So tonight I am at my friend’s house and I saw something out of the corner of my eye but brushed it off as nothing. Later on in the evening, I saw something again and turned all the way around to see a shadow type person. It looked like a man with no face but a perfectly distinctive body. It felt as if Eyes were boring into me but I didn’t see a face. I stared at it for about 2 minutes and it disappeared. I then was filled with a sense of resentment and dread which never happens to me I am usually laid back and carefree. This feeling has lasted a while. My friend also looked unnerved and distant and I asked her what was wrong without telling her my experience and she said she keeps seeing the same figure for the past couple of days and saw it the same time as me. Please help me process this and figure out what is going on! I’m so unnerved and confused...

Subject: Seen a shadow person
Late one evening, I was reading. My daughter's room was directly across from me. There was something in the doorway of her room. It didn't feel threatening but it was there: tall and darker than the entrance to the room and it seemed surprised to be spotted. It then faded into the room.
It was taller than a person and it seemed aware that I had noticed it.

My name is Tiffany. My friend Cheyenne emailed you yesterday at CheyenneYesterday@gmail.com about the dark being that has been appearing in my house.
It has been going on for only two weeks and I kept brushing it off since I was the only one seeing it. I am now aware that I am not the only one that sees this being. It terrifies me to know a dark shadow person is in my home. I try to think positively but it invades my mind and dreams filling me with terror. A feeling that I am not use to feeling. In the past, when I would come across a spiritual being, I would be calm and react to it positively but this one has found my most inner subconscious fears and used them to its advantage. I have seen Spiritual Entities most of my life and this has inspired me to become a Wiccan.
I am planning to cleanse my house of negative energy but this being has had its way on my anger, hatred, and fear to a point that I fear I may not be able to properly banish it to where it has come from. I pray someone can know a way to cleanse myself before I preform the rituals needed to steer the shadow being away. If anyone can help me by giving any idea of a proper self-cleansing of negative energy, please help. I am not one to ask for help but this is causing a terribly strain on my family, me, and my religion.
Thank you for giving me closure on what has been lurking and terrifying my friends and pets. (No one else in my family believes me of this being) Thank you so very much.

Subject: My Story: Aaron Hall
It’s kind of hard to believe most of what I read on your site, considering seeing shadow people is accompanied by sleep paralysis but I’m really no expert except to say it’s happened to me, many times, in my teenage years; even multiple times in one night.
My most memorable would be when I was about 15-17 years of age. I was living in Little Rock, Arkansas with my father. We lived in an older model house where I slept in the living room because I hated my bed. I never slept in a bed that was elevated off the ground. If I did, it was pushed up against a wall. This is how fearful I am of hostile sprits after seeing movies like ‘The Exorcist’ and such.
On this on particular night, I was on the couch. I kept a lamp in the corner of the room on for comfort as well as the TV, so you could imagine the room was fairly lit. I remember the feeling creeping up on me. It starts as the sound of running water or riding in a car with the windows down on the freeway. This is generally how it starts but this time was very much different and as always, I couldn't move AT ALL!!! Not a muscle. Somehow, I managed to get my eyelids open enough to see the room I was in. Towering over me was a man-like shadow figure. It had arms, shoulders, legs and a head but absolutely no facial features. I remember it so vividly as I stared at it, completely unable to move or alert my father or brother in the house. It slowly raised its hand and wave-motioned it over my face, kind of like but only slower. As he did this, my eyes became heavy and they shut. I WAS FORCED BACK TO SLEEP!!!
Still conscious, I listened for footsteps but heard none…and that was it?! I was not sure of its intentions however, I am curious to know what he did after he forced me back to sleep. The next morning, I woke up thinking to myself, 'Was that a dream?' No, no it couldn't have been, it was all too real. I remember seeing the TV on in the background and I know how to differentiate dreams from reality. It doesn't happen as often anymore but I’m always ready. I’m actually fascinated by these visitors and I hope for they visit soon. Crazy, isn’t it?
P.S. You do have my full consent and permission to use this story on your site. I would like to see if anyone has anything similar happen to them.

Subject: Why are they lurking around my sweet daughter :(
Approximately 2-3 weeks ago, I came home from work to find that my 9 year old daughter had accidently removed the finish on my kitchen table with nail polish remover. I was angry and sent her to her room.
Her Father and brother were asleep and I was downstairs doing bills. When I finished, I made my way upstairs.
As I walked up the stairs I heard what I thought was my daughter chanting. As I got closer to her room, I realized that she was not chanting, she was saying, "Leave me alone...leave me alone…", again and again. When my daughter saw me, she jumped in sheer fear. I never saw such a look of fear on my daughter. I of course sent her into our bed.
The next morning I asked her to explain in detail what she had seen. She explained that she saw a shadow on her desk. It had a hood from a side view then turned its head towards her to peer at her. She states seeing red eyes. She also said there was another shadow that was tall with long legs and moved quickly to hide. When my daughter told it to leave her alone, she heard, " Shhh...Shhhh...Shhh"
I did not see anything...I do listen to my daughter and believe her. I researched online. It explains all different types of shadow people. Apparently, the hood shadow person is the most evil. What the heck!!!!
My daughter also stated hearing the footsteps first and the dogs barking outside, then everything became quiet.
What do they want.....why do they lurk around my girl.

