I thought I'd piss in my pants the first time I came face to face with a ghost but, surprisingly, I didn't. Well, ok... it helped that it wasn't a nasty spirit or anything :).

A friend of mine told me he was getting spooked in his new house. The last house his family had lived in was "haunted" (a mischevious spirit... things disappearing and reappearing, secured shelves falling off the walls, planks leaning against the wall made to fall suddenly in the opposite direction... family member there to see it or not... etc) and they'd moved to get away from that sort of thing. A few weeks after they'd moved in to the new place, my friend discovered that the motion detectors would go off in empty rooms, he'd hear another person moving about in the house when he was alone, and a strong feeling of being watched...etc).

I went over to see for myself if I could feel anything. I was told by a Santeria priestess that I was a natural medium. So, I guessed I should pick up *something*. And I did. I instructed him to give me a tour of the house but not to tell me the areas where the most activity seemed to take place. I picked the main staircase as a favorite spot. The second time, I walked the house alone and as I put my hand on the banister of the staircase, I felt... don't know how to describe it... but I looked up and sure enough, *it* was standing right there above me. I couldn't make out a clear form... just something vaguely human, the flower vase behind it faintly distorted... but you *feel* something was there. To my amazement, I didn't feel a bit scared... more curious. To my even greater amazement, I walked up the stairs after it. It retreated further into the upstairs hallway.

My friend and I went up to check it out. Went into his room... nothing. Then I caught a glimpse of it back in the hallway standing at the doorway. My friend didn't see it... we were leaving the room and he walked right into it. He didn't see the sucker but he sure felt it... he yelped and ran into the next room... yelling that his arm was covered in goosebumps. I was like, "Oh, cool! A cold spot!" and walked towards the entity to touch it, but it retreated again.

Before I left, I sat on the stairway and waited till I felt it again and started talking to it. You know... stuff like "It's time for you to move on. Your loved one's are waiting for you on the otherside. This isn't your place any more..."

The last time I spoke to that friend (I've since graduated and lost touch), he told me everything was just fine in the house. From what he could tell there was no more activity going on. My first ghost-busting job? :)
