Hi,

My name is Ashli. I have witnessed what you call a "Shadow Person." About 7 years ago, I saw something that at the time, I didn't know there was a term for.

I was in 8th grade, it was the middle of winter time. I was doing my math homework upstairs in my parent's living room. I had run out of lead for my mechanical pencil, so I ran downstairs to get some. I was alone in the basement, all of the lights were off except for the light in the room that I was in. There was just enough light escaping the room to illuminate a small portion of the hallway.

As I turned to exit the room I saw, straight on, an all-black figure. It looked like a solid outline of a person, but not a typical shadow. It looked three dimensional, as if it were a tall skinny person dressed in spandex clothing so that you could not see any physical features, like hair, or even an opening for a mouth or eye sockets.

The first thing that I noticed was the positioning of the hand. The fingers were spread apart, with the arm in a runner’s stance as if it were ready to run. The figure looked frozen, as if it couldn't move. It was taller than me. I saw it from a distance but it reached the third hinge on the door frame. I only saw it for a split second before it took off faster than anything I've seen naturally in life. It was there and gone in a fraction of a second. There were no facial features. The figure never turned its head to look at me but yet, I had a sense that it knew that I was looking at it. It seemed afraid of me. It seemed like it didn't want to be seen. I didn't feel threatened by it. It ran out of sight. When I realized that what I had just seen was no one in my family I immediately screamed for help and ran up the stairs.

I didn't think it was anything paranormal at first, as it was too life like. It was solid black, not see through like a stereotypical ghost. My dad searched the entire basement under beds, behind couches, flipping over mattresses to find an intruder, but we never found anyone. As it was winter my parents had plastic coverings over the windows to keep out the winter draft. None of the plastic had been removed from the windows, no tracks in the snow outside indicating a break in.

In recent years, the thought of what I had seen, haunts me to this day. I've done some research on my own and have been overwhelmed and frightened by the similar stories as mine. My father has a masters degree in psychology, so I've been taught that there is a rational explanation for what I witnessed. I don't know what I saw, but I know that I saw something that reason hasn't been able to explain. My parents still live in that house. However, I have only witnessed the figure once. Strange things do occur in the house that are unexplainable such as the TV turning on and off by itself in the same area that the figure was seen. The image is burnt into my mind to this day. I hope my story helps give answers to some questions that you are seeking.
