I take pictures between light and shadows to discover where they (or him) are hidden.

My experience was in 1995. I was in bed, asleep, when I felt my torso moving slightly up and down. When I awoke, I saw a shadow on top of me in a straddling position. I looked at it; it had no features of gender, just a silhouette of a person. pitch black it was. I glanced really fast around the room, trying to compare the darkness and what was on top of me. When I focused back at it, it leaned forward, stared at me, face to face. I turned my head to one side and screamed so loud, the dogs outside were barking. At the same time, it sat upright and lunged itself into my chest. At that very moment I prayed so fast. Since then I've had no reoccurrence with it.

Subject: A brief encounter
I work from home, and on one particular morning I was getting my dogs ready for their trip to the dog park.
Having put on their leashes I straightened up and from out of the corner of my eye my attention was caught by a 'male' sitting at my desk. I couldn't see any facial features, but he was slender, I would say tall, and black from head to toe, as in a silhouette.
The chair was turned away from my desk (which was how I left it when I'd got up earlier) and he looked totally relaxed, leaning back legs bent at the knee and parted, hands laying on his upper thighs. I had the impression he was waiting. Perhaps he fancied a trip to the dog park, or was just looking out for me who knows. I didn't find it scary, just intriguing anyway when I looked again, sadly he had gone.
I live in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Subject: shadows after my surgery
On Jan 26th 2008 I had ACL reconstruction and was released from the hospital.
Later on that nite, at about 3am, I woke up to a noise! I thought somebody was by my bed and so I looked to my left on the right side of my bed where my armoire sits (that I had just purchased three days earlier) and I saw there was nobody there. Then I heard it again! It was knocking coming from the inside of the armoire. Man my heart was beating so fast, I could hardly breathe. This all took place in a matter of seconds and so I just laid there for a while trying to get back to sleep telling myself it was nothing.
I don't remember if it was one or two days later, I was awakened at 3am once again and lo and behold it was coming from the armoire only this time, it was the moveable handles on the drawers were being flicked up and down rapidly and this to happened in a matter of seconds. It was about that time I began seeing a shadow come into my room almost every day in the evening coming from the ceiling on the right side of my bed, hovering about seven feet from the ground and it was dark like a shadow and see through. Its been almost two years now and I haven't seen it for a while but some times when I feel angry for no reason I know he is near.

Hello I was with my wife and son (8) today at the Fillmore fish hatchery, in Fillmore CA. I was sitting on the wall of the middle pool, wife was standing in front of me and my son was to my left. The time was around 2:30pm when all of a sudden the three of us experienced a shadow pass us, it was not a "shadow person" per say but was more of a rectangular box shadow, it was about 75' long and 5'-10' feet wide, as it passed us it passed over the trout pool which made them all boil to the top of the water, this whole event lasted 2-4 seconds, when it had passed the trout they immediately stopped the "boil". We all looked at each other and said what the hell was that, then we looked above us to see if there was a plane or bird that just flew over us but there was nothing, no clouds, birds, planes, nothing, in fact the birds had stopped making noise and none of them were flying around.
After that we decided to get out of there. The other thing we noticed was that my wife said she seemed to have lost her balance when it happened and I felt like I had gotten pushed to the right.
Has anyone else ever reported something like this before? Wife also said later that it was weird that there happened to be 3 fires all within miles of each other. The one thing I did notice was that there was a cool looking cloud traveling north on the freeway to get to the highway this place is located at. The pictures are still on my wife's camera, let me know if you'd like to see that picture. Mind you she's not very good at taking them, so I'll be lucky if it's even in focus.

Subject: My own personal experience
Back when I was younger (this story happened about four or five years ago) I was into to ghost hunting. Surprisingly you could find quite a few supposed haunted places in my hometown of Omaha Nebraska. One of these places was an old nursing home that had been torn down. The rumors abound were that the nursing home had been plagued with illegal activity and abuse of the patients. It was in a less then healthy part of town.
Me and two of my friends, who also shared my ghost hunting enthusiasm, decided to drive down around 11 or 12 at night. We arrived at the nursing home which was still in the process of being torn down. It was very eerie with half of the building still standing. We looked through the windows of the building. There was graffiti everywhere as well as beds and chairs thrown around. After walking around outside for awhile, we decided not to go in, fearing legal repercussions or less than mentally healthy homeless people.
We walked back to the car and as I was getting into the car, something caught my eye. About 50 or 60 feet in front of the car was what I thought was a man moving under a street light. That's when the chills started vibrating up and down my spine. What I saw looked like a man about five feet but there were absolutely no features nothing. It was as if there was a void of light. Remember this was directly below a street light and all I saw was a figure that looked as if it was made of fuzzy blackness completely devoid of light. I was in a trance of sorts and I couldn't move; I just kept staring. And if there was a face, the figure most definitely would have been staring right back at me.
No sooner did I yell for my friends to look, the figure shot (that's the best way I can describe it wasn't a run it was like quick levitation) off to the right and down a hill out of sight. I told them to speed up and go look. There was nothing there. At the bottom of the hill was the back of a strip mall and it was lit very well. I have never returned there I have been much too scared after that encounter.
I give my permission to post this story

