My parents report a shadow-folk encounter in the house where they lived when I was born. Apparently, one of my parents was attending to me, and the other was sitting in the living room. Mom saw a person walk through the hall, and spoke to it, thinking it was my dad. Dad saw a shadow move through the kitchen, and spoke to it thinking it was my mom. When both realized that the other was nowhere near where this shadowy humanoid form had been when they saw it, they simultaneously said to one another, "Please tell me that was you I just saw." But of course, it wasn't.

When I was very little--about two or three--we lived with my grandmother. I slept in the room with her, first in a crib, and then in her bed. When I slept in the crib, I remember seeing small humanoid figures that looked as if they were made of black plastic that would wander toward my crib. This happened several times, and I was always too filled with dread to cry out. When I began sleeping in the bed, I saw a shadowy male figure every night who stood in the doorway. His presence, however, made me feel safe and comfortable. He seemed to be a jovial entity.

When we moved into the house where I did the bulk of my growing up, I saw a shadow person in my room most nights. It was a shortish male figure with a hat like the guy on the Quaker oatmeal box. He terrified me, and I slept with the light on for years, because I found that if I did, I did not see him so often.

In the hallway, it always felt like you were being watched--especially by my room. I am not the only one to notice this. My parents and four of my friends, independently of one another, also noticed the phenomenon. One night when I was about 17, I got up to get a glass of water from the kitchen. On the way back to my room, I was filled with a sudden sense of dread. About a second later, I saw a shadowy masculine figure pass across the hall and through a wall.

The last time I saw a shadow person, I was about 20 years old and coming home from an evening class at a junior college. I had to drive across a bridge to get home. As I was coming to the bridge, I was again gripped by a sense of dread--as I had been a few years before in my house--and just after, saw what looked to be a woman run/float across the bridge. I almost drove my car off the bridge, thinking I was about to hit someone. But then the figure disappeared into thin air on the other side of the road. Strange thing is, around that time, a woman who was taking food to her husband who worked third shift at a paper mill or some such out there, DID drive her car off that bridge, and was killed. It makes me wonder if she had seen the same thing I did, but wasn't so lucky.

Honestly, I'm getting a little freaked out in the retelling of these events.