Subject: My Story
These happened back in 2009 -2010, I was on mat leave for my daughter who is now three.
My husband and I do not share a room because he snores very loudly and I cannot sleep, so the baby and I were in one room and he was across the hall in another room. I woke up with a feeling of intense panic. I don't know if I'd had a dream or what was going on but the feeling was so intense, I was in tears. I looked over at the baby; she was sleeping in her crib next to my bed but there was a shadow person leaning over her as if closely observing her. I jumped out of bed to get to her, but by the time I got to her, the thing disappeared. My daughter did not wake up. She appeared completely unaffected by its presence. I had the distinct feeling that the shadow was trying to scare me... targeting my fears of something happening to my first and only child.
My second experience with shadows, who seemed negative, also happened at night while I was in my room sleeping. My daughter was in bed with me; she was still just a baby. She was in bed with me because I was still so shaken about the night the shadow was leaning over her. I woke up with the feeling of ‘being watched’. I woke up and saw a very dark shadow standing by my bedroom door. I sat up in bed and grabbed the baby, then jumped up with the intention of running out of my room, past the thing, to my husband’s room. When I stood up, the damned thing charged up the aisle like it was going to tackle us (I was holding my daughter) but it passed us with a leap and disappeared.
I bought myself some nightlights and that seemed to keep them at bay but sometimes at night, while I'm sitting here, in my living room, alone, after everyone has gone to bed, I catch a fleeting glimpses of them in a doorway or out the window. I always carry a flashlight in my purse and have one on my nightstand. My daughter has two nightlights in her room, and just this week, I bought more nightlights that I've put in every room that doesn't already have one.
I have had some positive experiences with them too but those are for another email.
Thank you, Beverly

The first time I saw one I was three. It looked like black smoke. It came out of an electric output in the wall. It was small. Spoke to me in my head. Told me something was happening. It moved towards me and vanished.
I saw it again after a wreck I was in a few years ago. It looked like a person’s shadow. When I looked directly at it, it floated away and vanished. It changes shapes. It’s something most wouldn't understand.
Only saw it, dead-on twice. It’s always around.

I was about 8 or 9 years old when I saw this shadow. My parents, younger brother, and I lived in a duplex in Ogden Utah. This duplex always had an eerie feeling to it. This is one of the many experiences I had in this duplex, and I was not the only one.
Anyway this particular night my parents were going out, and had gotten a friend to watch my younger brother and I. She had made us some mac and cheese, we all sat in the living room eating when I saw this shadow. So I know that it was not the babysitter or my brother that created this shadow. This shadow appeared as a women like shape and walked along the wall standing upright. Just as a human walking into the room would have created a shadow along the wall from the kitchen light, only the only two people there were sitting on a different couch right next to me facing away from where the shadow appeared. There was no window that light could have come in and created this shadow. I did not see this from the corner of my eye, I was eating and looked up to see this clear as day. I did not want to scare the baby sitter so did not say anything to her.
My parents and I always believed the place to be haunted, only my parents had never seen a shadow like that or any they had experiences of their own. Anyway thanks, you can email me at bricketts3@gmail.com . I'm very curious about things like this, even more so after seeing shadowpeople.org .

Subject: Shadow person story
I remember being extremely confused about my experience with shadow people. I have only experienced it twice, however both experiences were extremely close time wise.
I was about four years old. I shared a bedroom with my sister, and it was pretty late in the evening. I woke up suddenly out of my slumber and heard a woman talking. I rolled over to look at my open bedroom door, assuming it was my mother. My room was very dark however, there was light cast onto the open door from the hallway light. What I saw on my door was a shadow woman, just standing. There was nothing to indicate her gender other than her voice. I clearly remember her saying "let's stay up late tonight, honey". At that moment a second shadow walked up to the first, grabbed her by her head, and then both shadows seemed to melt into the floor.
My father worked late nights so I hopped out of bed in excitement to see him. I walked into the living room to see my mom and sister quietly watching Snow White. I excitedly asked my mom where dad was and she told me he hadn’t come home yet. I asked her whom she was talking to in the hallway, and whom the other adult was. (Both shadows were very tall). She looked at me very confused and said I was dreaming. The whole experience was less than 2 minutes.
A couple nights later, I was lying in bed to go to sleep. I remember feeling uneasy and getting up to turn on my nightlight in the corner of the room. I turned it on, turned around to walk towards my bed and saw a tall dark humanoid figure standing in the corner near my bed. I instantly shrieked and again the figure seemed to melt into the floor. I was so frightened that I refused to sleep in my room for weeks. My parents being very concerned sold the house and we moved to a new neighborhood.

Sorry, I don't speak English very well. I am from Ecuador in South America so please, check my grammar if I have any mistakes.
I woke up and immediately searched the internet for information about what had happened to me last night and I found this site.
I woke up in the middle of the night and there was a shadow man sitting in my bed. I didn't feel scared, maybe because he wasn't looking at me. He was quietly looking at the white wall. He gave off non-threatening vibes. I think he did't notice that I was awake, and I just said to myself 'go back to sleep but don't forget this so you can find more about it in the morning'. I couldn't sleep all that well after that, and now I've woken up with a headache. I don't know how long it/he stayed.
If I had to describe him, I'll say he looked as a man, but completely black. Not blurry at all. I didn't see any kind of smoke. I don't think he had a face but the rest of him was in the right human proportion. He was darker than the darkness of the room, and he looked as if he was lost in thoughts and just resting sitting in my bed.
I've never heard about shadow people so I was worried, thinking that maybe it was an omen of death or something.