Subject: Shadow in Cape May NJ Condo
My boyfriend and I took a trip to Cape May NJ for my birthday weekend, just this past weekend. We had gone out to dinner drank copious amounts of wine, returned back to the condo, which is owned by his family & sat out on the balcony for some beers.
Recently I have disclosed to my boyfriend that I am somewhat clairvoyant or empathic, I still don't know how to categorize it. I am very sensitive to certain energies that cannot be seen. I believe I can feel when a presence is in an area close to me. I can also tell if it is light or heavy, (heavy being bad). Since I informed him about my special ability he asks if I feel his grandmother around him from time to time. They were very close & she died a few years back. He says he gets chills sometimes & thinks it's her letting him know she is still around watching over him. Anyway we were talking about exactly this in the condo. But I don't remember picking up on any energies that night maybe because of the alcohol. Yes, we were drinking but I was coherent as was he.
As we are having our conversation we both looked at the floor in front of where we were sitting in the kitchen area, then looked at each other and said at the same time did you see that???????? We both saw something different though. What I saw can best be explained as the shadow of a bird flying overhead being cast onto the floor, it moved quickly and I only saw it move across maybe 5 feet of the rug. He tells me he saw what can best be explained as the tail of a white gown moving across the floor.
Whatever it was it moved quickly, but I know there was something there because we both saw it at the same time. It was late at night & dark outside so there was no light for any shadows to be cast by something outside. We also had all of the lights on in the living and kitchen area. I am pretty sure that was my only experience actually seeing something instead of feeling it. Cape May is a very haunted place & I could feel it as we walked through the town. It was pretty cool to see something like that & have someone there to confirm you aren't seeing things!

Subject: Shadow Person
I'd just like to say it's a relief to finally find a place where there are similar story's to mine, which has always seemed so different from other ghost stories.
My memory of childhood is slightly fuzzy; but if there's one memory which has been blazened into my skull frame by frame was when I first encountered a shadow person. I was about 10, with my family visiting the beach; I was with my sister in a room with one door and one window; I was sleeping on the top of a bunk-bed. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't seem to sleep; I was facing the wall, and suddenly I heard a sound and I could feel a presence; I knew I was being watched. So I stayed there without moving, extremely afraid for about twenty minutes, pushing my imagination and trying to imagine what it could be. I've had a habit since I can remember of closing doors, and since this door was old it was particularly noisy. Being I light sleeper I would have awoken were the door to be opened; but I didn't, so I decided to turn around and see what was happening. When I turned what I saw was a completely dark figure with a hat with a brim; it seemed to be a man's outline, and I could see the outline of a hat on its head. It proceeded to take a pace toward me. I was frozen in fear. It took another pace. I was staring directly at it. When it started moving again I managed to free myself from the fear and scream; instantly my mother opened the door and hit the lights... nothing. It was completely gone.
My Japanese teacher told me a similar story, 23 years ago he finished giving lessons late at night in a building and everybody left, as he cleaned up his desk all alone he felt a presence and out of the corner of his eyes saw a pitch black shadow go by him, when he looked it was gone. It was about 1 meter tall, and moved like a cat.

In November, 1997 while I was attending college I had an expected encounter. I was home a lone just watching television, but too tired to go out. One minute I was watching television and than a cloaked imaged appeared. It had no eyes, and the head kept on spinning. It was heavy dense. The clothes was old and ragged. I froze and too terrify to move. I probably never been terrified of anything in my life. The hand was so heavy and dense. It very demanding when they want attention. I was warned to sell our house by 1999, but my parents think its there house. The worse part is my dad made improvements to the house. Every now and then I encounter this cloak image before some sort of danger is about to happen. We bought our house back in 1992. I keep telling my parents to sell the house, but they are too stubborn to listen.
I also encountered shadow people, but they told me to call them other people. They are just like real people. They wear clothes just like to real people. Some have pointy nose. I remember seeing vague looking eyes. The one with no eyes has a spinning head, that can be very dizzying. I have never experienced chills or cold that people keep talking about. I treat them like how I would treat real people. They would appear for 3-weeks and than dis-appear, during that time all I would do is sleep. Some times they would appear in an image of your favourite person-it was like as if they know. I always remember the pointy hats they wear. I feel that other people try to protect me from harms ways.
I feel that I have been given a mixed of both worlds of evil and good.

Subject: short shadows you may use my name and story.
We moved into an old large house. We were keeping a couple of grandkids for our children for a while. We moved into the large creepy house around November. The house is dark and has very large rooms. We put the children in two separate rooms. It started about 6 weeks after we moved in.
First, there was a black shadow man coming from the wall in one of the bathrooms, while we were getting the yule things ready. Then suddenly we started to set up our yule things, being as we are a Celtic family. After we finished, my granddaughter went into her bathroom to take her shower. She came running out looking like a wet duck with soap. She thought her brother was playing a joke on her and had come into the bathroom. My husband went to look for the grandson because he liked to play tricks on us all but he was outside playing with the dogs. She insisted she had seen a midget black shadow thru the shower curtain, standing there.
Well time went on and school started. I was brushing my granddaughters hair one morning, when suddenly a small black troll looking thing dashed out of the kitchen cabinet and disappeared into an old built in cabinet on the wall. That was the start of the small black creatures running all over the floor. They have been glimpsed by visitors. My dog starts to bark starring down our dark hallway. The children finally went back to their parents. My daughter’s illness due to an accident got better. The black troll shadows and squirrel shadows are still here mostly.
We have to live here so they better get used to us. I don’t know if any one has seen trolls but our giant oak tree I’m sure has a shadow troll. He got spotted several times in the early dawn.I’m a grandmother and this is the truth. I know about the strange black shadows dashing about my walls, hallways and dark back yard, laden with trees.