Subject: Shadow of The Thinker
When I was about 3 or 4 years old, I saw a shadow figure of a man sitting on a log in the middle of our living room floor. I remember looking up all the sudden and there he was. He was pitch black. I pointed at him and asked my parents what the man was doing but they couldn’t see him. He was posed exactly like “The Thinker” statue (I realized this a couple of years later while watching re-runs of Dobie Gillis with my Grandma). He didn’t disappear when I pointed and he wasn’t in a hurry to leave. He stayed just as long as I was willing to look. After a few minutes, I left the room with my mom and when I came back he was gone. He never made me feel afraid or threatened. If anything, he felt that he belonged there. It was like he wanted me to take a long hard look. As I’ve gotten older, the experience has stayed with me and I would think about it from time to time but lately it’s like I can’t stop thinking about it. I wondered if anyone else had seen a shadow figure like this so I searched: “shadow of the thinker sightings” and came across a post by someone on another site who described seeing a shadow man just like the one I saw. The post states, "when I sat up and saw the figure sitting there it looked just like the statue of The Thinker".
I would really love to hear from anyone who has seen the shadow man in the shape of "The Thinker" statue. The silhouette is very distinct. It's not a blob of mass, it's not a man bent over. It is clearly in the form of the famous sculpture. I give permission for my story to be uploaded to the Official Shadow People Archive. Please post my name and email address for anyone who wants to contact me and share a similar experience.

Subject: Shadow People experience?
I usually wake up early for work. It was 4:00 am EST when I felt the door to my room open slightly. I looked towards the door and could barely make out its silhouette in the dark. As I looked I could see a child's shadow between the door and the door frame.
At first I thought it was my 9 year old son trying to come in, so when I called out his name the child's silhouette disappeared and a shadowy adult hand appeared to close the door. I immediately got up, turned on the lights and opened the door, but nothing was there. I went to my sons room only to find him asleep.
My house has motion sensors, so I immediately ruled out any human involvement. Needless to say I was and still am shaken. This has never happened to me before.
Could this have been the shadow people? Does it make sense it felt like they tried to open a door? Why was there a kid and then an adult?

Subject: my shadow person visit
My husband and I were living in Myrtle Beach near a black water pond, it was incredible and we loved it. About two weeks after we moved there in the middle of the night we both woke up and there was a shadow man on the bedroom wall and we could see him directly and clearly. He wore a derby type hat and we could see him from the waist up, no glowing eyes or anything. He was on the wall by my side of the bed and near the foot of the bed. I got up to use the bathroom and walked right by him and when my shadow crossed his, his was darker. I felt he meant no malice but I did feel that he was judging us, weird right? It was still there when we went back to sleep.
We didn't talk about it until the next morning and my husband told me how shocked he felt when I walked past it and its shadow was darker than mine because the window was on his side of the bedroom and it can't be explained. It was only one night, one visit that I was aware of and I never felt scared. Again, I think it was there to judge us and I may never know why.
You have permission to share my shadow man encounter on your website.
Thanks,
Jane

July 2012
I was outside watering my plants. There was a full moon and the time was 8 p.m. There was so much moonlight, I could see every part of my yard except for a dark corner on the northeast part of the property. I watered that dark corner and turned my back on it to continue watering. The moon was behind me and as I looked down, I noticed a shadow on the ground. At first, I thought it was my shadow, but I noticed it was wearing a cap and when I noticed a second shadow without a cap, I moved one step to the left. The second shadow moved with me and that was when I realized that first tall, thin shadow with a cap was something else.
I turned to see if someone was there, behind me, but I saw nothing. I turned back and at that moment, I saw the shadow get close to my shadow. It was so real, I moved and bumped my face against a bush. It really felt as if that shadow sidled up to me and was going to bump into me. I quickly ran to turn off the water and have never watered at night since. I didn't feel any sense of evil just a surreal feeling of having stepped briefly into another dimension.

Subject: 2nd Shadow Person Viewing in Columbus, Ohio
My name is Toni and I live in Columbus, Ohio in the downtown area. I am experiencing the presence of a Shadow Person, as I sit here at the computer.
About two weeks ago, I prayed for protection from harm and evil spirits. About 4 days ago, I was sleeping on my sofa and had to use the bathroom. As I was leaving the restroom and went to lay back down, I jumped 3 feet in the air because I saw a 10 foot tall, cloudy figure of a man with his arms extended up, against the same wall that the sofa sitting against. I am only seeing this entity in the evening hours and overnight. He is still here.
About 4 years ago, in the same apartment building where I live now (but in a different unit), I said the same prayer and as I finished the rather long verses, I looked over and I saw a 10 foot tall, charcoal black shadowy floating figure at my front door looking directly at me. I was in too much shock to move so I just stared, the entity whisked away through the front door and I have never seen it again. A few days later I saw a shadow person with a hat on it. It eventually went away. This figure is more like a rag doll but big. I am trying to figure out what it wants with me but also how to get rid of it.