Subject: Shadow People Torture
I have been experiencing visitations from Shadow People since I was in my early 20's. I am now 38 and still experience these beings. It always happens at night around 3 to 4am. Something will lay on top of me and even though I would awaken, I cannot move. I am completely paralyzed. At first, it was terrifying and I would panic. Sometimes it still is, but most of the time when it is occurring I start cursing at it, telling it that I'm going to kick its butt. It will eventually leave, but nothing I've said (be it calling God, Jesus, Angels or Archangels does anything to make it go away.) It just lies on top of me and stares at me.
When these visitations started, it would happen nightly. I became terrified to go to sleep. I did everything I could...candle spells, salt on the floor, going to psychics, churches, witches, so on and so forth. Nothing. 17 years later, I am still being visited by these things except now instead of laying on top of me, it messes with my feet or legs. Yesterday, I felt someone lay it's hands on my buttocks and shake me as if it was trying to make me bounce.
I don't know what to do anymore. I am just exhausted.

Subject: tophat man.
I have seen 'The Hat man' once. Although i would not describe the experience as terrifying, i do not wish to see him again. I awoke in the early hours one morning in the summer of 1999 and went to the kitchen for a glass of water. The kitchen was not in darkness as dawn was breaking, bringing a little bit of light into the room. I ran the tap and filled my glass. When my glass was full i turned and looked out of the kitchen window and across the school field, which was fenced off from the end of my garden. As i stood and drank i looked at the thin line of day light breaking through the navy sky in the distance, it was at that moment that i saw him.
I stood still a little confused and a little astonished at this black silhouette of a man, no shorter than six foot tall and wearing a top hat and a long coat that flapped behind his legs as a strode across the field in front of me. He held a cane which he flicked in front of him as he walked. As i watched i tried to understand why anyone would be walking across a locked school field in the small hours of the morning, and in no apparent hurry. For a moment i wondered where he was going because there was no exit in the direction in which he was walking, only fenced off gardens, barbed wire and stinging nettles!
I could not make sense of what i was seeing and began to feel uneasy, i stood rooted to the spot and worried that he might feel me watching and turn to look at me. He didn't. He just strolled along as if he had all the time in the world. I watched him walk behind the green house that sat at the end of my neighbors garden (wired fencing didn't allow for much privacy).
He never walked out the other side, he just vanished. It wasn't until he disappeared that i felt creepy.
It was some years later that i found out that many people all over the world have seen something very similar to what i saw that night.
I permit my experience of 'The Hat man' to be uploaded on to the Official Shadow People Archive.

Subject: particle man
I was just returning from visiting my son's grave at a nearby cemetery. I pulled under my carport when I saw off to my left a human shaped creature. It was composed of particles which were not attached. It was 3 dimensional. I was hurrying to get out of sight. It walked fast to get behind a nearby pine tree. Its' movements were human-like. I got out of the car and looked behind the tree nothing was there. I have never seen or heard of anything like this. It was composed of black particles and it was in broad daylight. I saw it facing it in full view. If anyone else has seen this, please let me know.

Subject: My Experience
I stumbled upon this page because I had a pretty bizarre experience yesterday. I've experienced various forms of sleep paralysis throughout my life. Typically when it happens I hear people repeatedly entering and exiting my home and I'm unable to confront them or even identify them. It's slightly startling, but it's not very threatening.
However, yesterday I was frozen and there was a large black figure lingering RIGHT above me. The only way to describe it was "shadow person," which led me here. That alone wouldn't be enough to terrify me except that the shadow person was telling me over and over he was going to "fucking kill me." The only way to describe the feeling that followed was that every single inch of me was trying to pull away from this terrible terrible thing! I should also clarify that I'm not religious, and I've never had any kind of problems with mental health or anything. I'm just a little freaked out. Just thinking about the encounter right now is causing my hands to clam up and get all sweaty. I just thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone could relate or offer advice. Thanks.

Subject: my experience with shadow people
My name is Keith Freeman, I am 53 years old, at home on disability, had several strokes. My wife and I and our two dogs live in a two story townhouse that was built 5 or 6 years ago. My wife is also an antique dealer in Raleigh, NC. For the last couple of months, mid way up the stair well, I have seen a shadow out of the corner of my eye, and when I turn to look, whatever it is, moves up the stairs out of sight.
I told my wife about it, she dismissed it right away as my vivid imagination. Teasing me about it. Well last week we are downstairs watching TV , I am on the couch, lets say 3 o'clock position, and my wife is in her chair, 12 o' clock position, the black shadow figure came from upstairs darted down between both of us and looked like it went through the wall past us. It was about six feet tall and looked like it had a cape no distinguishing limbs. My wife and I looked at each other and at the same time and said "did you see this?" Since this has happened my wife is very scared at night. We have not seen the shadow since that night. Maybe it went away.
Sincerely, Keith

Subject: shadow people?
My name is Jenna & I'm your average college kid. I've never believed in anything paranormal & had never even HEARD of 'shadow people' before this event.
At about 9pm in mid September 2010, a friend & I were headed to a local mountain to hopefully take some good shots of the scenery for a photography class of mine. We were unsure if the road up the mountain had already closed for the night so we decided to give it a shot. As we neared the now apparently clearly closed mountain road, I saw something completely pitch black move from my right to the left about 10 feet in front of my car. Thinking I was the only one who saw it I logically was trying to think of what it could have been. Right then my friend quickly turned to me exclaiming; "WHAT THE F*%# WAS THAT?!"
Now realizing that I wasn't the only one who saw 'it', I panicked saying "I don't know! I don't know!"
My friend yelled at me to turn the car around. I did as quickly as possible & as we were driving away we BOTH heard BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! on the roof of my car. It was as if some one was punching it as hard as possible.
We continued driving, & just accepted that we had experienced something unexplainable, but I know whatever it was made me feel complete terror. Just yesterday at work I was explaining this incident to a co-worker of mine & she told me that it was a shadow person. I hadn't heard of these so I looked them up on a search engine & every site explained EXACTLY what I had seen.
I know there are many theories about what these 'beings' could be, but I know I didn't get any positive vibes from it.
I give the site full permission to post my story. thanks!