So, I have the same nightmare for about 10 years now. I'm wherever I fell asleep in. If I'm at home, the dream takes place at home; if I'm not, it takes place wherever it is I'm spending the night.
I'm aware of the fact that I'm not awake and it's like I was looking at myself sleeping or something. There is this guy standing right beside me, looking down at me. He has a human shape but no face at all. He is all dark and he just stands there staring at me. He doesn't say a word, doesn't make any move or anything but, still, I feel this horrible fear, as if something really terrible was about to happen because ‘he’ was there. And yet, I can't move. I know I'm dreaming, and I can't move, I can't scream, I can't wake up, I can't even look away. And then, suddenly, I wake up. But only to realize that I didn't really ‘wake up’. I'm stuck in another dimension of the dream, and that ‘thing’ is still beside me, looking down at me, and then he starts laughing. And then the dream repeats. I keep thinking I woke up, but I didn't, and it goes on until I actually manage to really wake up. When I finally do, I am sweating, crying and terrified that he is still there.
I don't know why I have this dream, and I can't link it to anything that goes on in my life. It does not happen because of stress or important events, it just comes randomly, then I have the dream for about one or two weeks, and it goes away again. I have it ever since I was 7 or 8, and I'm just desperate because I feel like it's gettin' worse. If anyone has any idea of why this is happening or what exactly is happening, please email me. I'm just so scared. And the shadowman seems to like that.

Subject: Hooded Shadow Figure and Sleep Paralysis
In May of 2006, I moved to the Northshore of Lake Travis in Austin, TX. I rented a waterfront home with a large 2 and a half acre yard. It was in a very remote area, and the few homes that were in the vicinity were only used occasionally.
It only took a couple of days after I moved in to realize that something "wasn't right" in this house. I could not explain it; I just knew there was something going on that I could not see. I starting hearing disembodied voices and I suddenly became petrified of the dark. When I would arrive home after sunset, I would physically run inside. I do not know where this came from, I jokingly referred to it as my "spidey senses".
Then one afternoon, I laid down to take a nap. I suddenly woke up, but I wasn't able to move or open my eyes. Some people may dismiss this as sleep paralysis, but it wasn't. Something was holding me down. I started saying the Lord's Prayer in my mind and asking for God's protection. My eyes flew open and I saw a hooded figure on top of me, it WAS the reason I could not move or open my eyes. I startled it, and it turned to flee out of the room. I sprang up and ran after it. I wanted to know what this thing was.
I cannot say it had legs, because I didn't look down to it’s feet. It had a hood, and the best description I can give is a shadow figure of a hooded monk. The top of its head actually curled back like a dollop of whipped cream. It was a black three-dimensional figure that was semi-transparent. When it 'ran', it did not move smoothly. The only thing I have ever witnessed that can best describe it is the second hand movement on a Rolex watch. The second hand on Rolexes is supposed to sweep as opposed to normal watches. However, if you look very closely at one you can see that sweep has a subtle tick in it. That's what this figure's movement looked like. The figure itself was short, between 3-4 feet. And I could sense it was afraid that I was awake.
It made a sharp turn at the bedroom door, scurried out the front door, and disappeared. It was very fast, because I was in a full sprint and it quickly put distance between us. I moved out of that house a few days later, and never returned.
There are just somethings that we cannot understand, and never will.

Subject: My experience
I was 13 or 14 years old, it was a hot summer night in the Shenandoah Valley Virginia. I had two small dogs that always slept at the foot of my bed. The only light coming into my bedroom was just a little moonlight from a window positioned at the lower right side of my bed.
I was almost asleep when I felt my pillow being pulled from under my head. I thought I was just close to the edge of the bed and it fell off, but when I reached for it, I realized I was far from the edge. As soon as I thought of the strangeness of what happened, my dogs began growling, growling like they were about to attack. I sat up and reached down to pet one, in hopes of calming him down. His fur was sticking straight up on his neck. Animals don't normally do this unless they are truly spooked. Then I saw it! Out of the corner of my room was a silhouette of a man blacker than night. It was leaning in front of the window. I could see its head, arm and torso. Its legs were not in view of the window. It swayed back and forth slightly; its arm was swinging along with its sway. My dogs, by this time, were full blown barking and growling. I had (and still have) this wave of terror that washes every part of my being.
I scrambled for my lamp beside my bed, knocking it over and shattering the bulb. When I looked back at it, it calmly moved back into the darkness. I darted towards the light switch, flipping it on. It was gone. My dogs stopped growling. I didn't sleep for the next two days. I still wonder when will I see it again. I know somehow I will.

Hi I am Jihan and I have lived in Cleveland for most of my life and have seen Shadow people as long as I can remember. It stopped once I left my mother’s house and moved away to college and continued once I came back.
I always see them in the same way; waking up or before falling fully asleep. It is a tall male that seemed to grow with me. It was seemed to be taller than me every year until I grew a foot taller in height and then started wearing a hat. He had no facial figures and was dark with a white lining around him. At first, it only used to peek from around the corner at me. Later, he went to standing at the foot of the bed or pacing there until eventually standing beside the bed.
It had to be the most scary thing that has ever happen to me in my life. Although this person has never seemed harmful or menacing, I was always overcome with fear and paralyzed. I would feel so heavy that it was hard to move, talk, scream or make any noise. It never harmed me; it always just observed. He would only flee when my voice found me or when I could move again, after much struggling. When I moved into another room in the house, it happened less frequently and stopped all together when I moved out of the house until last night!
Now I am living with my boyfriend and his son in a new apartment. I saw a shadow person the first time in months. My shadow person came back and seemed enraged. I felt the same fear magnified and heavy feeling on my limbs. But to my surprise the shadow person went to my boyfriend's side of the bed and reached out to him. I mustered enough strength to cover him and for the first time, the shadow person touched me!!! It felt as if he slapped my arm away. After another wave of rage, he disappeared through the wall it. I don't see the shadow person as a bad or evil being.

So I am 14 and since I was little girl, I have seen tall people in the shadows, usually around six foot, skinny, and they wear a long coats that goes to their feet. They were first in pairs and would look at me as though they wanted to tell me something. Until now, I've been a skeptic.
One appeared in my room as I was getting in bed (yesterday). The air around me grew cold, and tasted like metal. I was terrified. I knew that this thing was going to do something to me. All I wanted to do was run, but I couldn't.
The figure was wrapped in seething shadows. It reached out for me. I couldn't move, couldn't speak. It grabbed me around the neck and squeezed. As everything began to become dark, it released me and said, "Now is not the time." It was husky and was barely audible. The figure then turned around and went through the wall. I stared at the wall for what felt like hours unable to comprehend what had just taken place. In the past, they only observed never doing anything to hurt me. Now that I think about it, they helped me with more things than I can count.
Also, please post this on the site. I want others to see what these things are capable of.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Also, I thank this site for letting me and everyone else open up and tell someone about them when no one else believes us, than you.

Subject: Shadow People or am I losing my Mind
I am a 59 year old female living in Florida. I started seeing the shadow people about eight months ago. I thought I was losing my mind. I didn't even know that other people existed like me.
One night, when I had turned the light off in my bedroom, (I like my bedroom very dark so I was lying with my eyes close) I opened my eyes to see what time it was. As I looked towards the door, I saw a black figure. I couldn't tell if it was a male or female. It seemed to be hovering over my bed, it moved from one side to the other. I was laying down just watching. As soon as I sat up, it disappeared.
Another time, I was lying with my boyfriend and had just turned off the lights to go to sleep. I closed my eyes then opened them again. Coming from our bedroom door was a floating figure with many hands, like it was trying to come towards us. Another figure that came from the bottom towards the figure with the hands, seemed to stop it. I sat up and as soon as I did, it totally disappeared.
For some reason I am never afraid. I don't feel like it is evil. This just happens when I am lying down with my eyes opened. As soon as I sit up, any images disappear. I have since started sleeping with a small light that shines from the kitchen. Yes it bothers me even though I'm not really scared. I just rather not see them anymore.

Subject: Top hat man sighting
You have permission to upload this account to the Official Shadow People Archive. Here's my story:
Location: Vienna, Austria Time: Between Christmas and New Year 1992-1993, roughly six pm.
A friend of ours invited some of us to dinner one evening. My friend lives alone and I was the first to arrive.
After I rung the bell, my friend opened the door to his apartment and I gave him a hug. Over his shoulder, I saw a multitude of what looked like bats flying back and forth in his bedroom at the end of the hall. The bedroom light was on and these little black creatures flew through the air like mischievous children looking for the next opportunity to cause mayhem.
I craned my neck to get a better look and as I did, all of these creatures suddenly converged into a tall, skinny black figure that reminded me of Abraham Lincoln wearing a tuxedo. The figure had a cane at its side and wore an exaggeratedly tall top hat. The figure was two-dimensional; as if cut from a piece of black construction paper. (Bear in mind, all of this transpired within the course of about two seconds.)
I blinked to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I looked at it and the figure stood there 'looking' back at me. At this point, I decided I absolutely needed to walk back there and find out what this was all about. The very second I stepped over the threshhold, the figure ran away! I saw the tail of its claw-hammer coat, its skinny leg, and the end of its cane as it darted out of sight. It seems I scared it away, and I somehow regret not having had the opportunity to get closer to it. I was curious about it, and it was scared of me.
At first, I said nothing to my host because I hadn't really processed what I had just witnessed. As he helped me remove my coat, I just casually asked whether anyone had arrived before me. When he said no, I told him that I thought I saw someone in the back. When he insisted there was nobody else there, I finally admitted what I had just seen. He hesitated for a moment and looked at me very curiously, then told me that I saw what he referred to as a spirit that he said lived with him and which he had named 'tall black'. He added that no one else had ever seen it but him, and that it was very shy. He said there were a few other spirits living in his apartment and that he was used to them.
I haven't seen this figure again since.

I have been seeing shadow people ever since I was 10 and I'm 11 now. I see them for a split second and I run like hell or scream. They mostly were black blobs but recently I have seen a man with a hat. They stay for a split second and disappear. I hear taps on my window and I feel like I'm always being watched or touched. I feel a creepy stare watching me. I feel like something is going to jump out on me. My friends see them too.

Subject: weird experience
I live in a house where a new part is built; a new building and the old building. The old building is higher than the other so the attic of the old building is slightly higher than the other one but some mice can go to the other side. I sleep in the new building for the record.
One night, I was sleeping and suddenly, around 2.30, I was awakened by mice running around above my chamber that crawl through small holes. (It is a space where nobody can come, thus completely closed to humans.) I paid no attention to it so I slept on. About 5 minutes later, I heard knives sharpening. I did my light to see, stood up, looked around for a recorder or something like that (some lame practical joke), found nothing, looked into the other room and saw nobody. I looked up and I realized that the sound came above me. It was weird to hear, knowing that nobody can go there, especially round half past 3.
The sound went from my room to the other. I followed the sound and it went to the other room five to six metres from where it started and then returned back to my room; and suddenly it was gone.
A small week later, I wake up again around the same time. I heard it again but this time it went 5 times from my room to the other one. That was the last time I ever heard it. This was in the winter of 2007 and to this day, I don't know what it was and it will remain a mystery.