Subject: shadow person at bedroom door way
hi I always had weird experiences. To get to the point my husband and I was sitting up in the bed watching tv. My daughter was away at school and we were alone. I looked at my bedroom doorway and there was a shadow person looking in. He was peaking in at a weird angle, sort of sly.
I looked directly to my husband and to my surprise, my husband was also looking in the same direction. I said, "Did you see that?" and he said, 'yeah'. I was amazed at this. He described the same thing I saw! For two people to see the same thing at the same time was wild. This person was all black and you could not even see any facial form just a tight black shape to his face.
I told my husband 'go see what it was'. He got up and checked and there was nothing there! To this day we still talk about it because we both saw this weird black shadow person who was trying to hide from us and the weird way he looked at us from the doorway. He did not want to be seen. I will never forget this. I still can't get over that we both saw it at the same time.

It was the summer of 2005. I was going through a tough time fighting for my life as I lost both my kidneys to years of kidney stones and having surgeries to remove them. I don't remember the exact dates of the two incidents when I experienced the shadow person visiting me, but I'll never forget them either.
I was sleeping without covers next to my wife when I remember waking up but had my eyes closed. I then felt something pulling me across the bed by my feet. I could feel the fabric moving across my back. It was at this time that I woke, snapped my head up really fast to see this shadow figure in what seemed to me to be the shape of a man. It was a black cloud like figure that had a misty outline to it. The shadow person saw that I'd woke and seen him and in an instance the mist dissipated and was gone. I then notice that I was lying across my wife's body. A position I've never been in the entire 15 years of our marriage.
In the second instance, I was wakened by the feeling that my right arm was ice cold. I looked up and saw another shadow person in the shape of a woman and just like before as soon as it noticed that I had seen it, it was gone. What makes this one different is; I used to wear a green band on my wrist for The National Kidney foundation and hadn't taken it off since I'd lost my kidneys. When I woke up the next morning I found the band on the floor next to my bed. The band couldn't have fallen off because I tried several ways to remove it without using my left hand. I have never had an experience like this before in my life and have not to this day after receiving a kidney from my sister in October '05.

Subject: My Shadow People Story
I have two experiences with the shadow people.
When I was about 4 or 5, I saw them on a regular basis. I remember seeing white wisps under the porch where I would play. In the house, they were black shadows and were quite distinct with legs and arms. But I would only get a glimpse as they would walk through the room. I remember asking my mom what they were and she said they were doppelgangers. As I got older, I wouldn't see them as often and haven't seen one in years.
When I was 19, 6 of us went boating in very rough water on Lake Erie. The boat's rudder broke and we could only go in a circle. The waves beached our boat on a sand bar. We grabbed our beer and made a fire on the beach. We (the guys) were all drinking, but our girl friends were not. The wind was crazy and we were getting sand in our hamburgers. My girlfriend and I seen white wisps all night swishing throughout the bushes. We weren't afraid, but it was pretty incredible.
Bonus story.
Shortly after my daughter started to walk, she stood in the doorway our dining room that was totally dark. We were quite surprised when she put her arms in the air as to be picked up. She was looking toward the ceiling, arms way up, but no one was there. It made our hair stand up.

Subject: My Shadow People Experience
I was about six years old when I had my first and only experience with the shadow people of which I still remember with clarity.
It was nearing dawn as I was in bed still as well as my parents and siblings. My bedroom was located at the end of a long hallway. I woke up for some reason and sat up in bed. I looked out of my room and down the hallway. I was startled when I saw two shadows on the wall, moving. One was a tall man who was pushing a wheelchair of another man. They were "walking" down the hallway, on the wall. I watched, but no one physically appeared. Being frightened I pulled the covers over my head, and waited. There were no sounds made by the two shadows. Suddenly, I felt two hands pawing at the bedcovers as if they were trying to pull them back. I held my breath and closed my eyes. They stopped. A long while later, I pulled the covers back and saw that they were gone.
I've never forgotten that experience.

Subject: My story - Jesi Lee
I saw the hat man at the age of 3 or 4 in the Philippines. I was in our living room walking on our couch which was made of bamboo branches. Within the wood grain I saw a man that looked like he was burned into the wood, it was only a silhouette. He had a slightly pointed hat and broad shoulders, no features; just a shadow... the scary part was that his jaw was moving as if he was talking to me. I cried and my mother ran into the room, swept me up into her arms and took me to some house.
An elderly woman took a green bottle and rubbed menthol like liquid on my back. She was speaking in tongues. She lit a candle and took a small bread plate, swirling the bottom of it above the flame. She flipped the plate over and the image of the hat man appeared. From what I remember she explained that this man was a dark spirit who came to children to possess them. I could be wrong about this part since i was too young to remember what was said. I tried asking my mom about it but she refuses to tell me too much detail. She just tells me to forget about it.
I pretty much did forget until I was 12 years old, we had already moved to America by then. I was in school during library time and a mysterious gothic girl came up to me and asked me if I was a witch. I coldly said, no and she proceeded to ask me if I've ever heard of shadow people. She told me to look them up online and she left. ( I never saw her again ) I looked them up and found a shadow people website which had "fan art" there, I found a simple pencil outline someone drew of the same hat man I saw... the person wrote that they saw this man when they were six. I am 23 now and I haven't encountered him since, I don't wish to... but I'm very curious as to who he is.

I don't feel comfortable giving my real name on the internet, but you can just call me "Ann". I also give you permission to publish this story on the Archive, if you'd like.
I was sixteen when I first experienced these "shadow people", even then, I knew to call them "shadow people", there just wasn't another name to call them. The first time, I was with my best friend and we were walking back to my house at night. Usually, night time is one of my most cherished time of the day (due to its quiet peacefulness), however, that night, something was different. I could tell something was off, but I ignored it. We were about a block or two away from my house when I went to look straight ahead and then I saw one of the strangest things I've ever seen. Behind me (on both sides, as if they had been following us) was about five or six men. I don't know how I knew they were all men, but I just knew. I didn't get much of a look to them (but they were all dressed in black and wore what looked like cloaks or something similar). The abruptness of their arrival and just the shock of seeing their shadowy appearance had shocked and frightened me. My friend also saw them when I asked her if she had seen anything (but when we turned around, there was nothing). Both of us being spooked, we stayed in the light as much as possible and hurried to my house.
After that, I'm not so sure of my friend, but I continued to see these shadow people. Not so many of them as before, only one or two at a time. There had been too many of these "sightings" after that first time to remember every time it happened. But I've always caught them at the side of my eye only to disappear when I go to look directly at them. After the first time it happened to me, I stopped being afraid of these shadow people.
I am now twenty and after moving to Alaska, I haven't really seen these shadow people since I've moved here. At times, I've felt something around me, but I have yet to experience these shadow people again.

Subject: red eyed shadow person
Hi!
I recently found your site, and I have an experience to share. I have kept it with me all my life, since I was 5, not telling anyone but my family because it sounds so crazy that I think most people would laugh. Until I found out about "shadow people", though my experience varies a bit from almost all the ones I read on your page, I truly thought what I had seen was a demon.
I was five years old, and my family moved into an old house (1905) that had a huge front bedroom with a walk in closet with no door (added when the house was renovated). My parents moved me into that room. Things were normal for a week, nothing out of the ordinary happened. Then one night, after tossing and turning and finally rolling out of bed as I commonly did at that age I glanced at the closet, which faced my bed. I saw something blacker than the darkness in the closet, shaped like a person (I would say a male though that's just based on the feeling I got from it) with red eyes. It didn't disappear, though, like most shadow people seem to be known to do. It actually (this is where it gets unbelievable) stuck its hand out of the closet and put it on the wall outside, as if reaching for something. I didn't wait any longer, I ran for my life screaming for my mom. They moved me out of that room because after that I refused to sleep in it. Other things happened in that house, but none like my red eyed shadow person.
Maybe my age was a factor in why it didn't disappear when I saw it, I don't know, but I wasn't the kind of kid to make up a story like that, and my parents believed me. I'm 23 now and it is still fresh in my mind, I don't think I will ever forget it.
You have my permission to post on your site, and any feedback on my experience would be appreciated because truly I still don't know if what I saw was a shadow person. The feeling I got from that thing was nothing but terror and dread.

This happened in the winter of about 2004. It after 11:00 pm. and I was working third shift at the Fenwicks building of Women's Prison in Niantic, CT.
I went outside to get some food items I had left in the back seat of my car.
While I was bend down placing the items into a plastic bag I heard the very clear sound of a twig snapping as if someone had just stepped on it. I rose quickly and turned in the direction of the sound and observed the very clear outline of a person standing about thirty-five feet away from me.
I looked at him without saying a word for about 30 seconds trying to see if it was another Correction Officer out for a walk, smoke or to get some fresh air which would not have been so unusual.
It was very dark but I thought I could see a silver badge on his chest so yelled, "You scared me, what are you doing out here." I then waited for a response but there was only silence. Then right before my eyes the outline of this person simply faded away, completely disappeared right before my eyes.
I was not frightened by what I just saw. I finished up what I was doing and thought about what I just experienced. It was just really weird to me but not scary at all. I never saw anything else again but sometimes I think it would be neat to see it again.

Subject: Brief encounters
I was washing dishes one day and saw a large male black shadow standing at the beginning of a hallway. All the windows were open and bright sunlight was everywhere. As i looked I felt calm I looked down to the sink and then felt goose bumps all over me. I looked up again and it was gone. Something else is out there in this world.
My second encounter was more frightening because I was sleeping. This shadow was much smaller than the first maybe 5ft or 6ft tall I was sleeping so I assumed it was my husband I rolled over and felt my husband next to me. Needless to say I awoke with my eyes wide open and looked again and the figure was there in the dark. I started screaming out of the top of my lungs and it was gone. At night I am afraid to open my eyes if I awake in the middle of the night.