This happened about 18 years ago when I was about 17. It was the early hours of the morning about 4 or 5 am, still dark outside. I woke up facing the wall in my bed which was against the wall, I woke up because I could sense someone was creeping in my room, I was expecting it to be my dad sneaking in to steal one of my cigarettes, which he sometimes did when he had had a drink. Anyway, I then felt this person sit down on the bed next to me and start tickling my ear, so I turned around fast, still expecting it to be my dad but instead saw a shadow or silhouette. All of a sudden, it slowly moved back to a standing position and then crouched down and disappeared.
The shadow looked to me to be the shape and size of a young boy around the age of about 10 or 11… something like that. I didn't feel threatened at all but I was scared just because that's not what I expected, and had never seen something like that before. The shadow seemed as shocked as me when I turned around and saw it.
I know I didn't dream it because I stayed awake in my bed after that until it got light outside, then when it was light I got the courage to sit up and look under my bed because that's where it seemed to go, but there was nothing there, so I got up and went to work. The door was shut in my room so no one came in or out so I didn't have a clue what it was. That was the only time I ever seen a shadow.

Subject: I saw a shadow person in front of me!
I was watching a cartoon in my living room. Then I looked to my right and I saw a shadow figure in the hall. At first, I thought it was my dad trying to scare me but there was no one there. I looked up, then in front of me and then behind me. Only my mom was there, sitting in the couch. No person or thing could produce that shadow.
So it looked like his whole body had a hood but it was a shadow person. My mom also saw the hooded person. She got scared and called my dad. He came but the shadow had disappeared. I don’t remember if I saw it leave or not but when my dad arrived and checked the alarm, no one had entered and the shadow had disappeared

Subject: My first experience
Hi,
I just did a search and found this website (shadowpeople.org).
I'm a 35m and had my first experience with a shadow entity yesterday morning.
It was about 3:30 am and I woke up having an eerie feeling of being watched from my closet which is next to the right side of my bed. I stared in the dark closet for 10 seconds but observed nothing unusual so I went back to sleep thinking nothing more of it. I, again, woke for no apparent reason about 4 am and was shocked/terrified to open my eyes to a pitch black, featureless, human-like form next to my closet and facing me. It was about one foot in front of the white wall background. It was about the width of a 185 pound human and about 5'9" or so tall. It was like an object that didn't belong in my room, yet there it was and it felt very dead/lifeless. After a quick one second observation, I threw the covers over my head then thought to myself that I have to know if it's real or not so a few seconds later, I bravely looked again but saw nothing in my room.
I decided to get up out of bed quickly, turn the light on and get on the computer until day light. I told my roommate about what happened and she told me she's been seeing these shadows for the last four months, but didn't tell me because I don't care to ‘hear about that stuff’.
I don't feel it's a good idea to sleep with the lights off anymore; but I'll probably do it again in hopes of observing this again to get more details if possible; being I'm a scientific type person.
Yeah, publish if you think it's worth it!

This happened to me a few months ago.
My mom and I were driving into our complex and as we approached our house, I saw what looked like a black shadow of a little girl running into my house. You could clearly see she was about 5 years of age, wearing a dress and had her hair in pig tales. I was very shocked and asked my mother if she had seen the same thing I had. She continued to deny that she saw anything but she was acting very different; like she knew something about this and was very uncomfortable. No one else in my family has seen this shadow person other than me.

Subject: My Experience
About 20 years ago, I awoke to see a large black shadowy form of a man standing in the bedroom door, faceless, large in stature. I immediately looked to my partner, who slept to the right of me, to see if it could be her; she was laying next to me. She then came to in a jolt, very upset, saying someone was whispering in her ear. All this happened in seconds. I then flipped on the bed lamp and searched the apartment thinking that we might have had an intruder. No one was there. I was afraid but acted assertive, all the hair on my body was standing up. I asked my partner what was being whispered in her ear, she said it sounded like the name, 'Edgar'.
I have thought about this for years and probably would have dismissed it as a hallucination accept for the fact that she awoke in such distress out of the blue, with no provocation from me. If you would like to publish this, be my guest.

Subject: From Behind The Bedroom Door
When I was a young girl of about 9 or 10 years old, a shadow person would come to visit me in my bedroom just about every night when I went to bed. He was actually what is described as a ‘hat man’. He was tall, wore a brim hat and a trench coat. He would peer from behind the bedroom door over and over again all night long while I was stricken stiff with fear in my bed. He never made any attempt to come from behind the door (at least not while I was awake) or any attempt to communicate with me…he would just keep peeping from behind door.
I read, in one of the stories in your main, that the ‘shadow people’ like to watch you sleep (this is all new information to me) so knowing this now makes me wonder if ‘he’ was peeping to see if, or when, I’d fallen asleep and then come from behind the door.
I remember crying most nights to my parents asking if I could come sleep with them; the answer was always ‘no’ or sneak across the hall to my brothers room when I could muster the courage (for which I would always be punished the next morning). I don’t recall ever telling my parents about the ‘hat man’; I guess I didn’t expect them to believe me.
Today I was googling a movie called, “Shadow People” and came across several posts about this supernatural being. I thought, up until today, (I am now 44 yrs old) that this was something that only happened to me. To say the least, I am thrilled to find out that I am not crazy.
I don’t remember how or when he went away, I just grew up and never saw him again but I never forgot him and have told select people over the years of my experiences with him. To date, I am still very much afraid of the dark.

Subject: Shadow man with a suit and top hat.
It happened in 1987 when I was 23 years old. I was still living at home at the time. It was almost morning so I was able to see clearly. I had been sleeping and something woke me up. I don't remember what it was that woke me up, but it was almost as if I could feel him staring at me. I sat up in bed and that's when I saw the tall dark shadow figure at the foot of my bed. It was a tall lanky man (6') and he had on a black old fashion suit with a top hat. He was still and he was just staring at me. I was able to see his eyes, but not the other facial features. I remember the fear that I felt when I saw him at the foot of my bed. I thought maybe I was dreaming so I rubbed my eyes, but when I opened them again, he was still at the foot of my bed staring at me. I was so scared! I pulled the blankets over my head and when I looked again, he was gone.
I then ran to my parent’s room and told them what had happened. They dismissed it as a bad dream. A few weeks later, I was changing the furniture in my room around and I noticed a hole under the wooden boards in the floor. So I decided to investigate the hole and I found a small square black and white photo of a tall lanky man wearing a black suite with a white shirt. He did not have a hat on. He was about 6' tall in the picture and almost reached the ceiling. I showed the picture to my parents and I told them he looked like the man that had been at the foot of my bed a few weeks earlier. They then told me that a man had lived in this apartment prior to us moving in and that he had died in the apartment. I have always wondered if that had been the man that scared me so many years ago?
Thank you.
Addendum
Thank you for getting back to me. My old house was built in 1930 so he most likely was the first person to live in that apartment during the era when they wore those types of hats. From: Bill

Subject: Shadow people
My FIRST experience was late in 2007, a few months after brain surgery to remove a benign tumour. It was at work. I saw what appeared to be a person with no visible features. I described it at the time as a 3-D shadow. It was unlike a normal shadow. It was standing in the middle of an aisle. I looked away for a brief moment then looked back and it was gone. I thought it was just my imagination but they started to appear more frequently. I wasn't scared, just curious as to what they are.
Another day I was driving to work early in the morning and I saw one run across the road in front of me. I slammed on the brakes but there was no one there. (The freaky thing about this one is, that approx. 18 months after seeing this shadow, a motorcyclist was killed in the very same spot.)
There is no pattern to the sightings. They appear randomly anywhere and everywhere. One time, I saw one standing beside my wife whilst she was washing the dishes. I told her but she dismissed it as my imagination. Her thoughts quickly changed when a cup lifted from the side of the sink and fell into the water.
I have had numerous other weird things happen to me which I cannot find a logical explanation for. One night, I had a tug of war with my doona whilst lying in bed. I woke up in the middle of the night to find my doona around my ankles. As I lifted it back up, someone or something was tugging at it (trying to remove it) I yelled out an obscenity and it stopped.
The worst experience I had was in a motel room in Echuca Victoria. I woke in the middle of the night to use the men’s room. When I went back to bed, I couldn't go back to sleep and I had an uneasy feeling as if someone was watching me. I looked to the side of me and I saw (the hat man) a huge figure with a long coat and a large wide brimmed hat. It then put both hands around my neck and began to strangle me. I couldn't talk, yell, or move. I managed to kick my legs and it then disappeared.
I don't know what these things are or why they chose me. Perhaps someone can shed some light on my experiences.

I'm going to share with you a couple of weird appearances I've had of these sublime creatures.
My first sighting happened when I was around 5-6 years old. I remember the sighting vaguely, so the description may not be accurate...
I awoke in the darkness one night. The reason: I have never known. I remember walking over to the curtains, and opening them. I couldn't shake this feeling of curiosity/anxiety. Opening the blinds, I remember looking down into the streets. At the time, my family lived in Birkenhead (Wirral, England) and the street lights along my road never seemed to work. Looking down into the darkness, I remember noticing a tall void in the darkness, like a piece of the natural energy had been replaced with...well, nothing. Upon observing the figure in greater detail, I noticed movement where the head should have been and a pair of eyes (Red, Orange, I don't know. My colour blindness is an incredible hindrance .. >.<) appeared for a fraction of a second, before my memory cuts off. Whether this was or was not a "Shadow Person" I really don't know, because I maintained eye contact with it for a least 2-3 seconds before I can't remember anything. I also remember a piece of dark apparel, possibly a hat, above the void.
I did not tell my parents of the encounter at least until I was ten, when I was watching an episode of ‘Most Haunted’. (Ever since the experience, I've always been a fan of all things spiritual/paranormal) A boy in the interview claimed he saw a similar creature outside his window, also wearing a hat and brandishing a pair of red eyes.
The second occurred when I was 9 years old. I was lying on the bed in my sister's room, when I noticed something move in my peripheral vision. I got up to investigate, when I noticed a dark cloud/figure shoot down the stairs. I looked down the bottom but there was nothing there. I told my sister what had happened, but the only thing to come was weeks of mockery. Since then I really haven't told many people, with the exception of my girlfriend when she started telling me of waking up in the middle of the night, barely able to move and experiencing weird hallucinations. I won't go into details, as I've referred her to this site and she should be in contact soon.
I hope this will help in the tiniest bit in enlarging your understanding of these bizarre apparitions. Many thanks, Aaron.