Subject: Shadow Story
First of all, my name is James and I give you permission to post my story on your website. However, I would ask that you not include my email.
My experience with what I now believe was a shadow person took place about 9 or 10 years ago now. I awoke sometime in the early morning (there was enough light coming into my room that I could easily tell what I was seeing) to be startled by a tall and dark figure standing at the foot of my bed. It wasn't a "shadow" per se - it looked solid and three-dimensional. I guess the best way to describe it would be looking like one of the Nazgul from the 'Lord of the Rings' movies; it looked like it was wearing a dark cloak that covered its entire body, with a black hood and no visible face. It seemed between six and seven feet tall, and was leaning forward and staring right at me, as if it had been watching me sleep. It didn't vanish when I looked at it, as some people have experienced - it just stood there looking at me.
Although my instinctive reaction was fear and panic, I quickly realized that the only thing to do was to not give this entity my attention. Although it gave me the creeps and I did not get a good feeling from it at all, I also didn't feel that it could harm me. I mustered the courage to get out of bed and quickly went into the adjoining bathroom; when I returned, I did not want the figure to still be there and I did not look at it, although I knew it was still in the room with me. I simply turned over and eventually fell back to sleep. When I awoke again it was gone, and I have not seen it or anything else like it since that day.
I've always been certain that I saw what I saw, but believed it could probably be attributed to hypnagogia or something similar; now, after I started researching some aspects of the paranormal and came across your website and others, I'm not so sure at all. The fact that so many people have had strikingly similar visitations has made me start to believe that what I saw was not just a waking dream or my mind playing tricks on me. Strangely, I almost wish I could have such an experience again, because as creepy and unsettling as the idea is, I'm more curious about it than anything else. If these shadow beings are real, I want to know what they are and why one of them would visit me.

Subject: My Shadow Person Experience
I've had two experiences with them and hope I never have another. They happened within a couple nights of each other.
1st experience
I woke up from a deep sleep and saw this shadow figure of a man standing in the doorway of my bedroom. Simultaneously, he began to walk very quickly toward me. I actually thought it was a real person that was going to hurt me. I jumped out of bed away from the side of the bed that he was on and threw a pillow at him while I was screaming at the top of my lungs. He took evasive action to dodge the pillow. I then jumped across the bed to turn on the light because I didn't want to face this in the dark. As soon as I turned on the light, he wasn't there. My heart was pounding. I couldn't believe it wasn't a real person. I would have bet the farm on it. Thankfully I was wrong.
2nd experience
I think it was the next night, I woke up to see a shadow figure of a man standing over me and trying to shake me. I was too groggy to react. He was moving like he was shaking me, but I couldn't feel anything. It was like he was trying to actually shake me, but he couldn't make contact with my physical form. Then he was gone.

Subject: Shadow person story
I don't know if this counts, as I never personally saw the shadow person, but it was seen by two girls I was dating at different dates...
I lived in the same house in Whittier, CA for 16 years. I always felt scared at night, but I was a wussy kid. My sister has admitted to me recently that she was terrified of the dark there, as well, a fear that subsided for both of us when we moved out.
A shadow person was there. We just never knew.
One night, my first girlfriend and I were watching a movie ("Signs," ironically) in the living room. Next to the TV stand was a large sliding glass door with no curtains. She kept looking out the glass door and was becoming visibly nervous. She was sensitive to paranormal experiences, she had seen ghosts and things and I never doubted her. I was getting scared and she said "We need to go in your room, now." I knew she saw something, so I refused to look.
Once safe in my room, she told me what she saw: a dark figure, like a shadow but very black. It had eyes that glowed orange-red, and she was very insistent that it was a malicious creature, that it wanted to harm us. My bedroom was next to the living room, so my window faced the same direction as the door. All night, we heard footsteps outside and tapping on my window. We were absolutely terrified! But that was all.
A year later, I was dating someone else, and we had just had a big argument, so she went to sleep on the couch in the living room. I was angry so I didn't try to coax her back. After a while, I began to hear her. It sounded like a scream trapped in someone's throat. Finally I went out to see what was going on, and she was staring out the sliding glass door, eyes wild and terrified. Too scared to move, she was still trying to scream, finally managing to say, "Help me, it's watching me. It wants to get me. It's big and its eyes are glowing." She was paralyzed with fear.
I never saw it. I didn't want to see it! When I finally got her back into my room, she could only ramble about it's glowing eyes, and how dark it was and evil. I emailed my ex the next day to see if their descriptions matched.. and they did. Word for word.
I thought perhaps it wanted me, or had something to do with me, but I haven't had any experiences since, and I'm no longer scared of the dark.

Subject: Story Submission
My story is a rather lengthy one, though a little vague. I have distinct memories that start at the age of six. I remember seeing shadows move that shouldn't have been moving out of the corners of my eyes, the activity increased in frequency and how far the shadows would move into my vision. When I was about nine years old, I got my first true glimpse of the shadows that had been coming to me all my life. I had been at my grandmother's house back in the woods in Gloucester VA, walking down her long, very shady drive way (it was surrounded on either side by a thick woods) alone to get the mail. It was in the corner of my eye for only a moment and I had no time to brace myself for what was going to come next. The main thing I remember is getting very, very, very cold very, very quickly. It wasn't very big and it wasn't really right in my face. It was thin and wispy, I could see through it. But at the same time it was the blackest thing I had ever seen in my life. I know that doesn't make much sense but please, believe me. It was like staring into a see-through version of the night sky. I remember it moving around rapidly, almost like it was thrashing about violently before disappearing after about 3 minutes. The cold chills left the instant it did.
I've been seeing these creatures in my direct vision fairly often after this. I am 13 years old now. They don't really scare me anymore, I just accept that they're there. They've never tried to harm me, in fact they've never even touched me.

Subject: Orange Tongue
I was in my room trying to sleep. To know a shadow person is close is purely instinct. It's hard to explain how it happens; it's been a long time since anything like this happened. It a became a regular thing to be haunted by these people; but this one time, was really scary. When it happened, I didn't have to open my eyes like usual; instead, the image came into my head. Another weird thing was that it was very clear. Normally it would be a shadow, but judging by how it happened it was definitely one of them. The image came and I saw him; it was hard to make out what he looked like but he was definitely a man. I was so distracted because all I really saw was his tounge; it was a pale orange I think, but with out a doubt orange, but beside just the color, it was forked. It was a disturbing sight, and it only lasted a second; but the image still remains in my brain.