Dear SPorg,
I have had many experiences with seeing shadowy figures since I was small.
However, there is one sighting that I definitely (well, hopefully) knew who the being is.
I was in the galley kitchen of my parents’ condo standing in front of the sink with my mom right next to me washing dishes.
As I was standing there, I felt someone walk behind and bump into me.
The walkway between counters was tight. I turned and looked at my mom. I said nothing. She said that it was my dad who passed away about six months before (really can’t remember exactly the timeframe). I turned to left to the hallway leading to the bedroom and saw the black shadowy clumpy figure move towards the bedroom. The shadowy figure had a stipple effect to it, meaning it appeared to be made up of many dots. I am 99.99% sure it was Dad. My mom immediately told me that he sat beside my mom’s bed each night. My father adored my mom and was worried about what would happen to her after he was gone. I guess true love does not end at death.

Ok, I have always had paralyzing dreams since I was a child and still do. When I was a child, this man in a black hat would come in my room and come to me while I was paralyzed. He would take his finger, poke it in my back, and twist it around and around. The next thing I know, I woke up and my back was sore. I don't know if it was a dream or one of these shadow people. I used to have a lot of hallucinating dreams at my parents’ house when I was a kid and growing up.

Subject: The Black Man
I was young when I saw 'the black man' as I called him, about 3 years old. My family lived in a double-wide trailer with my parents’ bedroom at one end of the house while I was at the other end. It was always during the night when I saw him.
My bed faced the door to my room that my parents left open, just in case of fire and I couldn't open the door to get out. I do not recall the first time I saw him but in the beginning, every night I would lay awake and watch the darkness past the open door. I remember seeing a tall, silhouetted, black figure of a man standing in my doorway. He never moved, never spoke, he just watched me as I pretended to be asleep and terrified that he saw me 'seeing him'. This must have went on for weeks, months even. Every night, he would stand at my door as my little heart pounded and my eyes grow wide as I realized I was looking at someone looking at me. I never moved and never spoke when I saw him.
Then one night, I remember being filled with a particular sense of dread. 'The black man' was at my door as usual, when this night I closed my eyes tight and tried to imagine him away. It was then that I felt the hands on my small body. I was being inappropriately touched by him. I never opened my eyes and pretended I was asleep. I remember feeling tears rolling down my cheeks as I silently shook and prayed for him to go away. Terror does not begin to cover what I felt for the time that he appeared to me. After the molestation, I never saw him again. I have since moved from that double-wide and am now 21 years old. I still have dreams of what happened to me, but I tell very few people my true story for fear of ridicule or disbelief from others.
The really scary part of my story is that it happened and other people are reporting similar stories of these entities. They are out there and they are malicious.

Subject: story- you may share this story
Two weekends ago, I was at work. I work at a kennel for boarding dogs. I went up front and washed my hands so I could eat a snack. I came back into the kennel area and was leaning against the door listening to the radio. The dogs were also all barking; this is normal. All at once, the radio, which was on a good, reliable station, went to 100% white noise and the every single dog stopped barking. This never happens. I was filled with such a feeling of panic that I open the door and went outside. This is also rare because I don't scare easily, and would consider myself very brave. I happened to glance down at my hand and see dried blood smeared all over the top of my thumb and the part of my hand between my thumb and pointer finger. I thought this was odd since I had just been washing my hands and hadn't touched anything since.
I also worked the next day which was Sunday. That day I also saw blood on the same part of my hand, only this time it was fresh and there was even more. I did not have a cut and had not been touching the dogs. The following weekend I was bit by an unprovoked dog in the exact spot the blood had been! It was a very bad bite, and I even fainted afterwards. When I was out my co-worker and boss, who were there at the time, said I was saying things but they couldn't remember what. I also remember dreaming of very vivid things but don't remember what. I don't know if that is an important detail.
The Thursday after all of this happened, my friend Kayla, who is genetically very tuned into the frequencies of the spirit world, saw a shadow-like figure standing behind me. She was looking directly at it and then saw it go into the wall. She would not lie about this. Later that day, during track practice, my two friends and I went on a long distance run around town. We were then threatened by a man who came at us with a large knife. None of us got hurt.
Could the thing my friend saw be warning me of things? I also know that things often happen in threes, so is something very big and bad going to happen to me? Thanks and please believe this story.

Subject: Shadow encounter
It was 2005 and my wife had been assigned to work graveyard shift at the hospital she worked at. Sometimes I would stay up to see her off to work late at night and then hop onto the computer for a bit. Our computer was in the "garage" which was converted into a den. The garage door was covered only in thin paneling so outside noises were heard easily.
It was about 4 am one morning and my 2 chihuahuas started barking as if someone was at the front door or in our front yard. My first thought was someone was trying to break into my car. So I went to the front door and simultaneously opened the door and turned on the porch light, ready to beat up a burglar. The dogs were going nuts. To my surprise a shadow was walking past my house, almost on the sidewalk, but about 2-3 feet onto my lawn, hence the dogs barking. It was man-sized, ie, not tall or short like some and was blacker than the night. When I opened the door and turned on the light it just turned its head to give me a glance as it kept walking. The hair on my arms and back of my neck stood on end. It was terrifying even though it was not really interested in me, aside from the fact that it glanced my way. It did not stare at me or stop; it kept walking away from me and turned to face forward after only a passing look. Once it was clear that it wasn't coming towards me and turned away from me, I slammed the door shut and prayed immediately for protection for my home and family.
After about 30seconds of the door being closed, the dogs stopped barking, my fear eased, and it was over.
Just typing the recount of that morning gives me the chills. I think it was a chance encounter as I and my dogs have not seen a shadow or felt that presence since then. While the shade did not seem inherently evil, it was scary and my dogs confirm to me that I was not hallucinating. I hope this helps anyone with a similar encounter to know that they are not crazy.