Subject: shadow people are real and they visited me
Hi,
First let me say that I'm not a crazy person, a conspiracy person or anything like that, I don't drink or do drugs, I'm a normal guy with a 9 to 5 job, but I'm 100% sure, honestly without a doubt, that I was visited by something in my bedroom, late at night, on multiple occasions during the winter months about seven years ago. I have never talked about it because I'm ashamed that it makes me sound like I'm crazy.
It was in the winter, and I was living alone at the time in my house in a rural area just West of Pittsburgh, PA. This happened over the course of about three months, then stopped, and has never happened again. The encounters were very similar, always very late after midnight. I would be in bed or on the couch (dosed off while watching TV). I would wake up, hear voices, but I couldn't make out what they were saying, but it was many many voices all talking at the same time. I wasn't imagining it. Now I'm paralyzed. Then black beings, sometimes just one, at most ever three, would show up, all black, deep black like the night sky, no features, but clearly had a human appearance, body with heads, arms, and legs. Now I'm terrified. They would come through the door or walls move around the room, still hearing voices as this is going on, but they never interacted with each other. Sometimes they would stand at the foot of my bed, sometimes the side of the bed, moving around, sometimes one would get right up and kneel on my chest and look at me, but I couldn't feel their weight. When they moved around they moved human like, but looked weightless like almost floating. Then as quick as they came they would go away, out the door, through the door or walls, they would leave. Voices would stop, became very quiet, and now I'm not paralyzed anymore, but still terrified, turning on the lights.
Over time I got more used to it because I knew what to expect and wasn't so scared. It was not sleep paralysis, I'm not stupid, I know what I saw, there were beings visiting me, I know it sounds crazy, but something was there, I don't know what, but I'm telling you for what it's worth something is out there, and it visited me, over and over. After this happened my life really changed, I traveled a great deal overseas, I moved, I changed my religion, lost a lot of weight. I saw and did things that I would have never imagined doing before. Again to this day it's never happened again, if it was sleep paralysis I think it would have happened again. This is very personal for me, and makes me shake a little still when I remember it, but I want to share it. Please let me know if you want more information or have any questions.
Regards,
Brad

Subject: My experience with shadow people.
This is my experience with shadow people. It was a long night before i had i school in the morning, so i decided to go to sleep early. I finally fell asleep but when falling asleep i found myself in a sleep paralysis. I was paralyzed in my sleep so that i could see and hear everything that was around me. I was beginning to panic. I hear my mom in the bathroom using the hair dryer. My door creaked open a little just so some light was in. I was looking in front of me and i saw this figure. It took the shape as if it had a cloak on, like it was death. I couldn't wake up from sleep paralysis for about an hour. I finally woke up and there was nothing there. I checked everything to see if i could make the shadow or anything to replicate it. I couldn't do it. Once more to try and prove it wrong i asked my mom if about an hour earlier if she was in the bathroom doing her hair. She replied to me yes. I know what saw wasn't something explainable. This happened years before i knew anything about shadow people. i heard of them a year ago. I also hear they are related to reptilian humanoids, which fucking terrifies me.
Thank you,
Dave

Subject: My roommate saw it too
I've been telling this story for around 12 years. I've had a lot of various unexplainable things happen to me but this is my only ghost story although now that I realize other people have seen it too I don't know what to call it.
I was getting into bed. My boyfriend was already asleep. As I pulled the covers up, I saw the silhouette of man wearing a hat standing at the foot of the bed watching me. I could FEEL him watching me. He was clearly outlined in the archway going from our room into the kitchen and clearly wearing a frikkin Hat of all things!! I was on my side and I kicked my Bf who was behind me to wake him up "Paddy! Paddy a ghost!" but he just mumbled and didn't wake up. I looked at it for awhile but there was no malice only curiosity so I eventually thought "**** it" and went to sleep. The next morning I asked everyone in the house if anything strange had happened to them the night before. They said "Like what?" and I said "If you have to ask..." When M came home from work I asked him the same thing and he immediately said "YES! There was man watching me at the foot of my bed last night!" I asked if he was wearing a hat "YES! He was wearing a hat!" It's the hat that's always bugged me over the years. He wasn't afraid of it either. We were all getting ready for a good haunting but nobody ever saw anything after that.
I only found out other people have seen the hat guy last night and that scared me more than he did. Apparently hat guy makes so many appearances that someone has written a book about it. There's even a wiki**&^#pedia article about it! When I saw "30's style fedora hat" tears started streaming down my face and didn't stop. I couldn't believe it. I knew he was real because my roommate saw it too but who could have guessed HOW real?!?!? I am flabbergasted. People can contact me if they want to. I'm happy to talk about my weird experiences or hear about other peoples'

Subject: my experience
My name is Adam; I'm 16 living in Melbourne. My experience happened last year in December. I was sleeping when I woke up to my dad going to the toilet. My soccer team was playing at the times so I decided to get up and check the scores. The game had just gone into half time so I went back to bed. I then switched on my bedside radio, and as I turned around and closed my eyes I thought I saw something float across the room. It was like a ball of fuzzy blackish-grey structure just moving across the room (at first I thought it was a moth). I quickly opened my eyes again to see what it was, that's when this big black shadow came towards and cast itself over me and started pushing me into the bed. I immediately shut my eyes and started praying. As I was praying it pushed me harder, so hard that it pressed me against the wall.
At the same time I was curious at what it looked like so I opened my eyes. I saw its head in front of my face. Its head had an alien head shape with no features. It was just a pitch black 3-dimensional figure with a torso but it didn't have legs, its lower body just faded away (like Casper). I kept praying and it finally left. I kept praying and finally went into I light sleep. By the time the morning came I felt it coming and pressing on me throughout my sleep and I kept praying every time it came. When I woke up and saw the morning light I felt relieved and exhausted.
The weird thing is I told my parents about what happened and my dad said that when he got up to the toilet last night, he thought he saw something black next to him. And my mum said she kept seeing something flashing across the hallway and living room whilst she was watching TV. To this day I have not seen anything or experienced anything like that but I sometimes feel that a presence is next to me up close to my face breathing or tickling my arm and ears.

A few months ago I was staying at my grandma's house in the living room and the kitchen door was open. Something caught my eye and I looked up to see a tall, dark, hooded figure walking in the kitchen, then it disappeared behind the door. I only saw it for about 2 seconds but it seemed to be walking quite slowly. I couldn't see any facial feature or hands or anything. Later that night when I went to bed I couldn't get to sleep because I felt like someone was in the room watching me. I never told anyone about this as I didn't think they would believe me.
Yesterday, my dad just told me that he was walking out of my grandmas bathroom and saw a tall black figure going down the stairs quite fast, and when he looked again, it was gone. I told him what I had seen a few months ago. These are the only two times I know of anyone has seen it.

Subject: Hatted shadow people
I don't want to drag this out. I was out on Thanksgiving Day at the local bar, but I said good-nite to my friends and decided I wanted to be home by 12:00 am. I walked by this house, where I believe this friend of mine was murdered. When I walked past this house, I noticed the screen door was always ajar. I never entered, all I know is that the wife was never found, and the husband took off. This Thanksgiving night was different. As I passed the house, the door was ajar and a gust of about 50 miles hit me on a calm night. I proceeded down the block and noticed there were hundreds, if not thousands of hatted dark shadows. I could not believe my eyes. I was scared, but proceeded to cross the street. The dark figures were everywhere and identical in shape. They walked regular, sideways, through trees, houses, cars, even through me, but you could not feel them. It seemed they were looking for something. I made it to my house, thinking they might be inside. Not one was in my abode. I looked out the window and they were gone. I went back outside and walked to the corner to see if they were going elsewhere. No, they were gone as if they were never really there in the first place. I never saw them again. I felt like Tim Allen, who said he wants a CAT scan.

Subject: My shadow person experience
My experience occurred this year (2010) a couple of days before Halloween. In fact, it was the night of a Harvest moon. A few friends of mine, including myself, decided to go out for a couple of Daiquiris and while driving back home we decided that we wanted to scare another friend of ours for fun. We drove to our friend's home and pulled up next to her car. (Be mindful that it was dark and the only lighting that was available was that from the moon. )
We were all supposed to get out of the car to scare our friend but three of us were too afraid at first because it was so dark. The driver of the car, T, decided to get out and signal for us to come and scare our friend. As T was knocking on the house door, a friend who was sitting next to me in the back seat said, " Look at that lil man, do ya'll see that lil man?" I ignored her, while looking down and playing with my newly purchased HTC to find the flashlight feature. However, the girl in the passenger side replied, "Girl what are you talking about?" Then she said again more frantically, "Look at that lil man! Look he is right there!" We both looked straight forward in the direction that Amy was pointing in and witnessed what appeared to be a short, dark shadow-like image facing us. It stood there for a couple of seconds, then moved quickly towards the other side of our friend's parked car. We immediately began screaming. I locked my door and screamed to the others to lock the doors. I tried to call my friend T who was knocking on the door to warn her of the "thing" we witnessed. T began to walk back towards the car and the "thing" began to flee just as T was passing her friend's parked car. The moment T got into the car she asked us why we were screaming. We explained to her what happened and still can not believe what we witnessed til this very day.

Subject: Story
I have a story about shadow people. I never thought much of it until I started doing some reading online after hearing other people talk about the phenomena. Personally I don't really believe in the paranormal but when I was a child some strange things used to happen. Electronic toys would go off by themselves, I saw lights flying around me at one point and the one I remember most often is the man in black. I would see this figure out of the corner of my eye sometimes in class or out walking around and even once he walked right up beside me. He was shadowy and wore a long black coat and always either had a black hat or hood covering his head and you could never see his face. This was never scary to me as a child.
One time I had a dream where I was in a golden wheat field and on the horizon of the hillside this black shadowy figure was approaching me. The dream ends there but when I was older around 10 years old I found myself in the same field with a friend of mine, we had been out there for hours. I saw this figure approaching me but it wasn't until after that I associated it to the dream. It turns out that the man in black was actually a police officer whose uniform and color was obscured by the heat waves.
I haven't seen shadow people in years and I'm now 21. I've tried experimenting in the last 5 years with a few hallucinogenic drugs (only two times). The first time I took a drug I was with my friend and I started to notice that he had shadow coming out of his eyes and mouth and that his hair was made of shadow. The second time was only a year and a half ago and this was with my girlfriend and I looked at her and the same thing had happened.
It's never scary to see either the shadow people or see other people as shadow people. I've been very interested in the last experience I had because up until that point I'd never associated what I was seeing with any kind of paranormal activity. Perhaps the shadow people we see in the corner of our eyes and those who I've seen while under the influence are lost souls? The people I've seen appear as shadow people have had traumatic experiences in their lives.
